For Americans who have discovered this gem and need a little help: Parvati has been in love with her childhood crush (Devdas) her entire life and when she learns that he’s returning to town, it reminds her that the candle she holds for him burns brighter than ever before. The choreography, songwriting, and concepts are cinematic marvels used to tell a tragic love story, which lets the audience know that not even the pouring rain could ever oust the fire that burns for her love.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the director, one of the best directors remaining in Bollywood, he is the director of Ram leela, Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Gangubai Kathiawadi, etc...
I agree. She also did amazingly well in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Guzaarish. Apparently when sanjay first met her, he realised she was the perfect person to play Nandini in HDDCS. Like the very first song in the beginning of the movie, she had a mixture of “fire, water and earth, which God had mixed to create this being”.
As a Bengali this is very proud moment...devdas wrote by Sarat Chandra chattopadhyay how beautifully they create this and that voice Shreya Ghoshal... ufff bong beauty ❤️
Aishwarya Rai screen presence with shreya ghosal vocal.. wow what a combo..this song is the best example of classic... nothing and no one can and will beat this forever..
@@shreyaghoshaludhayasgian Shreya was 14 when she won Sa re ga ma pa in 1998. Devdas was released in 2002. But she recorded her songs for the film in 2000 and 2001. She was 16 or 17 when she recorded this song.
Aishwarya rai is not only most beautiful women in the world But most beautiful ever in history Nobody was beautiful as her in past, present, and no one will be in future
a girl and a boy (Paro and Devdas)were childhood bestfriends, They were separated when the boy was sent abroad with a relative by his family. Girl(Paro) couldn't tolerate the separation from her beloved bestie, and burnt a 'diya' (candle) as a symbol of 'trust on her love' that would come back to her one day. She cared for the 'diya' so heartedly and kept on oiling it again and again. Her love for 'Devdas' didn't let the 'diya' extinguish even a single time(which indeed made impossible, possible ). After years passed the childhood friendship grew into intense love which was visible flourishing in the flame of diya itself. Her friends and other girls around joyfully tried to blow off the flame of 'diya' but all attempts were unsuccessful. Even the storm and heavy rains could not blow off the flame of her love. At the end of this video song it is shown that 'Paro is getting excited', since the flame of diya sparkles a lot and she understands that her love is coming back. Also, at the end of the movie, when 'Devdas' dies, the flame Diya also extinguishes.
This song's Choreography and Camera work is rightfully a case study for Film school students. The Indian-ness entrenched in every second of frame is totally awesome. That is why many foreigners are in comments praising this artwork. Indian film makers should realise that the world want to see "Indian" dance sequences not our actors dancing in some bizarre eccentric western dance moves. Yes we are not producing such aesthetically beautiful songs in last ten years, but i m optimistic about our future film makers. Cheers!!!
My love of Bollywood movies died with Dhoom... that was the last movie that I watched and enjoyed and I was in love with Bollywood movies... after that the decline was fast till I haven't watched one in 12 years.
Don’t be xenophobic and call others’ culture as bizarre, just because it’s different than yours… No culture, western or eastern, is better than others…
I have absolutely no idea what is going on here but I do know that this lady is one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen ❤️ The song too is gorgeous! I can’t stop listening ❤️
She is waiting for her childhood sweetheart to return after completing his graduation... Meanwhile she lit this diya wishing him to come back ASAP. In the movie, this 'diya' is metaphorically related to his life (Entire song is about this diya and her waiting)
@@KritiSaini thank you so much for your reply! I found the movie and watched it a few days ago and I absolutely loved it ☺️ everything from the story to the songs to the dancing and the costumes was so beautiful 😍 This was my first Bollywood movie but it definitely won’t be my last! I’m officially a fan! Before Devdas the only movies even remotely close that I’d seen were Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire. I’m now currently searching for more! Do you have any good recommendations? Thank you again for your explanation ☺️❤️🏴
@@leighirvine you can watch bajirao mastani, ram leela, hum dil de chuke sanam, padmaavat these all films are made by same director hence you will see lots of aesthetic and great story and his march 2022 latest film gangubaai kathiawadi which is also biopic like his most films
Im an 80s kid, my Bollywood fever and dreams ended with movies such as this - Indian music, Indian costume, Indian dance, Indian women, Indian man, Indian religions, Indian culture, Indian languages, Indian cuisines, Indian art, Indian everything. Whatever left in the industry is filth (politics, dirty money, paid media, terror fundings etc)
The weather has pandiculated The rain has come all over again A gust of wind will come And this lamp will extinguish The connection of our love I haven't let it extinguish ... oh o o The connection of our love I haven't let it extinguish Oh my beloved, this lamp Hasn't extinguished and nor will it The lamp of my love My beloved come to me now My beloved come to me now Along with this lamp is burning My whole body and my heart Now come to me my beloved My beloved come to me now There was a distance and separation There was a distance and separation There was an ambience of detachment My eyes were waiting and You were there, you were there, you were there Shining, sparkling And roaming with total joy And here I was burning And here I was burning The clouds thundered again It was thundering and raining There was a storm going on But still it couldn't extinguish you Oh my beloved, this lamp No matter how much this rain This wind and this lightning bothers you My beloved come to me now My beloved come to me now Look at this crazy girl She is unaware of the world A gust of wind will come And will bring her beloved along My beloved come to me now The connection of our love I didn't let it extinguish from my heart Oh my beloved, this lamp Hey beloved, beloved, beloved

Я сама смотрю индийские фильмы с 2006 года. То есть с самого детства и сейчас благодаря клубу романтики, многие люди начали узнавать такие индийские шедевры как Девдас.
Why can't Bollywood make more songs like these? Why is there so much vulgarity, disgusting lyrics, and absolutely no sense in today's songs.... What a fall... What a tragic fall... From such a class and elegance to total disgrace..😢

Still, the magic and charm of this song are shining like a diamond. No doubt shreya and aishwarya are amazing. But also hats off to the composer like how he has arranged backing vocals and classical instruments with perfection.
The fact that she made an oath that the 🪔 will not unlighten untill devdas is alive and it does till the end when devdas died..... Makes this song more fascinating and giving goosebumps to the viewers. AMAZING WORK!!
Nityagnihotra is the term which is used to refer to people who always have a Lamp that doesn't extinguish throughout their life time. This fire will be used to lit their burial pit after one's death. Drutharastra dies from forest fire that comes out of his Lamp. After Dasaratha dies his body was burned the fire was lit from his Lamp. It is not just a concept but was a beautiful culture that is lost in time however a few traditional brahmins do follow it to these days but it is unknown to most.

Why does this bring tears to my eyes. I'm a 21 year old boy with no romantic interest (as of now) but these 5 mins resonate so well that I can't just avoid feeling the moment.
Many times I fall asleep after playing songs with my headphones. One afternoon the same thing happened but suddenly I woke up when the voice *Silsila yeh chahat ka na mane bujne dia aaa.....* comes around my ears. In that half asleep moment the voice of Shreya Ghosal filled me into different world. What a divine voice😌💖.
@@Jimisha95 She is saying that 20 years ago this movie was out and this is Shreya Ghosal's first film. So, Shreya is 20 years old in the film industry. It's not about her age but how long she is in the industry. But she was indeed 16 when she sang this.
I havent found any actress look more beautiful than aishwarya in this song...actually the whole movie. This movie was fairytale made real. And shreya goshals voice ❤️
