Good info, Blackie. I would add what I call a boo boo kit. It contains a few bandaids, antibiotic ointment, etc.

Great video Blackie, keep them coming! I carry toilet paper in my kit as essential. I have back issues, three herniated disks, so weight is a concern and most importantly for me weight distribution. I use a small backpack to carry my gear and I over analyze everything I take, still my load out is between 15 to 19 pounds with food; flashlight, first aid kit, cordage, pencil/paper, compass, 10x10 shelter, light hammock, mess kit, 2x qrt water canteens, fire kit, Leatherman multi tool, knife, small 22 pistol,, sometimes small alcohol stove or sterno can if I overnight. Did I mention toilet paper, this way I come back home with my socks.

I like it when you empty the haversack on Bear's picnic table as spaghetti. 😆 Peace. We all get tangled up sometimes. It's my greatest enemy. I bet my local Cherokee and Susquehannock were all tangled up in leather straps several hundred years ago. Being a Silver Warrior isn't that easy these days.

Thanks for the video Blackie. I've never used haversacks but I want to try it. It was kind of confusing of what exactly to put in one and not overstuff it. I have a Polish bread bag and Finnish gas mask bag, they are more in my price range right now and I've been trying to figure out what I want to put in them. 👍

frankly i like a little depth in my haversacks (about an inch wide band between the front and back panel!) so you've got a digging room when you go to get something on the bottom! i'd add a piece of plastic (a cheap dollar store drop cloth or a garbage bag!) for when it's wet and you have to string up the 5x7 so you're not sitting in the mud and wet!

Blackie I keep some hooks , line, and sinkers in my fire kit, I'll always find a place to catch fish I can't resist. Also I'm planing a survival challenge weekend in the Atchafalaya basin, on an island, just what you can bring in a haversack will be an experience for most just putting that out there if you or others want to come.

mr blackie, where can we see a schedule for your outdoor gatherings and pathfinders or any other gatherings like this for outdoor people. Would like to come and learn some from the old timers and meet you. I think I saw before you would be at a gathering in bama in march but I can't find that video anymore. Also when is blackbird combo coming for release....definitely would like one of those.

Better too big than too small. I carry a Condor messenger bag, it's bigger than my haversack but not so big that I don't want to carry it. I appreciate the extra space in case I need to add more food or gear.

Great advice but I have a question about differet bags/sacks whats the difference between this and a bugout bag?
@davesanders9203
@davesanders9203 Год назад
About the same as the difference between a mountain bike and fully loaded F150 Both will get you to your destination.
@The_Channel_Of_Chad
@The_Channel_Of_Chad Год назад
There are various takes on what to put in a bag for a given purpose. A BOB or bugout bag is what you use to get the heck out of dodge and get to your bugout location (relative's house, plot of land far enough away, Lord forbid a FEMA camp, etc.) There's also a get home bag which usually consists of what you need to get home from your usual haunts without the aid of a car; an overnight bag which is a backpack or ruck sack with all the essentials and a few comfort items for a weekend campout/hike; a day bag which is more inline with what Blackie describes in this video. I'm sure there are a bunch of other types of bags out there, the main difference will be the contents of the bag and the situation they are designed to help you meet. Peace and chicken grease ✌🏻&🍗

What kind of weight do folks have in their Haversacks? Mines a Helikon Tex Haversack and running about 6lbs, after a couple hours I can really tell it's there in the shoulder.
@linedwell
@linedwell Год назад
@@maxpinson5002 i think you're right. I think I'm going to empty it all out and see what I'm actually carrying in it.. I put things in there, little things, but 10 little things weight adds up I suppose.
@fernandomartinez3484

15 to 18 pounds; two quarts of water in mil canteens, minimal cooking gear, fire kit, light hammock, 10x10 shelter, food, cordage, flashlight, compass, knife, first aid, pencil/paper, toilet paper, Leatherman multi tool w/ saw, small 22 pistol. I've tried using haversack but with any kind of weight to one side of my body it agrevates my back injuries, so a small backpack works best for me.
