We all had books containing a walkthrough of our builds in the 90s for IASCA comps. It's like car audio went through a few decades long Dark Age and is only now slowly recovering.

I was too young to own a car in the 90s but I sure as heck went to all the car meets in my local town. Everyone was in a car club back in the 90s. Lowriders, SQ builds, Hydraulics comps, etc.. Bought my first set of Orion 12'' subs before even owning a car in the early 2000s. That's where it all started.

From what I have seen the books need to be better designed. Guys are great with 3D design and sound but their graphic design skills are lacking. I would be happy to offer my services so that book doesn't look like it came from the 90s too. lol

Arc audio is a beast I might give them the nod on my build in my truck, man but I hate to give up on the sound of my soundstream continuum amplifiers and class A 10.2 sub amplifiers. I guess 20+ years been long enough but they still sound great um especially with the dsp. Man I wish I had there time and install knowledge it makes music more fun to have it look right and tuned right
@bbfoto7248
@bbfoto7248 3 года назад
There's nothing wrong with your subwoofers or amplifiers if they sound great and are still performing to spec, so no reason to change them. The biggest difference in the quality of sound will be the quality of the front 2-way or 3-way speakers and the quality of their installation, along with a good DSP and proper tuning. So maybe just upgrade to the Arc RS-series components, especially if you already have a decent DSP. As Dean said, even when mounted in the factory locations in Brian's truck, the RS speakers sound excellent with the mid-tier Arc DSP/amplifier. You can usually find someone in your area to help you tune your system by asking on the various Online car audio forums (DIYMA & C.A.J.) and the Facebook SQ groups, or Instagram. I'll just advise that you have to be REALLY careful and selective when deciding to pay a shop to tune your system because VERY FEW are *truly knowledgeable* when it comes to PROPER system tuning. Make an appointment and demand to hear one of the car stereo systems that they have installed and tuned before making a commitment to pay them to tune your system. If at least one of the shop employees doesn't have a system with a DSP that they are willing to let you listen to, I would look elsewhere. Side Note: This is one reason that I think that Dean should really take the time and make a commitment to install and tune a good system in his new Mustang ASAP. Fernando's car is an option for Demos, but his system is constantly changing as it's their "Car Stereo Lab" and as such it is never in an optimized or finished state. Also ask the "tuner" at the shop if they use a software RTA program such as *REW* (Room EQ Wizard) and a Calibrated measurement mic to properly tune the DSP. Or at least the AudioControl DM-RTA and its measurement microphone. If they give you a bewildered look and don't know what either of those are, or if say that they don't make a difference, I would advise you to go elsewhere. Only if they are a seasoned IASCA or MECA SQ Competitor such as Jeff Smith would I trust them to set up and tune your DSP with their ears alone. During the Demo of the system that the shop has tuned, the vocals and instruments should sound NATURAL and realistic, and the system should provide a Wide and High Soundstage with the main vocals centered below the rearview mirror and the instruments spread across and above the dash from Left to Right with distinct separation. Their should be no distortion even at fairly loud levels, and little if any panel rattles or resonances. The complete elimination of rattles and resonances throughout the vehicle can be difficult to achieve without extensive sound deadening treatment, but these will definitely be detrimental to the overall sound quality, soundstage, and your overall listening experience. The stereo system should also provide "Up-front Bass" so that bass guitars or synthesized bass lines and kickdrum hits should only appear to come from above the dash and in front of you, just like the rest of the music, (even if the subwoofer(s) are behind you). There's one track I always like to play to judge a system. That is *Dissidents* by *Thomas Dolby* from his Remastered (in 2009) ablum, *The Flat Earth* This track has just about everything I need to hear to evaluate the quality of a system and how well the DSP has been tuned. It has a tight, impactful bass/kick drum that should be up front & center, a driving slap-bass guitar line, and centered vocals with lots of other background and effects vocals, a typewriter machine and many other various instruments, synthesizers, and effects that are spread out all across and deep and wide in the soundstage. If you can attend a SQ Competition in your general region, do it! Nearly all of the competitors are willing to give you a quick demo if you ask nicely and if they aren't waiting for the judge to come listen & evaluate their vehicle. At least one of the competitors will also usually know someone experienced and reputable in your area to refer you to that can tune your system.

I grew up in 209 and have had Arc in many of my purchases. So in the truck how were the speakers and subs wired from that one amp? I remember him saying to put more power to the mids but maybe didn't do that in this case.

What's your take between the rs or the black series arc audio speakers
@bbfoto7248
@bbfoto7248 3 года назад
They are both great and perform according to their respective price points and tiers in the lineup. Personally, I think there are better drivers for less money compared to the Black series, which are slightly modified *SB Acoustics SB17 & SB29* speakers of which the equivalents can be purchased from the OEM for far less money. But the Arc RS series are among the best of the best for the money, as is clear from Brian's success in SQ competitions when using them.
