I have two silkies (Joanna and Kaylee) and honestly, they are the best pets I've ever owned! Both are so gentle and even respond to their names when called. The only issue is the broodiness. Joanna gets particularly stubborn when she's broody to the point that she will sit underneath the nest box all day (since I keep the coop closed throughout the day and let the girls roam freely around the backyard during the day.) She refuses to leave her spot even if it's raining or really hot and sometimes I worry that she will harm herself in the process. But apart from the broodiness, I couldn't imagine owning any other breed of chicken after having silkies. They really are such wonderful and adorable little "fur babies!"

Satins are better. But I admit I am grateful for the beards and calmness and decreased egg laying they will contribute as well as the broody abilities even if they don't have real feathers that I love poor things.

We had silkies when i was a kid. 20 hens layed enough eggs for us, and we eat eggs every day. When we moved we had to give them away and we alwys regretted it. They're ridiculously easy to manage, and their eggs are great

Enjoyed the video very much, thanks! One thing tho, silkies are just fine with any other bantam breeds.

I am going to keep my two that I just bought with my severely cross beaked Americana hen who is three and can maintain order, a on the smaller side polish pullet who is about two months older and an olive egger pullet from the same breeder. Izzy my cross beak gets mad at anyone's who fights and goes after the perpetrator. So I don't think the new three month old olive egger will have time to bug silkies with Izzy and my blue polish pullet Shiloh keeping her busy.

My 5 month old silkie roo was attacking my 8 week old Brahma and polish chicks. They are the same size. Had to put silkie out to free range. I got Guinea fowl to sound the alarm, the turkeys are the muscle. Lol

I bought 5 Silkie Chicks, and it appears at 7 wks, 3 are Roosters. One Lil Fella got the Wry Neck, so we gave Supplement of Vitamins with amped up Vit E, and Lil one is back integrated with the other 4, and doing Super! We Love them, but they'll need to be outside very shortly....got one of those Small Chicken/Rabbit Houses w/Run attached (quite cheaply made, but got it from a friend), and with some reinforcement, it should work great! They Like it so far.....I just want them "closer" to us....inside would be great, but alas, I simply can't see an animal having to wear Diapers....sigh Love Love your Video!!!

Silkie is a brood clutch layer , they lay about 8 to 12 eggs in 2 weeks or so and then go broody and they do this year round , so it depends on if she stays broody or broods a clutch ,but if you try you can get 6 to 8 clutches or so a year BUT never THREE eggs a week ,but we k ow you mean average, Lovely video ❤

I have chickens and ducks together. I added some guineas and only one survived. I have thought about adding silkies but now I realize that it would be best to keep silkies separate. Maybe next spring?

I would vote to keep them separate. Ducks are a lot stronger than chickens so I think there would be potential for injury. I had a duck kill a slow guinea in one chop. It was a one time incident but it was surprising
