A tip: pour thin stream, off to the side of your sculpture, allowing the rubber to slowly fill the voids while pushing out the air. You risk air bubbles being trapped the way you showed. Hope this helps.
YES!!!! Let the silicone do the work! Also, if you’re making a very detailed cast, you need to try to pour the silicone right away, even with a long working time the silicone will begin to thicken within minutes. If your cast is really, really detailed, it’s also a good idea to brush some silicone on the object before pouring to make sure every detail is coated and it also helps prevent small bubbles around fine details.
Thank you for making this video. I recently bought some Mold Star product and you gave some great information here that I had not even thought of. Now I can't wait to make some molds :)
Omg, I have seen so many videos on how to make them and by far yours Its the one Im sticking to. Thank you so much for the teaching and being so clear. ❤Ive been afraid to learn but now I want to asap 🤣😩😅🌹🌹 Thanks again. ❤
I’ve seen other videos were ppl had to cut down the side of the mold to get them out and but rubber bands on them when making more. Seems to work fine from there videos
thankyou - very informative. Now sure why the others thought that the important bits were off camera? Maybe while you were unmoulding and trimmimg it would have been good to watch rather than sit and wait. The relevant information was all there though. If you see one mould on your table you see it all :-)
Great molds! Epoxy is glue. Epoxy Resin is two part resin but it is resin not epoxy. Calling it epoxy is confusing to new people. One student kept watching someone on RU-vid and that person kept calling her creme brulee torch a blowtorch. That student ordered a blowtorch from Amazon. Not only was it $200 it was also 5 ft long and threw a 6-inch flame 15 ft.. Thank you for teaching and using the proper names for tools and product! Oh I almost forgot.. 15 minutes is not a lot of time. Make sure that everything is ready to go before mixing the silicone. Great heart mold!
How do I find silicone with a certain color or change the color? So let's say I want to make a heart that's red or pink or yellow. How can I change the color? Thanks.
Yes, sorry the Buddha took me for ever to figure out how to take it out. It was my first time making that type of mold. But yes I eventually took him out of the mold. Had to keep squeezing the bottom of the mold until he popped out. I didn’t want to cut the mold.
@@sweetcfmermaids1790 I’m thinking that it would be very difficult to get your Buhdah out of that mold. Could you use something very sharp to cut the mold down the center to make a front and back? I’ve been interested in making a mold similar to this but I haven’t because I’m not sure how it would work.
Hello, I was thinking of doing the cuts as you have suggested but I think if I do that you would see the cut lines on the finished piece. I have been able to figure out how to take the Buddha out of the mold with the squeeze method from top to bottom and it works. It’s still takes a bit to do it for me since I don’t have much strength on my hands.
Hello! Thank you for watching! Yes the clear pieces are acrylic blanks we design our own with a computer software as in Corel draw or even silhouette business edition and cut them with the Glowforge laser machine
I have a dessert candle group. All of our mold suppliers closed due to a shortage of materials. This video helped me so much!!! I was intimidated until I found you 🥰. I’m going to buy these supplies . Someone said I need dragon skin for this?? I will get what you have
Thank you for watching! So happy my video was helpful 🤗 if you are making mold for candles Dragons skin it’s a more softer silicone mold and it’s perfect for candle embeds. I recommend dragons skin 10NV. You can use the same process as in the video just a different silicone. You can also purchase it from smooth on . If you have any questions please let me know 😉
Use Legos! You can reuse Legos and make infinite sizes with them if you get enough bases plus they provide the added benefit of having the ability to key two or more sections of a mold. Just use a bit of release agent on the Legos to make removing the molds easy. You can also get sculpting clay to use in place of hot glue. It’s reusable also. The issue with everyone using cheap plastic is obviously pollution. Using these items costs more initially but is SO much cheaper and better for everyone if you do use them.
Thank you for making this video but next time I think you should add the video so we're not going to be waiting couple minutes until you finish what are you doing or take the Buddha out of that silicone form
The only way you can ensure you get Zero bubbles is to use an air vacuum system or at the least, agitate the table and cup. I have never done molding, hence my watching molding type videos such as yours. On full figures I would think the recommended course of action would be to poor the mold on half of the figurine then allow to cure. Then once’s cured, turn it over and mold the second part with an opening. The opening will be used to poor your epoxy or whatever your choice of median is to form your new figurine. Thank you for posting.
