Sihanookville or Snookeyville as it was affectionately known has changed drastically. It used to be a backpackers paradise but the Chinese bought loads of it and pulled down what was there and started building Hotels and Casinos then COVID hit and the Chinese pulled out so loads of the buildings aren't even finished so the Chinese tourists never came and now Western tourists don't go because it is messed up from what it was. Used to be a great place but now I think it has lost all respect for itself and the people are demoralised. You are better heading up the coast to Kep and/or Kampot which are both lovely. An influx of Chinese tourists threatened to ruin Kampot too but they built a huge resort in the hills away from town and they stay there rathger than heading in to the town so that remains the beautiful friendly place it always was
just thought id throw this out there about energy drinks. The original redbull was from somewhere in asia (probably thailand) and it was not carbonated. If you have tried M150 then you pretty much tried the original redbull.
I have lived in Sihanoukville since 2010 seen all the changes know the place well this guy rambles about Sihanoukville in a few minutes as if he knows the place and people will see this and believe him a load of bollocks
I’m not judging the people. Cambodian people are amazing and warm. This place has so much potential and could be a very cool beach city. But, they have let it go (mostly the Chinese who bought most of it) and it does smell bad. Was anything that I said a lie? Thank you so much for watching
I’m one of the most honest travel bloggers out here. I usually find the positives in every place I go. But this place was a disaster with so much potential
The beach gets dirty every night during night in wet season. Unfortunately 90% trash in sea is from Vietnam. If you go afternoon to beach, then it's cleaned. They usually clean around mid day. And as you notice, it's wet season. Not much tourist so like that beach bar is closed and it's gets dirty. If you come high season is much cleaner and nicer then. Also good to notice that Cambodia is very much developing country. You made some comparison to Columbia. Columbia ihas double the GDP per capita than Cambodia. Phnom Penh used to be filthy still 10 years ago. Now start to be okeyish in littering. Other Cambodian cities are catching up though.
We didn’t have time but I definitely will do it the next time. It’s a shame that the Chinese drove this town into the ground because they could make even more money if they cleaned it up
