I think there is room for improvement. You don't feel the fear in his voice when something comes at him, or when he sees something creepy. He doesn't turn his head when he hears a noise. These are things that make the game much more realistic, by making you feel the character's emotions.
I always beloved that the heart and soul of any horror game was always the Sound Design. Unnerving ambience, musical themes of dread and panic, and my personal favorite… *White noise in a isolated area, but you still think something’s out there with you*
2001 : We used fog and mist to lower the requirements and hide our limitations for the current hardware. 2024 : We made fog and mist so much stressful to the hardware that you will need two 4090 nvlinked to render and buffer it.
@@elOmegart In one of the original teaser trailers, they showed James looking up at the mirror, you know the first scene in the game, but the lighting was off and it looked a little jank. They fixed it here and it looks very close to the original, while still being new, it's much more polished.
@@Sneaky_racoon_sly that wasn't by design though.. it was to lower the draw distance so the game ran on consoles. oh and btw.. if you had played the OG's you would know its NOT fog.. its smoke, from the fires under the town.
That we can hear James’s staggered, disbelieving breath is an amazing new detail.. you can hear him always struggling to find his breath, or not breathe too loudly, or just.. remembering to breathe at all
@@ugandahater LOL New fans? I was there on original release date, what are you talking about…? God help you if your gaming experience is ruined by a RU-vid comment…
This mist effect is the best fog I've ever seen in a video game. It doesn't just occlude things behide, it "blurs" them, creating this unique vibe that fits SilentHill perfectly!
@@roninsharkey5140 I'm a indie game dev myself, so I focus more on visuals in games. When I heard that theya re remaking SH2, I was like hm, how are they gonna make the fog with all those next-gen power. I was worrying that they'would use standard depth fog effect and just make it thicker. Turned out they know what's important in this game. I'm so glad.
That mist effect is from 2008. There are games with actual volumetric fog that looks real not like this blob mess. It's also there to hide the ugly graphics and to get the game to run at more than 20fps
As a life long diehard Silent Hill fan, I think this looks fkn incredible and I cannot wait. Im hoping its extremely successful and they remake 1, 4, and my favorite SH3.
Cool additions so I agree! I plan on playing on the highest difficulty modes from the start just because I really enjoy having to manage items! Unlike the original it looks like it’ll be harder to just run past enemies like in the original! I hope this is the case because in the original I had a good amount of ammo by mid game so it would be nice especially on hardest modes to actually be mindful for how many enemies you shoot! I love the feeling like in Alien isolation nightmare mode where the player most really be careful with what you upgrade & how many times you do because you can end up very low on items & bullets really quick!
This looks pretty epic. I really hope the original Silent Hill game gets a graphical updated remake that looks this good. Imagine watching Lisa's transformation sequence remastered like this.
that aint happening any time soon you see there was this obscure ps4 game by konami that was suppose to tease silent hill 1 remake, which never got to production
Really this just seems like another horror game with the SH2 coating, it's rather underwhelming given the hype, although there were some very good stuffs compared to the original game, which however would always triumph in terms of originality.
I am one of the worlds biggest silent hill 2 fans. Played the original sooo many times. Talked many people into playing it. Bought and gave away copies. Listened to nearly every analysis video on RU-vid. Days worth of podcasts. Watched fan films. Looked at tonnes of fan art. Read fan fiction. I went to watch Akira Yamaoka play a live set of silent hill 2 soundtrack. I can go on and on about this. What I want to say is. I am very happy with what I’ve seen up to now. I’m not gonna watch one second more until I am playing it. I’m happy that they have changed enough that it’s still gonna be a new experience. Kept enough of the original. This has proven that bloober have made their own game. Wish everyone the best. Looking forward to playing this on October the 16th as that’s my birthday and I’ve booked 9 days off work. Also gives it a few days to get a patch or 2 in just incase.
Ha! You are like me! I used to take the full weekend of previous SH releases so I could spend all weekend playing it! Now I’m off the weekends so I shall be ready come 10/11/24 SH marathon weekend!!
Silent Hill 2 has been my favorite game ever since I first played it. It's devastating and frightening on a deep level that you really don't see in any works of art. This remake appears to respect everything that game did and looks like it's in good hands. Such a relief.
