Old comment I know, but I always notice how calm Chael stayed in that whole situation. That’s probably why that line came off like that because he was fairly certain Silva wasn’t able to think about his movements properly because he was so emotional.
“I can’t let you get close” sounds like when you’ve finally charged up your super move and your fight character has to say a cool catchphrase before he delivers it 😂
Wahahahaha, yes, exactly. Street Fighter Five super moves (like Zangief) come immediately to mind for me. He possibly even included an additional line during his super at 2:38 as others have mentioned, sounds like he says either "fucking amateur" or "fucking bitch" or possibly nothing. Great stuff bud!
@@limabeemer3447I'm sorry is Dana the accountant? Or is he the fighters manager who negotiated the deal? You know the deal that the fighters team agreed to fight for I'm alittle confused here? You think Dana sits in a pool of gold coins holding the fighters money lol? He is a employee with a set annual salary he isn't head of accounting u guys just have a gigantic case of follow the leader😂 u just repeat what u see other ppl say & act as if u have a clue what's going on or how it works lol
It's called professionalism... Maybe your parents didn't raise u the right way but mine did & I don't see how being a professional fighter would change the fact that u are a grown man who is responsible for being mature enough to handle his or her emotions 🤷♂️
"Call it the Wanderlei show. Call it what you think it is stupid!" To say that to Wanderlei Silva while he's standing a few feet away from you and don't even flinch while he's coming close to you full of rage is a real gangster move. How was Chael ever able to make 185 with such humongous balls?
@@chefcox5552 Exactly. This is one of the toughest areas to grow up in. I mean, some people dont even make 100k per year and can just afford a nanny for 2 days per week. No wonder this tough environment shaped Chael into the gangster he is.
You know Chaels a real gangster when he can look at an angry Wanderlei Silva and laugh. That’s honestly one of the scariest lookin dudes on the planet, and he just looked right through him. Straight savage
Wanderlai actually answered this question recently in a podcast. My Portuguese is a little rusty so bare with me, he said “Everybody thinks my issue with Mr. Chael is due to what he said about Brazilians, and yes that is partly the case, however it goes deeper than that. When I was younger I did not receive much love or connection from friends and relatives. Everyone was afraid of getting close to me. This hurt me deep and I initially started Muay Thai as I saw the clinch as a way of getting close to people. I had my issues with Chael before the show ,however, I made the decision to forgive and finally have physical contact with him in the form of a hug, even exclaiming to him that I “wannanow”. It was at this point I heard Mr. Chael state “I can’t let you get close” which tore me up inside as it made me have flashbacks to my traumatic childhood. It was at this point I responded to this rejection with violence.”
2:31 The thing that blows me away every single time I watch this is just how quick Chael's reaction time is. A true professional MMA fighter can see the subtle changes in someone's gaze and posture when they are about to commit to a real attack. He watched Silva for a few seconds and then when he saw that change he instantly knew the real fight had started.
He should have been kicked off, it was great that Dana did and I would kicked him off the show 10 times over and banned him from MMA for life. The dude is a fucking coward for hitting Chael from behind while he is on the ground with Wanderlei. That is an extreme bitch move. Funny how he didn't have that same energy when Chael could see him coming though
I think this clip is valuable as a self defence knowledge. Like you can be a great grappler, jiu jitsu etc, you saved yourself from 1st opponent by taking him down and still you're getting punched by some random srcubs from the crowd.
I still laugh so hard at this. Not only does Chael say his "but I can't let you get close" line, he then proceeds to put Wanderlei on his back in flip flops.
“I had the fight with Anderson Silva, did you see it?” “Ya” “it didn’t go so well for me… that was a pretty rough night”😂😂 the way chael delivers all his words is great
One of the most legendary moments on the planet earths history recorded on camera right here. “I can’t let you get close” gets me everytime.. Chael is a GOAT.
I liked it when Chael talks about the kids playing in the dirt like little retards. That was Wanderlais childhood. Was so satisfying when Chael smashed him in the octagon.
