Josh, this is really nice. There is no other format like this that describes the race as you do. Love the detail and description with the bits of video and pictures. The use of maps and commentary is great, I could watch this stuff all day.

Josh, this is a great update. If you have a way to make the sound in the video clips softer and your voice-over louder, it would be easier to hear you over the road noise from the videos.

Humble suggestion - reduce or mute the volume on the amazing go-pro video so we can hear what you're saying. Incredible shots and insights.

Really great format! Really interesting to get your insight on the race, interspersed with actual footage. My only comment would be that it was sometimes difficult to hear your narration over the wind on the race footage.

Josh, your Race Report, which included gorgeous videos of the spectacular scenery, was AWESOME! Really well done. With that said, it would have been even more entertaining & exciting had you stayed closer to the top guys in the race. So, next time, please try and bridge the gaps and get up there so you can get videos of the race leaders! :) Oh yeah, and either lay off the squeaky brakes on the descents or swap out your pads bro! Seriously though, it was a super entertaining race report that I’d love to see more of. Really well done Josh!

I would have loved to be up with the leaders!! And yea the brakes did my head in too! Used sintered pads which was an error as they just got hit and squeaked on the long descents

Really enjoyed this concept, looking forwards to any more you do in the future! I'd also be interested in a bit of background on your own cycling, when you started and then progressing into endurance events, that type of thing!

If I am not mistaken. the valley after the Ara-bal plateau and pass is actually named the Burkhan valley. Great video by the way, was unable to really follow the race as I was riding it myself so this is an excellent post-factum alternative!

Hey Josh. Massive congratulations on your ride! Followed it all and was amazed by the sheer scale of the place and event. Truly awe-inspiring. When you hike-a-bike do you ever use a harness and if so any recommendations?
@joshibbett
@joshibbett 11 месяцев назад
I actually bought a restrap hike a bike harness before Silk Road and tested it in training,. It worked well but eventually I decided not to use it for Silk Road as there wasn't really a need to carry the bike... more just push it.

I like the actual footage in between the analysis,. I like this analysis more than the footage video because of the context. I love the tracker, I love the ridewithgps and POI's... just the noise...

Thank you for sharing this Josh, On that really long part with no re supply till Naryn, how did it go for water along there? How much did you carry and did it run out?
@joshibbett
@joshibbett 10 месяцев назад
Water is never really too much of an issue providing you have plenty of chlorine tablets or a filter. I never carried more than 2.5l and when I was getting low topped up at the first opportunity to do so

Yes, like this format. I 'm an avid dot watcher , and with the addition of spectacular scenery it is very enjoyable to watch ! You seem to be very resilient, which gave you such a good finishing place. It must be very hard to keep healthy when the body is going through so much stress. How did you avoid becoming ill? Was it expert planning ,getting enough sleep? Eating enough? I would be interested to know , as even the best riders ,such as Lael Wilcox and Justinas got ill.

Well I got quite sick a few days before the race started but thankfully it cleared up before the start. So probably more luck than judgement!

Really good stuff, but as others have said, your comentary was difficult to hear over the wind noise, brake squeals and gravel sounds in the clips. 10/10 otherwise.

I was glued to the tracker the whole way. What an exciting race and congratulations on your superb result Josh! The SRMR is, for me, one of those mythical events I can only experience vicariously through athletes like yourself. Than you for fueling those fantasies so fully. 🫶🏻