The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️
As a huge fan who played all Silent Hill games (1-4) I really like what I see…it is as I expected…I hope they make a remake of SH1, which, I think, had the best psycho-horror atmosphere…
This has been a wild ride, following the remake since its initial annoucment. But I have to say, Bloober Team has done an extraordinary job at listing to criticism while also sticking to the scorce material and enhancing it, making it better then ever before. Im truly, truly excited. I wish people would give this more of a chance to fully come out before harshly judging, but now, if anyone has any doubts? They are simply blinded by nostalgia. I've been a long term fan, and this remake looks like everything I'd want in a remake. It looks like so much time and care was put in. Yes, in the beginning, they had to find their footing with marketing and releasing any new content on the remake, but now, im beyond excited!
They're remained faithful to the original. This is the very definition of a remake. The rooms are exactly what I remember in the original, except it's in super high detail. The sounds, the movement all have the original DNA but more modern. I love what I'm seeing so far.
@@bondrewd4831 you don't have to hate it, I simply treat them as different games, no hate. but yeah back in the day the maybe had less budget also to record the actors saying so many lines
The graphics and atmosphere are great, but animations don't have weight to them, especially the walking and running animations, it feels like he's just floating around.
@@skepg3729 The swing of the melee weapon and the body animation is somewhat ok but the feel that he is actually hitting something is missing . I have been playing Callisto Protocol recently and that game has probably the best melee combat with a blunt weapon, i've ever experienced in a game.
I love the theme "Promise" at the end. Hopefully they keep the theme "True" as well; the one that plays in Room 302 when the video tape is played showing the truth
The impact of a single-cut scene about a ghostly presence, caring but manipulative, holding an unease pose while her shadowed eyes wander from James to a gloomy captivity space, only to hook-stare at the audience, and with a delayed, tone shifted voice: -- ''...I'm not your Mary!'' ...That is what's missing here.
Oh wow. I got shivers when Maria's monologue started. I think it's a very promising looking remake of SH2. I wish I had a device to run it on when it comes out. 😢
My God, look at that soundtrack! How can someone be so judgmental about graphics, but unable to appreciate that soundtrack? Shut up and take my money, Konami.
Accurate. As a child you see things much better than what they actually are. Look at some of the old movies you liked as a child. You'll be flabbergasted.
what deeply impresses me about this is the ample aspect of liminal space. if you were to remove james and only use the camera to move around, it captures the liminality splendidly.
Team Silent really tapped into something only the best psychological horror films was able to do when they created SH2! A very mature, dark, sad & beautifully nostalgic feeling for us who played the original growing up! I also think it’s a very relatable game especially if you have experienced the tragedy of loosing a significant other or anyone really! This game was a different level so it’s cool that new & older fans alike can experience it again on a modern game engine! The soundtrack is so melancholy & nostalgic gives me chills honestly!
They completely botched the Pyramid Head fight.... The room is spacious and easily allows you to run and loop PH without much effort or risk, the Great Sword doesn't one shot you, and him leaving through a door does not even remotely capture the ominous dread of seeing him walk down into the watery staircase, until he is out of sight, the water drains, and you have no choice but to follow him down.
Was gonna aay the same thing myself. Horrible fights in this play through all around. Shots wasted when not needed (short ammo supply),shooting pyramids big METAL helmet(doing nothing) when they could have flanked him being so slow and shot him in the back or melee him, passing up mutiple items or other areas where items could have been(although i do get the rushed play through to simply showcase the game without being to spoiling) but really.... c'mon man. Lol
Congrats, you've taken something with a truly original art direction and turned it into another blend horror action game, with the same lights, same render, same camera, same movements as all others, same world that seems fantasy where the original was so grounded in reality.
Silent Hill is the most toxic and divided fandom There are people who dig the idea and wanna get into it like me There are nitpickers who find any reason to be mad And there are people who have never played the game yet they think they know everything about it And at the least the people who think it's just grey resident evil
@@SHOEBILLMEMEZ Silent Hill 2 remake is a third person game, these animations are what we will be seeing 90% of the time, why not giving more attention to them? I'm a big fan of the Silent Hill franchise, and also a game developer and 3D artist, this is just some constructive feedback as I really like what they are creating here, as I said, they nailed the atmosphere and other aspects of the game.
Environments look really incredible. Running animation looks a bit off to me. To me the artistic nuance is missing a bit from what i’ve seen so far but i’ll still be getting this when it releases.
People were so apprehensive about Bloober helming this remake, but it really feels like they got this right in the ways that make the original such a visceral game. The internet’s pessimism had me convinced at first, but now I’m swayed. Preordered and excited.
