I am just discovering this band and I’m obsessed. Literally reading and watching everything I can get my hands on. Daniel fascinates me and I wished I had known about them and seen them live. The concert footage has just blown me away. Beyond talented. I most of all hope the boys are all doing well and are happy today in 2022.
I just recently became obsessed too! Here I am catching up on all the old videos, lol I also adore Daniel so much! Really kicking myself for losing track of them back in the day, I only liked 1 or 2 songs and had NO idea how amazing they were!
This actually happens alot with new fans. I grew up with SC music, but it wasn't till recently that i dove into the bands history, i wouldn't say fascinating, the story is just interesting, especially after reading Chris and Bens book, they explain so much about themselves. They talk about what happened at certain shows, it makes you run to RU-vid to bring up that exact show, it almost makes you feel like you were there. They talk about when they noticed Dan looking frail because of his secret anorexia, you look up shows around that time, and you can actually see he did look differently. Great book
I love how at 20, the kid says, "If you're in a relatively high profile position, you should take advantage of it to help people...". He's a month older than me... That's really cool. >M
Again Daniel showing his thoughtful nature....not wanting to ask David Helfgott to play live so he doesn’t feel bad about saying no. Also risking public scrutiny by opening up about his eating disorder in an attempt to help others. Yes gorgeous he is but not just a pretty face he draws you in with his honesty and sensitivity - then and now 😻
thevudoodoll I’ve had to rewatch the video to,y’know-actually LISTEN to what it’s about because the first couple attempts were thwarted by being mesmerized by Daniels stunning beauty-brain shuts down BAM!
As Asian, I was so really young back then, n I'm really trying hard to be like them, it was cool to like just able to catch on their type of music, cos there are just very few kids knew them. I'm lucky I'm not that average kinda kid type.( musical speaking) this interviews still shakes me and amaze me, it's just sad. Time easily went by.
Da fuq are you going on about? "As Asian... it was cool to like just able to catch on their type of music... I'm lucky I'm not that average kinda kid type... Time easily went by..." 🤯
lol, it seems that Daniel like to uses his t-shirts for a long time too. He uses this same one on the Dissociatives dvd released in 2004 (check the second half of the show and you'll see it).
So much thanks for uploading this!! Finally an interview I haven't seen. I love these guys-- and both the interviewer and camera-person did a fantastic job.
+Amelia Q I dig your profile pic. Rudy Rocks! I was lucky enough to see Silverchair live at the HOB twice in Myrtle Beach. Both were really amazing. The first was Neon Ballroom tour and later Young Modern. Silverchair's so awesome live. Especially at The House of Blues were it's more of an intimate setting. I love The House of Blues.
Thanks! Silverchair seems like they'd be great live, but I've never seen them. Coincidentally, my fave show ever was also at HOB, when I saw Jonny Lang. :)
Daniel Johns......I so love him during this era. Gorgeous beyond yet seemingly unaware of it. Still clinging to those teen angst feelings of self doubt. I hate to say it,because I know he is the same person, but his persona currently is just off putting. Drug addled,premiscous-dabbling in of all things Rap music. Maybe it's just a phase as they say.
i mean to be fair if that’s what he enjoys (his branching out into other genres and exploring different ways to express his personality) who is anyone else to judge that lol.
I think you'll find the word is promiscuous, well at least that's the closest your word came to but on that note, your comment on that subject besides having nothing to do with this interview but is bl@@dy irrelevant.
Danielle Watson Well my sincere gratitude for the spelling lesson. I've been dyslexic my entire life -I am a stickler for proper grammar and spelling, however, my dyslexia daily confounds my intent to those things on point. It's extremely more of a conundrum with numbers. I see and write them out of order, backwards-long links of numbers, like a credit card number, phone numbers, simple (to the average eye) an address-Like "213 Maple st" -I would see and copy as "312 Maple". Peace 🦋
bri lmao Bri, I hear that explanation constantly-and I agree he and every individual has the right to follow their passion. I'm arm chair analyzing here, but Daniel has I innately natural talent. His best work was when he followed his own instincts-but a break occurred -not just with the band-but with how driven and confident he was when he tuned out the noise -that of following the wrong advice. His collaborations have been train wrecks. Bad management, mediocre (at best) output -and he seemingly reversed his thoughts of being "commercially viable ". With the right team-the right producer, abandoning the "yes men" and having the gumption to listen to brutal honesty within this team-this could be the spark that ignites his own prodigal nature. Still time. As for Silverchair? Doubtful of any long term plans-but I could definitely foresee a limited reunion tour. All or most of Silverchair's contemporaries, Pearl Jam, chili peppers, foo fighters!!! Still out there playing festivals and auditoriums, to sold out crowds. If he absolutely has a need to collaborate -I'd say someone like Jack White, at least drift away from Australia to explore -you know-the artist considered to be the visionary of techno/electronic music....Gary Numan, came out of nowhere around 1979(coincidentally the year all 3 SC members were born) he was massive. But by late 80's /early 90's,his career had hit a wall. Than, in the mid 90's, his career was staggeringly reinvigorated, when Trent Reznor/NIN -whom considers Gary as his greatest influence that led to his obsession with electronic music-took him on tour. Instant stratospheric success. Gary's also a favorite of mine -Still now making music. 60 and singing better than ever-boyishly still handsome and exuberant on stage. Check out "Are friends Electric" "Metal" & "Down in the Park" ( covered by many including Marilyn Manson you'll be hooked. Final word: IF Silverchair decided to do -say a reunion tour-suffice to say -Australia would collectively lose their shit 😆 lol. Take care & stay safe Brie. Peace 🦋
