@@WTF3585 It means to be charged in criminal court for a crime, typically one over something stupid or petty (i.e. “some bullshit”). For Jared, who grew up an orphan and state ward, he’s saying he’s not afraid of the justice system, since the justice system more or less raised him.
Basically “I have lived my whole life being tested by mother fuckers and if you think you can fuck with me because I won’t do anything well let me show you I don’t give a fuck about winding up in jail because I’ve been through worse for less” lol
@@thegruesometwosome2831 so, first off, Jared (real name Donald, but too reserved and submissive to correct his coworkers) usually presents as painfully meek, reserved, and polite, but here and elsewhere we see the darkness of his past break through. He was abandoned by his parents and raised in the foster system (thus “State raised”) and he’s saying he’s not afraid to get arrested over an assault with a “deadly(?)” weapon charge or “catch a case on some bullshit?!”, as you would DEFINITELY not expect a character like Jared to put it.
Mmm... I disagree. Jared was supportive and giving as long as he could be. Richard never looked out for Jared the way Jared looked out for Richard. Like even here, you can tell that Richard knew all the things that had been upsetting Jared at Pied Piper, but did nothing about it until Richard needed him again. It's never about actual loyalty (Except in tiny bursts). For Richard, it's about getting what he wants.
I love this scene, cemented Jared as my favourite character. He’s literally the only character in the show that represents a decent human who’s still flawed like everyone else, but tries harder than the others.
A take on Jared's character that I really liked was that he is basically the human version of a dog, he's incredibly loyal, loving and protective of whoever he works for or who could be "his owner", hence why he goes ape shit when someone attacks or disrespects Richard trying to defend him like a dog would, the main objective of his character is to protect people who can't protect themselves like Richard against Gavin Belson in season 1, which is why when Richard became a successful and independent CEO he felt like he wasn't needed anymore so he chose to stay with someone that could depend on him
😂......for a month, my mind was f ed, how could that be possible, if he never learnt German....... And for past 2 yrs, im Speaking Mandarin in my sleep, mom told me
I’m glad somebody else remembered this too. Russ could sense right away that there was something different about Jared, that he was the true engine behind Pied Piper and not someone to be trifled with. Turns out he was dead on.
I love that during his freak out all of his dialog is clearly a prison flashback. "Check in" for example means "run to the guards and beg for protection as you fear for your life."
I love the fact that when Jared gets mad it's justified. He's thoughtful even in what he allows himself to get angry about and this really paints a character who overcame hardship through maintaining self control and hope in humanity. When he gets mad It's always over values, but when it happens it's intense. He's the most sane insane guy, and that makes him so relatable and real. Every weird thing about him just makes perfect psychological sense. The writers of this show are brilliant.
"I oughta knock your teeth out, you bitch-made motherfucker!" Jared sounded legitimately menacing. Richard had that coming - Jared was the most compassionate and supportive person in his life. Yet how many times have we seen Richard treat Jared like he was a disposable nuisance? I just wish Jared had done it sooner. And well done to the writers of Silicon Valley, who spent six seasons alluding to Jared's terrible childhood for it to culminate in this scene. Jared will forever be my favorite character from this show.
@@MikeH7186 I had never commented before, and honestly never read comments prior. I didn't know if they allowed cursing. Hopefully you'll be happy to see that I corrected it. (I realize this is a very late response...I just finished re-watching the show and wanted to watch this scene again cuz it's perfection.)
"You want to dance on the blacktop homie?" is possibly the greatest throw away barely heard line in TV history. It's so authentic. I can absolutely see a prison fight breaking out with that line on the yard. Just adds believability to Jared's backstory about his previous life where he had to be some ruthless animal to survive and yet he never lost his innocence lol
@@KevinRhoads Everyone is brave when they feel safe, some people are just too stupid to realize they're in danger, and some people are too insecure to realize they're safe.