So like MGS DELTA why aren't they using the F.O.X engine for the game? And why are they out sourcing it to no name no confidence studios that have no experience creating actual remake titles? These questions are at the forefront even before getting into the incredibly for "modern audiences" and obvious w*k messaging the game heaps upon the players.
havent looked into it, but i doubt konami has the number of developers needed to everything in house anymore, theve been backed away from producing aaa games for so long, those devs prob werent just hanging around getting paid to do nothing
@@InsertArgumentHere not like they are now however for full major titles. Its like they may have the game worked on in parts (GTA is like that for their partners) but like yucky modern capcom they are giving the keys completely to a outsource firm. these games look terrible.
@@simonhillancocacolathis trailer had my attention for this remake after the shitfest the previous trailers were. But make no mistake, Bloober is not a talented studio in any way, previous game were mediocre. Maybe with this remake they can show that with effort, it does not matter if you are talentless, but they have to put the effort to live up to SH2 name
I love how James sounds during combat, unskilled and scared, the detail of adding his nervous breathing to the silence around him is so good, my most anticipated game for this year.
They should have made Pyramid Head taller. I know he's 1:1 from the original. But he would have been more imposing if he was bigger, especially if he was moving at this speed.
maybe the reason Pyramid looked too small is because of the Third person POV, the fact you are over-the-shoulder with James overtaking the space of the screen more. But man, they could've taken some liberties at least and made Pyramid's model at least a little taller for that(?). Everything else looks really superb and nice, but I wish Pyramid Head's stuff could've been done better (especially due to his importance)
20 Years ago i played it 🙂 I loved it ! Well the health Drink does not so health any more especially after 20 years 🤣😂 Same as always. Nice that you can enter Building very easy. Looks great. Nice remake 👍
That music and sound design are phenomenal, not just a recreation from the original game but an actual upgrade. I was skeptical about this remake, but they seem to have done a solid job.
I’m looking forward to this. I never grew up with this game and consider that it’s very hard to get - I’m genuinely looking forward to playing it for the first time
This, what i actually saw in 45 min of gameplay of Silent Hill 2 Remake is a perfection... for me, an old gamer, i played all first four Silent Hill till SH4 The Room, Konami make us happy, and made an remake of 3 and 4 we desereved IT this is..... the best
I love that the game is getting new graphics and stuff but i personally think that they should have tried to recreate the old voices, as an example the first sentences from Marry just dont feel right. The old one was a masterpiece and just so iconic there is no need to change that
Now it looks so much better, and you've fixed a lot of things! However, I’d suggest improving some of the enemy textures. Also, the screen effect when you're injured can be a bit annoying with that red border. And one last thing-does the bat come out of his pocket? Haha, you might want to reconsider that!
The red border with the cross cutout is a roundabout way of displaying a red cross in the corner that the PC version had. Something you can no longer do in games as the National Red Cross prevents it.
voice actors killing it, music is ON POINT, really wishing this isn't just the perfect fishy fanservice trailer and that the game is actually of that quality level
It’s just a remake but I would argue that youngsters nowadays who grow up with tripe A game, should definitely play this. Let the old SH be SH. For me, it’s part of a memory in me that I will never forget. Btw try not to enjoy killing these monsters as they can affect the ending. I got in the water anyways
I am beyond excited now! Bloober has done an incredible job recreating that special SH 'vibe'. It may not expand much on the original in terms of gameplay, but the fact I get to play this puppy again with updated graphics (and acting) makes me giddy as hell.
Something I really appreciate is that they're also giving early access to those who pre-order the deluxe version. I haven't seen any other company do this. Only for RU-vidrs who promote the game.
It's so weird to have that third person normal camera instead of the old cinematic one with changing angles, not sure which would provide a better experience
I have issue with the camera shake during hits. It's a bit too much. Otherwise it looks good and the fog is awesome. Looking forward to playing it myself!
They honestly reshot the first two scenes of Pyramid Head "killing" monsters in a sexual way? Am I sincerely afraid that a lot of things that made it strange and reinforced the disturbing and sexual aspect, to sterilize the game and make it more "family friendly"? yeah, really.
Looks MUCH better than I thought. Thank God. But still, a few things like, the pacing seems to fast, animations from running walking too abrupt etc. I still stand by the idea that if this was given to Remedy it'd have been perfect.
This is one of the first game I played in my PS2. I loved it. I cannot wait to play it again after almost 24 years. I would love to see a remake of the first Silent Hill. The era of Silent Hill and Resident Evil set a precedent for horror survival games.