TIP# you can use an electric toothbrush to vibrate any bubbles out or sit on something that Vibrates :) 😲🤦♂️ support it _|____|__ under 1st FOR other moulds use gyclerin(alcohol) based and gelatine + water mix look it up cheap warm on stove stir to mix over a low heat🔥 Amounts ratio = 4grms gelatine to 24mm glycerine + 20mm water👍 🚽 🌵 🎤 🪓 🐹 mould anything for body parts hands etc buy that powder dentist use $ 1kg $13 ?
Thank you for watching! The container is cut due to the need of using a sticky paper in order to hold your molding piece in place as well as to make sure your mold has a flat and good surface once completed.
Great video. I made mine but the shape I was making a mold of lifted up and it was just a waist. I used cricket transfer paper. What would you suggest to do different?
Thank you for watching! ☺️ oh no that has happened to me a few times 🤦🏻♀️ I have learned that if your molding piece it’s not heavy enough it would float. Best thing to do is use a dab of hot glue just enough to hold your piece in place. Make sure you don’t use to much glue where your piece would rises up then you end up with to much extra silicone material around the bottom of your piece. I use duck closet linen clear contact paper I purchase from Walmart.
Could you just use bowls with a flat bottom so that you don’t have to glue down or use the contact paper and they be smoother? Or just pour it in the bowl and set the acrylic pieces into the top? Just curious if there’s is a better reason to do it this way.
Thank you for watching! The reason for the contact paper is for it to hold your acrylic piece or what ever means your using down. If not your piece would float to the top. And same if you pour then put your piece on top it will sink in.
The molds are reusable for a long while as long as they are very well taken cared off, make sure you don’t clean the molds with alcohol, don’t use toothpick to bust the air bubbles, give it to much heat with a heat gun or use a torch. Molds can be clean with regular soap and water and a soft rag. That will preserved the life of your mold.
H&B V. Yes that’s very true I don’t think it be Walmart themselves Walmart.com they’re like Amazon they have multiple traders they have multiple sellers. The list goes on. It sucks because a lot of people think that it’s Walmart that’s selling this that stuff and it’s overpriced if you look at the distributor in or the shipper or the company that it’s listed under it will tell you if it’s Walmart or a different company Walmart.com is a lot like Amazon except you got a wait 2 weeks to get your stuff or longer. I would just stick with an arts and craft store or if you have antique shops or glassblowing shops they have some of those things there but mainly you’ll just find them in arts and craft stores I have seen them in Walmart but all Walmarts are different I’ve got 3 to choose from and only 1 of them has them Are usually out of stock
TC3N1 Art Amber D-Mason this Walmart here both isn’t worthy they have nothing I mean none of the crafty items just the stuff I don’t need so I have to wait but online usually be reasonable
You can make a mold of anything that’s non porous. Search Etsy and Instagram for acrylic blanks, there are TONS of makers that create these, with cool designs and art etched into the blanks.
Thank you for watching! The reason to remove the lids and bottom off the container is so the contact paper can be used that’s paper makes sure your acrylic piece doesn’t float back to the top and it also creates a smooth mold surface.
Thank you so much for this video! There is something I wanted to make a mold of, but I can’t find it made in acrylic. Can you make a mold with wooden or silicone items?
Hello, out of wood yes you can make mold do be aware it won’t be a glossy mold, I would also suggest to use a mold release. You can’t use a silicone piece as silicone would adhere to the silicone.
I made a plaster model of my moms hand before she passed away in March. How do I replicate it? with a silicone mold ? I don't want to destroy my original cast of my moms hand. Please advise me. 🙏 please 🙏
Use more flexible silicone and make ur first mold on smaller items, don’t make the mold too thick for easier demolding when you finally work on your precious hand cast.
Hello! Thank you for watching 😊 our condolences to you and your family. In regards to the mold I would start by replicating the plaster mold with a molding putty or polymer clay just make sure the product you use is sulfur free. Once you have replicated the mold then use that to make your mold. The reason for my advise to replicate is because I don’t want you plaster mold to get ruined, Plaster is sensitive to water and I’m not sure how it would react to the wet silicone.
