SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE CELEB INTERVIEWS! Emmy-Winner Jake Hamilton talks with Rebecca Ferguson about her new AppleTV+ series SILO, her thoughts on DUNE: PART II and working with Tom Cruise on the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE films.
I really appreciated her in Dune. She takes a much different approach from the books, but I think it played perfectly with all the other actors and their approaches to their respective characters.
Well yes, she did have ideas for the character but at the end of the day Denis, the director, made the final decisions as to what kind of Jessica he wants for his adaptation of Dune. And then Rebecca acted them out the way he directed her. Clearly he was satisfied with the results otherwise they would have shot the scenes again
As an autistic I really like that she mentioned autism when it comes to Jules, because I have never seen a more clearly autistic, yet normalized and respected character than her. I see so much of myself and my friends in Jules, right down to the little jerks and psyching herself up before making eye contact. It soooooo wonderfully done! And I'm really looking forward (currently on ep 5) to seeing how she adapts. Because, at least some of us, *can* adapt to a certain extent, if people meet us where we're at and are willing to explain the hidden rules like Bernnard & co seem to be doing for her (even if it is for their own agenda). It will just cost enormous energy and the stress/frustration will build and at some point need a release.
It's quite amazing how much Christopher McQuarrie can pretty much make up his Mission Impossible films as they go along[Simon Pegg said they started filming Fallout with only 30mins worth of script] yet they still work
Not sure I have commented on your page before, but your questions are consistently fantastic. And when you're talking to intelligent, thoughtful actors (as Ferguson clearly is) they make for a great, entertaining interview. Well done.
Ugh I just love Rebecca - she is perfection💖 I'm very excited for this series. And what a coincidence it premieres on my birthday!😁👌🏻 But I'm most excited for summer to be here and finally see Mission7
Jake my guy, I don't watch all of your videos but any time I do I am consistently impressed by how interesting your questions are, and they give us interesting answers too! Good stuff!
The hardest part about wrapping your head around Dune is it's not a movie. It's literally a character story the entire time. There is so little exposition. Dune is better presented as an exercise of reading around a table. I think it is one of those stories that cannot be made into film because trying loses the essence of the writing. What are you going to do? 2 hours of inner monologue losing 95% of the scathing genius of the characters? It would take hours and hours of screen time just to get one character satisfactorily fleshed out. As good as the LOTR trilogy was, it barely cuts the surface of what Tolkien was trying to get across even in the 12 hours of the extended cut. There is a whole iceberg of depth in the literature untold largely because it would be insane to try. Harry Potter yeah, can be a series of films. Hunger Games, sure. That was clearly written to be adapted into films. Not Dune. Not even close.
I'm sure more than a few will disagree but how could Dune 2 not be better than Dune? I didn't think Dune was all that. Technically proficient, no doubt, but strangely un-engaging.
