I love this band on a level deeper than just appreciation of music. I've ran literally thousands of miles in solitude while listening to their other albums. In particular, the bulk of that mileage was while listening to Swoon. This is my first time hearing this, and to be honest, I think it's better. Some others have said it sounds like it belongs on Swoon, and I agree.
MrJosh6889, if you've listened to them for awhile and appreciate all they've done from the beginning as it seems you've had plenty of time to do. Yes, this steps up and challenges your reality of what you think they can create :).... She sways over to me, yeah.....That's hard....
hottake This is the last truly flawless release they've made. Their albums after this are overall good with some less good tracks, but every track on here is sublime just like Caravanas and Swoon.
This is great. I used to be pretty obsessive about SSPU, and went to their early gigs pretty religiously. After Swoon I never quite found the time for their albums, but this is particularly good. Thanks for sharing.
THESE GUYS JUST CAN'T WRITE A BAD SONG!! NOT EVEN ONCE?! WTF?! Even the greatest bands have a couple of songs where you just wanna hit skip. Yet, I've listened to Carnavas, Neck of the Woods, Swoon and now this EP and I've yet to find a song I didn't love and wasn't absolutely captivated by! WTF?!!!!
excaliboah :c It's their bass player Nikki, she sings backing vocals on almost every song and does some lead vocal parts in songs like Little Lovers So Polite, It's Nice to know you work alone, and Kissing Families
excaliboah :c she sings lead on the track "Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)" off of better nature which is probably my favorite track off that album/there newest release. IMO she's way underutilized.
HOW were you able to post this?? Ive been trying to buy digital copies of this album specifically the track Ribbons and Detours for MONTHS and cant find it anywhere to purchase its driving me insane :(
No they didn't retire they legit released 2 albums before Widows Weeds. They just take their time making the album's. 2-3 years or so in between because of the constant tourings as well.
@@Frip36 it's art. Just be glad you get to witness it and stop crying. We're overdue for a sspu release, and yet I smile and wait while spinning this awesome shit right here lol chillout bro
My god. This little EP is 32x better than Neck of The Woods and Better Nature combined. You can definitely tell it was from their prime era. I wish they would stop with the way overproduced hipster garbage (excuse my French), and go back to writing more musically sound/thoughtful/rememberable songs. I miss the original dirty/moody guitar sounds, the catchy solos, the real sounding drums (you know, the good old fashion ones you actually play, not the pluggin kind used on a DAW in post. Cough), and when every song wasn't profusely bleeding from annoying experimental synth and pages of other unnecessary/unwanted pluggins. I really love this EP. Now let me go back to realizing that it's over. :,(
+Matt Rucker Matt, your opinion is respected, but all of their albums are equally great to me. They all have the SSP stamp on them and are exactly what the band intended to write, record, and mix. I respect their Artistic approach to each piece they produce.
+Matt Rucker I agree to a point with you, I thought Neck of The Woods(as a whole) was not very good and sounded generic. Better nature, however, I think was worlds better than Neck of The Woods and was much more creative yet still had that SSP feel. Their best albums were definitely their originals.
+ftffighter I can agree with that. BN had more thought behind it, but both recent albums sounded overproduced and unnatural to the indierock band vibe the group had originally. It's mostly pluggins and vocals now essentially. As a guitarist, you admired the work behind the instruments heavily from the first albums. It sounded so full of thought and organic to my ears. The last two albums sounded like a more mainstream producer was far too present in the mixes.
Well fuck lol, you have a good point actually, their new albums have been more electronic than before... and they have drifted towards that stuck up indie vibe which I hate. Nikki kept them in line I think before but once the money came in they said fuck it and took it. I miss the old natural sound they produced too. Its ironic that their new album is called better nature when they used less instruments and more electronica.
+Matt Rucker I saw them live on the better nature tour. It was amazing, open your mind, bands change directions so just go with the flow! On first listen I wasn't a massive fan of better nature but after a few listens through it holds up to anything in their collection imo.
