In ancient times, Sikkim, the 22nd state of India, was not how it is now. Rather, it was known by different names by different tribes residing in the region. On the whole, it was more like a Greater Sikkim. Various tribes ruled different regions of Sikkim, of which Lepchas are considered to be the first ones, others being Limboos and Magars. All three are called the Original Inhabitants of Sikkim. After 1642, it was ruled by the Chogyals, the Tibetan Kings. But there is more to the history prior to 1642. In this exclusive story ‘Sikkim Before Chogyals’, The Cord analyses the ancient in-depth story of Sikkim.

Came here from a facebook post which mentioned only limbus. I am from sikkim only andnstay here in yuksom. The post sharer on fb questioned the credibility of this video, but I feel this is really great research by someone from the outer community. Even limbus themselves do not knw this much and I think other tribes as well. But ewta kura ho tyoh ke ho bhanay, this is history, which cant be hundred percent true. This channel has referred to some books which I have also read during my thesis, and it is completely fine to take sources. Many won't agree with it, many will. Aboh itihaas ko lagi ta tyahi samayma po pugnuh paryoh ta ushova testai credibility ra authenticity khojnu cha bhane. We read sources and then we are supposed to research more, these youtube videos can only give you a summary of the history but atleast they are giving which is commendable. Khoi tah hamro afnui limbu bhai baini haru le banauna video ani ustai ramro knowledge cha bhane ujjyagar garung. Galti nikalnu, galti bataunu sajilo huncha, kasaiko mehnat cha, kunai bahiri manche le hamro samaj ko kura dekhaunu nae thulo kura ho tara hamro ta kaam ni galti dekhaunay ho ra aghi bardieuna ta. They have done great work i feel and this should continue. Do we have anyone who raised such things over youtube or any other big platform before? No!! Moreover they are giving sources, not claiming anything of their own or changing history specially the history which some of our own community people think is true but reject everything else.

There is a difference between history, legend and myth. Any culture in the world has abundance of myths and legends which has often overshadowed the reality. Our region is no exception. The history as mentioned in the video may or may not be authentic yet the team has left no stone unturned to present us with something that has not been done before.

I'm a Limbu from Taplejung Nepal ,"Tamor "region that you mentioned in your video. This is one of the most relatable research video I have ever come across.think most of the evidence that supports your research about the limbu is true ,but don't know about other tripe. And another thing is that Limbu's never lost the war against Gurkha , instead they betreit us cleaverly >here Gurkhas those days were bhramins and chettriyas.they disobeyed the treaty b/wn . Limbu's and Gurkha.Rest all the evidence are really true.Even about the" mundhum" that you mentioned is very much true. You have a good research team great job.keep bringing us the truth about the history.

One thing, King Gaebo Achyok was betryed and assassinated at Dalim Garhi, Gorubathan area not at Damsang Garhi. Magars are definity the descandants of Genjhis khan. However, they eventually converted to Hinduism and mixed with Indo- Aryan tribues such as Khas and Tharus that lived in western middle and southern Nepal. Nowdays, Magars often look like Half Indians. The Sens on the other hand were Bengalis and had close connections with Khas, Madhesi and Newar tribes. During the time of the Sens, Kapalis, Mali, Malakar migrated from Bengal to Kathmandu valley.

Please don't call yourself Gorkhas/Nepalis, if you don't want to... nobody forces yourself to identify as one! I'm from the Rai community and we also have our own tribal language just like countless other Gorkha communities yet we are proud of our Gorkha heritage and this is what binds us together as one. Sikkim is Sikkim but Darjeeling/Kalimpong/Kurseong is Gorkhaland. We've always supported Sikkim but Sikkim doesn't support the people of Darjeeling and Nepal and always throwing dirt on everyone except themselves

Blood brotherhood could have been among limbus and Thapas too but it didn't this means that Lepchas were the native tribe of Sikkim. The Lepchas found bhotiyas Bhutias Tibetans as legitimate brothers however the blood brotherhood didn't last long. The peaceful pact by blood was to live smas brothers and sisters as one blood one kin by marriage and also loyalty.

Sikkim(Sukhim) was established as an independent nation inside from the lands of Limbuwan in 1642 A. D. Whoever published that map of sikkim in the background is wrong and misleading. I can show you original map of Limbuwan in 5 A. D. Limbuwan was never part of greater sikkim instead west sikkim region was once part of Limbuwan before Lho-Mehn-Tsong-sum Treaty in 1642 A. D. Yakthung Laaje (Limbuwan) was an independent nation formed around 5 A. D. when thibangsa (10 kings from tai orgin) declared the war and won the war against 8 old yakthung kings descendants of bhuiputhang dynasty (Not 8 kirati king). All the 10 kings decided to name their nation Limbuwan (Li : bow, Ambu : acquire) since the war was won with the help of bow and arrows. The thibangsa decided to divide and rule their land from Arun River to Teesta River (west sikkim) into thibong yolks (10 kingdoms). Whereas, Sikkim became an independent nation only in 1642 A. D. when Phuntsog Namgyal became chogyal (king) and sat on the throne of sikkim after the arrival of Bhutias from Tibet. Before the arrivals of Namgyal dynasty and Bhutias from Tibet, Sikkim was ruled by Lepcha tribal chiefs, Limbu tribal chiefs and Mangar tribal chiefs... As Lepcha (Rong) and Limbu ( Tshong : Limbu ) are the native inhabitants of sikkim. Lho-Mehn-Tsong Sum treaty was signed between 8 Bhutias tribal chiefs, 12 Limbu tribal chiefs and 4 Lepcha tribal chiefs in West sikkim in 1642 A. D. This peace treaty was signed between Bhutias, Lepcha and Limbu to not to attack against each other and these communities will be remain as one family. Limbuwan lose the west sikkim region because of this treaty and the new territory was set from Arun River in the west to Mechi river in the east. The original and older name of Sikkim in Limbu language is Chung jung Laaje. The term Sikkim was derived from chyogal Tensung Namgyal's Limbu Queen Thungwamukma (Limbu princess from yangwarok kingdom of Limbuwan) who named the new built Rabadentse palace as "Song-Khim~Su-khim" which means new place or new home which later on became the name of whole country as Sikkim. Present day, around 70% of original territory of Limbuwan is in Nepal where as around 30% of territory is in west sikkim region.

Ya many Nepali except common native of east nepal , sikkim came from Nepal but they came to Sikkim not to india. Their identity is sikkimese as subject of Sikkim before merge to india. Sikkim which was founded in 1642 by Tibbetan king consist of aborigin, Nepali origin , Tibbetan origin tribes as modern day sikkimese . Just like many bengali came from mithila, kannauj to bengal. Many rajasthani came to nepal , kumaon n became Nepali , kumaoni ksatriya. Half of west Nepali r kumaoni migrant n one third of kumaoni r west Nepali migrant. Many maithili , bengali came to assam n became assamese .it's not country to country but kingdom to kingdom migration. Which happened throughout indian sub continent from long ago . Nepal became country only in 1950 s n sikkim never became country before annexed to india in 1975. while so called Nepali in Sikkim were 70 pc right from 1891 census. Btw most bengali of north bengal r bangladeshi refugee ( hindu ). illegal bangladeshi ( muslim ) that is too migrated from UNO recognised country to UNO recognised country after 1947 n 1971. Which is called immigration.
