I didn't know they had more games after Sim Theme Park that were canonically part of the same universe? I played a TON of the Bullfrog Sim Theme Park though, still have the CD too!

I...uh... This is still my favorite game to this day... It's still completely ugly and the little talking blue thing annoyed me even as a kid. When you get deep into the game though, it becomes an absolute BLAST to play. The coasters are fun to make, you can decorate your park and it literally has an effect on everyone there, and the management actually does get deeper than what this video shows when you get to the later levels. This definitely isn't a game for everyone but for me it just hit all the right spots and started my love for sim and builder games.

I remember getting this for my birthday from my uncle since he knew how much I loved Roller Coaster Tycoon. Not since Mario is Missing had I played such a horrible PC game. And this was around the same time I thought Sonic Adventure 2 was the best thing ever.

I spent an ungodly number of hours playing a ps2 version of this: Themepark Rollercoaster. It was a little while back but I remember it being MUCH more polished and streamlined, and it makes so much more sense on a console than pc. It holds your hand a little bit but it works out great to transition in people who have no idea what they're doing. The graphics were more organized, rides didn't clip through each other, models were vastly improved, the multi-theme element of the game was expanded upon, goals improved, and overall it just seems a lot better than the mess of a piece of software shown in this video. Ian, if you're reading this you should totally check that one out and compare the two. Seeing your take on it would be so fantastic. (I'd send it to you but my copy has been damaged beyond repair over the years).

Freakin love this game. The graphics are no match for other roller coaster sims I get it, but to me it's a bit like the difference between Star Wars episode 4 and 3. One is much prettier than the other side by side, but if you let yourself get into the game world you start to really enjoy the A/V choices made by SimCoaster. Besides, SimCoaster mastered the challenge aspect compared with the original RCT. I used to get so excited unlocking new objectives and rides through SimCoaster. I also thought the financial aspect was pretty solid. It's definitely skewed from realism to make it simpler to play as a game, and really the whole simulation is, but I had so much fun with this.

man, when I was a kid this was one of my favorite games! I think I had a later version or second one? Because the one I played had a black exclamation bug man and you started in a dinosaur themed land. I put so many hours into this game as a young kid, and when I say young I mean like 7-12 tops. By the time I was about 13-15 I was playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and only looking back on Sim Theme Park with fond memories lol

I have a themepark game for PS2, it was one of the first games I owned. It's simply called themepark roller coaster. It seemed like a pretty cool game, except the exclamation point was a guy, and hardly ever left the screen. It's basically this game, but with more zones and themes. It was ok for a PS2 game, and thankfully I had a good time with it. It got me into tycoons, so that's great.

I still have this game, I thought it was a great game. I remember you were able to disable the blue thing from talking, and I loved making rollercoaster in theme parks.

I always got the feeling that Sim Coaster was a quickly rushed expansion pack for Sim Theme Park that they decided to release as a "new game."

I still have a copy of the ps1 version. I loved it and honestly the only negative thing I can think of was how slow it was.

I think most forced "teaching" characters would be improved by being voiced by Roses. She's got one of those pleasant voices that feels like a warm blanket on a cold night.

man, watching this video again reminded me of how better the Theme Park World adviser was, he was fun to listen to and you can piss him off so much by clicking on him that he shall just leave and you will have to get him back from the options screen. He was also voiced by Lewis Macleod (famous for being the voice of Sebulba from The Phantom Menace and the current voice of Postman Pat) man. Theme Park World is such a fun game compared to this.

I have nothing to say about this game, except that I see your complaints for the most part…but hey, I LOVED Mr. Paperclip Man (as I used to call him), he was like a little friend on my screen while I wrote stuff and he was adorable. >.> Though, I guess he might have been less charming if he'd had an actual, audible voice. :P

I don't mind the color palette, though I do agree the lack of colours is a poor idea. And yeah...everything else you really said does look just...bad.

I remember playing the shit out of this game when I got it for my birthday as a kid but then it kept crashing the family PC, Like not the program crashing the game it destroying the whole PC and the only way to get it back was a clean install.

I know it's just the path for the disc drive, but I found it highly amusing when the screen said "SimCoaster (D:)". It's as if even the computer was dreading it.

I have many fond memories of its predecessor SimTheme Park. And while that one had some questionable aesthetics, yeah, this one looks downright HIDEOUS

This is actually a Dwemer amusement park.

People say that graphics don't matter, and I somewhat agree with them. The only exception is when the graphics are so bad, I don't want to look at them anymore. I CAN'T look at them anymore.

This game always crashed my family's computer, so I never got to hate it outside of it just not running.

Only IGN would look at mad texture warping and go think "How charming".

Yeah, no, the visuals are horrible. The game itself, like you said, was fine and all...but oh GOD the visuals.

I bought SimCoaster at a school book fair and loved the crap out of it. I was little at the time and Rollercoaster Tycoon was a bit overwhelming, so I appreciated SimCoaster showing me the basics.

Going on a rollercoaster when I was younger was mental-scarring for me.

This game is really ugly. And the main selling point is pretty much ruined with Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 coming out afterwards. Plus, you can get all 3 RCT games with all of there expansions on Steam for 25 dollars.

While not Sim Coaster, I do have a lot of fond, nostalgic memories of its sequel, Sim Theme Park.

You want a good game that has a feature that lets you ride your roller coasters? Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

(3:15) "Rotate it with the less than and greater than keys" Well, assuming it is a US keyboard, isn't it the comma and full stop keys? Why not call it the comma and full stop keys? That way it's more international. On several keyboards, the less than and greater than symbols have been replaced with semi colon and colon; so referencing the symbols that are more consistent seems better.

It may already be mentioned, but the reason Roller Coaster Tycoon ran so well on underperforming PC's of the time, is that the creator, Chris Sawyer, wrote almost the entire game in x86 assembly language. Enjoyed the vid. Cheers!