Where did you get the initial shapes from to make the mold.? You show the scrub shirt... where/how did you get that from? What if I want to create a mold of things I love
ka white hello, the initial piece is a cut out acrylic piece. We cut our own pieces with a laser. Yes the possibility are so great into creating your own molds , you can use anything to replicate as a mold as long as it’s has a hard surface.
Hello! Thank you for watching what makes a shiny silicone it’s the actual piece you use for example; if you use a piece of wood to make your mold design that mold would be none shiny unless you treat the wood with sanding and spraying with a high gloss spray. Now if you use a piece that it’s already shiny or an acrylic piece your mold will be shiny.
Love this tutorial! I gotta buy me one of your scrub shirts in that color or pink ! It will be for my daughter Lisa. Crazy about your designs. Will contact you later this month. Thank you for sharing !
What tools do I definitely need when going into making moulds? Is this something you can leave to set on its own or do you need equipment to make it set?
Hello thank you fir watching. You would need everything that you see in this video. The only item I would add that made my mold much better is a vacuum chamber.
Hello! Thank you for watching. Yes you can definitely make a mold out of the business card. I would suggest to use a release agent just to be sure it won’t get attached to the silicone.
No worries 😉 the release agent is a spray that you will spray your molding piece with very lightly it would prevent you piece to stick to the silicone.
What is the thickness of the bottom of your mold? In other words, how much silicone do you pour above the object you are using to make your mold? Also, how deep does your mold need to be so the resin doesn’t bend?
I make my molds at least 1.5 inches thick. If you are using 1/4 or 1/8 acrylics blanks to make your molds the 1.5 it’s a good thickness for your molds. The mold will be pretty solid and heavy.
Hello, thank you for watching. I am not sure if the lino sheet would be compatible with the silicone. My suggestion is to do a test with something very small. Come back and let us know the results 😃
There are three rules that I have learned about using silicone so far. Do not mix in anything like a paper cup. Keep away from anything with Sulphur in it and that one made me think what has Sulphur in it because I am allergic. Never mix with a wooden spoon or stick but you did. I was waiting to see what would happen and nothing did. Now I wonder what happens, they said to use a plastic knife or long plastic spoon. Does it make the mold wear out faster? I need them to tell me why. Thank you.🌷
With mixing resin, wooden stir sticks create bubbles bc they’re porous, possibly the same reason? Prob why no paper cup, also. And it shouldn’t *really* have to be said, and you prob know, but for others reading this, don’t use silicone cups or stir sticks to mix silicone.
One more question I poured a mold and ran out of silicone mixture I let it cure but I need to order more mixture am I able to top of the mold when the new stuff arrives or will have have to start over
I have brushed a little bit of silicone on top of some molds I had made before due to wrinkles and it worked. If you haven’t taken it out of the housing and it’s for your personal used it would be worth the try.
Good morning, could you tell me how I can get the price, how I can sell each silicone mold that I manufacture, because I just started manufacturing but I don't know how I can sell them, I don't know how I can charge them, could you help me to decide How can I sell them? Thank you very much, I use the same silicone, only that I use silicone # 16 and you use silicone # 15 but they have the same cost I imagine, thank you very much I hope your answer has a nice and beautiful day .
Hello the best method for me to price my mold is I divide the cost of the silicone per the ounces. Then you times the number of each of your molds times 3. 32OZ*37.00=$1.15X5OZ=$5.75X3=$17.25 32OZ amount of silicone purchased $37.00 cost of silicone purchased $1.15 total amount cost of each oz of silicone 5Oz amount of silicone used to make a mold $5.75 is the total cost of Oz used to make the mold X3 is your cost of silicone, materials and time $17.25 is your selling amount of your mold best to always round your numbers meaning don’t sell at $17.25 round to $18.00 even. Hope that formula helps 😉
Thank you for the video. I tried doing the molds from an acrylic blank and they worked by then when I poured epoxy into the molds and demolded it the piece looked scratched or like it had hairs on it. I did the scrubs like you had, even wiped them down before pouring silicone on them but I noticed your pieces had smudges on them so what did I do wrong. You didn't mention anything about cleaning the pieces before pouring the silicone over them so that couldn't have been the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Yes best thing to do is wipe your acrylic piece with a microfiber towel I get mines at dollar tree. Put your piece toward the light to see if there are any pieces of hairs and re-wipe. Definitely do not use paper towels on acrylic since that would scratch them.
