Tempo were not a manufacturer I was aware of before this badly repainted Siku Matador casting fell into my hands. Between 1924 and 1966, the Tempo name was attached to a series of light commercial vehicles, cars, and off-roaders. The Matador alongside it's three-wheeled counterpart the Hanseat were Tempo's most popular offerings. In fact, the Hanseat, Matador, and Wiking models were all licensed to be built overseas, including in the UK by Jensen Motors who sold the Jensen Tempo 1500. They were licensed in India, Spain, and Uruguay.
The Matador bears some resemblance to the Volkswagen Type 2, though the 1949 Matador that released the same year as the T1 looked quite different. It did however use a Volkswagen 1100cc engine until 1952. The 1955 redesign is what this casting is based on.
The Siku model was coloured in green between 1963 and 1969, but from 1966 it could be found in a cream to off-white colour complete with a plastic canoe fitted to the roof. These outlasted the green model, running until 1971 listed as V264 instead of V220.
As for my example, it used to be khaki green, but a previous owner had slathered orange paint across it, hitting the windows, wheels and base which incorporated the grille and bumpers. While not a perfect paint match, I am very pleased to have resurrected this and provided myself with an education simultaneously.

Another beautiful restoration. It’s a wonderful diversion to watch you work. I knew nothing about the tempo prototype at all. Many thanks …as always. 😊👍👍

What an unusual vehicle with a complicated history. I cannot imagine that there are many remaining.

in fact they are awfully rare these days. VW sold massive amounts of their bus/transporter, but most others aside Ford were smaller and had less capacity to produce a lot of vehicles despite demand, and then there is image. VW somehow managed to create a cult around the T2, with the Transit it was the people, but any other van or bus was just utility and thus, worked to death. once people realized those machines deserved being kept around it was like, too late. not that there were no items around, but nobody kept to spare parts, and you can't restore such a ride without essential spares... unless you're filthy rich.

Great work and the colour really suits it. I love a vintage Siku - this isn’t one I have been aware of before.

Interesting video At first I thought it was a VW bus, then I heard you tell the story about the company and the back story on your Die cast van. Great video

Great restoration Jason. The jewels that you used can be found at the Reject shop and most of those cheap dollar shops for around $2 All the best Cheers Michael

Hi Jason, As always a great restoration. Regarding the style of the Matador is looks like a mix of a VW and a Ford FK1000 Panorama bus, later call Ford Transit

nicely done. :) the green is a bit dark, but SIKU had used a similar colour in the past. great re-work! ^^ there is also a version that looks like a club-mobile, with blue tinted roof-windows and curtains engraved into the glass insert. all of them are hard to find complete, the door seems to break out easily. have I ever told you about the stainless steel rivets SIKU used for a while on some models?

No, I didn’t know about the stainless steel rivets

@@DieCastRestos little update, I managed to score both the standard bus and the luxury bus (without canoe alas) in a complete-except-headlights state at a flea market, and somehow plan on doing restomods with them. I have to look up colours first, though. :)