I don’t see it as a shame at all Richard deserved it. Jared was unwaveringly loyal and Richard repeatedly abused his friendship and then straw that finally made Jared snap was when Richard became verbally abusive towards Gwart whom Richard and had never met and knew nothing about as a person. It showed even more depth about Jared’s moral character and more clues in to his backstory. It played out perfectly and i think this was one of the most well acted scenes in the whole series
I think this show is hilarious but it’s hard to make me laugh out loud. Normally I just chuckle at the jokes. When this happened? I literally was slapping my knees and bending over laughing. I absolutely lost my shit when Jared kicked through the bathroom door 🤣
@@HAPPYSLAPS1 "Oxycontin" It's a prescribed medication in the US I'm guessing. Meaning that it's legal but strictly controlled, it has to be prescribed by a doctor. At least that's what I gauged from watching American TV
@@regal_7877 American here. It's basically medicinal heroin. Some doctors here like to just throw pills at patients to try to solve their "problems". I still can't believe they experimented on me with different ADHD meds when I was in elementary school. "This kid, like every other kid, doesn't seem focused in school, let's throw pills at him."
Dude, this scene so brilliant; they had me at “you think I’m scared to catch a case on some bullshit?!” I was dying at “peckerwood motherfucker” & actually died when Jared’s foot broke through the bathroom door. I couldn’t even enjoy “wanna dance on the blacktop homie?!” because I was dead. I’m writing this a ghost because of this scene.
@@wampaisen thanks bro. It's a great show. I can't watch it, because if I watch it, and compare it to my job of explaining idiots how to use Excel, how to print document, for years or end, I become increasingly violent and angry
I think absolutely passionate with a complicated childhood is a far better description. Insane implies he is illogical or capable of great harm or something.
Can we talk about how manipulative Richard is 😭 this is the second time he weaponized Jared’s feelings against him by mentioning moving his office back to being closer to him. And Jared’s face says that he knows that’s what’s happening. I feel so bad for Jared 😭😭
I sometimes wonder if anyone is teaching this show in business school. As hilarious and over-the-top as the satire gets, it really seems at times to be well grounded in the challenges and relationship dynamics that real business face. People, people you rent money from, people who must work together but don’t really like each other, competition, technical glitches, business ethics. It’s always 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. Real Sisyphean business launch drama packaged with superb comedic writing.
I discovered the show in one of my software development classes. My teacher would show clips of it in class to help us understand concepts like Agile/Scrum methodologies and SWOT analysis. I think maybe he was just using that as an excuse to watch some clips of his favourite show haha.
it cant be overstated how, even loving this show and knowing damn well the genius of jared, just how underprepared I was for this little payoff scene. holy jesus.
Jared is the only character I even liked by the end of the series. I'd love to see a spin-off of him and Garrett. His lore goes from being haunted by a German Ghost to being raised by the streets and possibly being a pimp.
I feel so bad for Jared . He is so soft to other co workers yet they behave very rudely with him and do not give him the appreciation he deserves . Infact i kinda knew that Jared will someday lose his shit over Richard. Edit: Thanks for over a 100 likes . Thanks a lot this is my first time that my comment got over 100 likes.
it's partly Jared's fault. He left a big company for Richard's team, then despite being treated like you said, stuck with the team anyway. Could've left any time.
@@Antonin1738 I kind of agree with you but I Don't think he was given any importance in hooli either , and he saw a great potential in Richard's algorithm , and cmon let's face it as compared to hooli Jared has a big role in handling all the finance and corporate plan in PiedPiper , no one knows shit about those things except that guy .
@@nelldavila3261 Yeah man i know 😅 , I get emotional with characters i don't know why xD. I almost cried in the theatre when Joker was being beaten and thrashed for no reason by some alley kids .
@@hrishikeshh.shinde5097 State-raised means raised in the foster system, or something similar. So not in a loving home with parents. "Catch a case" means get booked for a crime, so he's not afraid to risk going to jail for what he may do to Richard.
Oh my god! Jared can be ABSOLUTELY terrifying when he wants to be. Damn. It's probably all that pent up anger from his childhood abuse. Richard got what was coming to him. Once the most loyal and kind person you know explodes 🌋 you know you've gone way to far. 🙊😲🙀
Richard should have evaluated doing an acqui-hire of Gwart's company contingent on shifting Jared's role. This scene highlights Richard's weakness in interpersonal matters, specifically, attracting and recruiting competent professionals of integrity. Jared was basically a gift of a starting card.
@@gundome12 Nope. He dropped by the incubator and told Richard he'd like to be a part of PP. Richard CALLED JRED AND ASKED JARED FOR HELP after Peter got on Richard at that infamous initial meeting. Jared NEVER ONCE begged Richard for a job. Nice try though!
