Was Silent Hill 2 the best survival horror game ever?
The Silent Hill 2 remake will be developed by Bloober Team, thanks to their reputation within the horror genre growing rapidly, developing games like Layers of Fear, Blair Witch and The Medium. They are the chosen ones - anointed to resuscitate and reinvigorate the beloved Silent Hill 2 and I’m so excited to see how they handle stepping up to the horror genre big leagues and resurrecting an all time classic.
Silent Hill 2 is the pinnacle of the Silent Hill series, but was Silent Hill 2 the pinnacle of the entire survival horror genre?

Ah silent hill, what a good memory. I still remember theres one time in silent hill 3, when i solved one weird puzzle in the otherworld really quickly, i started to wonder is my mind getting more twisted becuz it made so much sense yet it shouldnt

The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️

I still have a copy of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the PS2 in my "I'm going to get around to playing it any day now..." pile.

The first games I ever played on the PS2 (after trying them on a demo disc back in 2002/3)) were Silent Hill 2, ICO, Ratchet & Clank and Jak And Daxter .... and as you can probably imagine, games have been an utter disappointment ever since! (apart from a couple of titles like Half-Life, Portal, Resident Evil, Metroid, Zelda etc )

I played 3 before 2 but number 2 is the greatest Silent Hill game in the franchise, the greatest survival horror game and the best videogame I ever played. Unfortunately my mother in her naivity donated my PS2, SH2 directors cut and the SH collection on ps2 to a charity shop thinkijg they were 'old rubbish' that still hurts..
