The presence of Silvia Perez Cruz at Tiny Desk heralds two things: The maturity of this special program, and the rightful recognition of one of the greatest singers alive in our world and of our generation. Thanks for your enduring and always endearing musical voyages, uncovering so much lovely music -- and love -- to the world. My sincerest gratitude and congrats, folks!
Silvia is so important culturally. Sensational actor and musician, it is no wonder she won an award for the greatest contribution to Spanish culture in 2022. The point is, as a composer, she enlarges the home in which she lives, making essential aesthetic adjustments to its values and humanity, new and rediscovered truths posited on beauty. She sits among an astonishingly rich Iberian Renaissance of folk music, especially centred on Barcelona. Her music is scooped up and lives in other versions. Only yesterday I was enjoying a marvellous version by Marina Morles of La Flor also on youtube. Silvia the performer graces her culture. Silvia the composer carries it into a sweeter tomorrow.
What a lovely way to describe Silvia and her essential contribution. And speaking of poets, you must be a writer or a poet yourself, fliprim. Or perhaps both. Genuinely pleasant to read your beautiful blurb. Thanks kindly for that. Cheers
Wanted to add that speaking about astonishingly rich Iberian folk music, we are clearly reminded of the incredibly rich, relentless and steady contribution to the folk music of the world by the Portuguese, that proud yet humble people who spawned an entire new culture of music overseas. Just saying..
@@BailelaVida Thank you for your kind comment earlier. It is encouraging. I think important things are happening musically in Spain and Portugal (hence Iberian). I think it is fascinating that MARO found the people she most needed for one of the few tasteful Eurovision Songs (Saudade, Saudade) in Catalonia. (MARO - saudade, saudade (Live in Avinyó)). Every last one in the line up is a major creative Its like Portugal and Catalonia are culturally connected. MARO more than any other has been making links. The Lockdown series of a hundred Zoom duet videos "Itsa Me MARO" is hugely significant. Season 4 of her Berklee People videos featured exclusively Portuguese composers. Silvia uses the very rich talent around her and now Rita with years of duetting and supporting local and international talent from Jazz through Folk and Fado to Art pieces is increasingly taking control of her artistic destiny.
I've been learning Spanish for the last year and watching this is my first intro to Silvia... you can really feel the beautiful nuance of the language, the way that she sings and describes the energy of the tiny desk is just so so stunning. It makes me want to keep going until I can get to that fluency to really appreciate her music.
I can only imagine that Sylvia's voice is what the Sirens sounded like to Odysseus! So incredibly captivating! Excellent musicianship all the way around too... the Cello and Bass really complement the songs. Thank you Tiny Desk for another stellar concert!
When I listen to Silvia Pérez Cruz I feel moved in ways that can't be explained with words ... I feel grief, I feel joy, I feel torn, I feel connected and I feel lost. I ❤ love the fact that she made it to the tiny desk!!!! Getting to know Silvia at any point in life is a precious and wonderful gift. Her voice is an antidote to all hate and loneliness, a vehicle to our humanity. Gracias Silvia por todo lo que aportas a nuestras vidas, por llenarlas de colores y de escalas de grises. ❤
i just don't get how i got an ad in the middle of a song. please fix this, whoever in charge. i can watch the ad but just don't jeopardize the initial intent of the video.
Imogen heap, Silvana estrada and natalia lafourcade were immense Tinydesks. Thanks for this too. Hopefully, Benjamin walker and Alice Wonder will do one too🎉🎉 Duende esta musica
Sometimes art is a beautiful landscape; in this case, it is nature that has created it. Silvia's art is like a reflection of this. Her art is so profound and striking that it seems as if it has been created over centuries, not decades ❤❤❤👋👋👋
What a wonderful gift the universe gave to the world in the voice, art, beauty, and light of this woman! She's been my favorite for a decade, literally everything she does is gold. Thank you, Tiny Desk, for having her. I practically peed myself when I saw the title 😅
Thank you Tiny Desk for finally inviting Silvia and thank you Silvia for being such a light! And for traveling to the USA again even though you were just here in April for the Snarky Puppy concert. Your music is so impactful and important
