Wow...competing with 24 pipers. I can remember when 10-12 pipers was the standard. The level of confidence and balls it takes to compete with two dozen pipers is truly amazing.
The best medley I have ever heard. Remember being in the crowd at Worlds 2009 and being absolutely blown away. The reason why I keep practicing in the hope of joining a grade one band one day
Still listenning to this incredible medley 10 years later, and I have to say ... what a talent in the writing, in the performance, in the style. A really coloured medley with one of the best final ever composed !
This medley, same as last years, is the greatest medley I have ever heard from a pipe band . They are both fully orchestrated with full use of the whole band.I have been playing many years as a drummer, and also for a few years as a piper. This is how a medley should sound. Thank you guys for your performance and thank you so much for posting Best regards Brian Jacobi
Living 15 minutes from SFU, it's great to get be able to get out to many of their local shows each year. Sadly, they are relatively unknown outside of their circles here though _(pun unintentional)_ .
@piperdmac Actually, this tune is called: The Dagshai Hills..when it was published, they printed it with a wrong name ;) Sry for my google tranlator english :) Greetings from switzerland!
Canada scared the piss out of their citizens about Covid. I hope and pray this mighty band comes back bigger and stronger than ever. I miss this very much. I hope the old guy graduates soon.
it's called "we are better than you, there just no hope, go home" Followed by "too many notes, not enough musicality". I hate pipe band competitions, especially the worlds. Simon Fraser is just plain arrogant, Schotts is way better musically, and they are fun people as well.
It's now more than 8 years since this was recorded, but on that day, according to the judges, SFU got the better of the other competitors. The personal opinions of the rest of us re: musicality or self-esteem (that you label "arrogance") never affect the rankings.