The thing is, I just tossed this to my big brother *today* - I don't believe he was watching this stuff back then. I had to give him the back story. But that night it was televised, was it still on SPIKE or FOX? I was thinking SPIKE. But when this infamous scene went down, you could actually hear what Chael said as he was driving Silva's ass into the concrete - "F'nggg Amateur!" My Dad called me after that happened and said something like "did he say what I think he said?" I told him yes. For some reason, 'they' either knowingly or unknowingly did a little "something something" to that audio at the moment of the take down. But I can still hear it, just not as clearly as the night it happened. Maybe someone can clear this up a bit.
Lmao the guy that got kicked off the show was the same dude holding up the shirt after the fight saying "im taking this home its worth gold to punch that guy is priceless" meanwhile that punch costed him his whole potential career and tv show exposure 😄
Yeah, It's because in Chael's mind, all Wandy had to do was play his role, be the babyface. Chael was prepared to do all the heavy promotional lifting and be the heel, take the hate and they'd solve it in the cage.
@@FedericoB1891 this is fake though slow the punch down and you can see it's just a slap so it's clearly planned and then when chapel gets the takedown all the strikes miss the heads almost deliberately
it feels so sad to see these ABSOLUTE beasts lacking so much confidence..... How can you be able to kill mostly anyone on this planet with your bare hands, have all the spotlights on you and STILL have to prove shits.
@@Weedmate420 isn't it relative though? Besides, chael is hyping up the show and Wanderlei already put his hands on him. He's right, he can't let Silva get too close. Chael has a schtick and backing down or appologizing doesn't fit into his character he's built his career on.
I don’t respect Costa for being a whiny little steroid taking diva coming up with excuses after he loses and trying to out weigh his opponents by 800lbs
Imagine if Chael hadn't ducked for that takedown at the perfect time... That would've been the hardest slap anybody has ever seen, never realized how gigantic Wandy's hands are for a man his size.
He looks genuinely upset, I wonder if that coming off like animals thing really gets to him considering he has to rub shoulders with suits all the time he probably doesn't like feeling like hes a carnival promoter.
As long as it isn't someone big time he will normally do the right thing. Had it been Conor..."you better leave for tonight. Tonight? Get the hell out of here! Be back tomorrow tho."
Sonnen did nothing wrong. Silva bullied him and went into sonnens space. Sonnen had every right to defend himslef. He also warned silva multiple times not to do it but because silva was acting like a bully he didn't listen
@nabil libre Doesn't matter if it's polite you don't attack him for it, wait till fight night. I could almost understand if they weren't professional fighters scheduled to fight each other already. He can fight him and even get paid; he just has to wait till fight night.
@nabil libre I'm pretty sure the fight was already scheduled at this time; however it is possible I am mistaken. If the fight isn't already scheduled; ask Dana for the fight.
the icing on this is Wand was so butthurt about Chael's trashtalks meanwhile Anderson, who is the actual target of said trashtalk was all cool with it lmao
Funny thing is Silva is actually an incredibly gregarious and nice guy in person. I don't know if it is because he is older or not but I was hitting his gym up for about a year in Vegas and the guy was awesome. Complimentary and funny. Chael really is the king of getting people to lose their mind. Gotta love it
Im sure Silva is a very nice guy. Chael insulted his country and yet he still just asked him to apologize and be over with it. Its when Sonnen refused and started trash talking that Silva lost his shit lol
Well sure lots of these guys are cool dudes but they have fuedes. Like I trained with cyborg the bjj guy who got dq ed versus gordan ryan - the nicest freaking guy, all these young broke dudes ( like me) trained for free at his workd class gym, great dude. Pro fighters fued with each other some times lol
Chael saying "I can't let you get close", sounds like something a character from a game would say before doing the special moves or last skill perhaps.
Larone, PLEASE do a whole Silva-Sonnen video. Going back to their interactions at pressers, expos, in the car! This experience on TUF & their fight in Bellator!
"His falseness is what irritates me." It's called baiting a weakness. Chael used easy trolling to make his opponent worry about his emotions. You worry. You lose.
@@smolsnek3835 lol how fast do you think you'd shit yourself if that dude could put his hands on you?, or find out how undeveloped your heart is if you had to tell him that to his face. His country may be in what ever state but as long as he is him you well never tell that man that shit. Welcome to safe space(yt).
