STILL one of the most beautiful songs ever made! Paul Simon is a fucking MASTER of songwriting... and we all know that. But ART GARFUNKEL, strait-up, has a voice that makes you believe that the Gods MUST exist!!!
@@angelika_munkastrap4634, I've been around for a long time and you are the only one I have ever heard say this. Sorry, but if that was true people would have talked about that.
Paul Simon is truly a magical lyricist, and Art Garfunkel's vocals are simply the best. When the duo sing together, their harmonies give me the chills.
The man is well known for stealing songs and calling them his own. Might have done that with this too. Not saying he doesn't write alot of their songs but he didn't write them all, that's for darn sure
I don't hate him, I'm just really disappointed, to have loved someone and pedestalled someone your whole life only to find they'd do something like this, because it seemed easier to get away with it. I mean the man was from another country, a small time folksinger. Who'd pay attention to him when you're flashy and big time and back in America copywriting his song as yours?
Glass houses and dirty laundry, (not the album or the song ), - just a comment regarding people pointing fingers. Oh, well. It seems like bringing up the negatives has become one of our favorite pastimes today.
Art Garfunkel is the lead singer here. He is famous for a tenor male voice. Paul Simon wrote this song, words and music, and all their songs for that matter. Simon sings background here and lead on other songs from the group. You could react to a different Paul Simon authored song each hour for a week and not find a bad one. He is indeed one of the greatest songwriters of the modern era.
That thunder you mentioned was the only drums in the song. The great drummer Hal Blaine of the Wrecking Crew played only two large tom-toms, while set up on a ramp near an open elevator shaft.
Thank you so much for playing that! To this very day, Art Garfunkel’s voice as he sings that song has the power to make all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and make me cry. I LOVE IT. I’m convinced this song alone earned him a direct flight into Heaven.
Have I badgered you into listening to For Emily Wherever I May Find Her? It's my goto for Art Garfunkel. I'm sure you already know it, but it's sooo beautiful, I can't pass up the chance to mention it.
Alrightie, here's my Simon and Garfunkel list in no particular order, and I left a LOT out, but these are my faves: Scarborough Fair, Sound Of Silence, For Emily Wherever I May Find Her, Cecilia, Homeward Bound, America, A Hazy Shade Of Winter, April Come She Will, I Am A Rock, The Only Living Boy In New York, 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night (for Christmas).
Love the list! Secretly I would love it if Mr. Video would react to Cecilia. 🤣🤣🤣 Just thinking about his facial expressions alone in the first 20 seconds is enough. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The opinions/advice he will give after that is gravy.
"“Sail on silver girl / Sail on by / Your time has come to shine / All your dreams are on their way.” This destroys me. This is, hands down, one of the greatest songs of all time. Gets the feelings all stirred up, lol. Great reaction.
Art Garfunkel was the lead singer, Paul Simon (dark hair) was also singer, pianist & guitarist. When I was 10 yrs old the album of Bridge over Troubled Water came out & my mom bought it for me, I think 1970. Just adored them at the time and also now ofcourse!!
Great reaction! I love how you just _let the song play,_ ffs, and save the analysis 'til after. Btw, the sound that you aptly describe as "like thunder almost" (4:55) is Hal Blaine's tom drum. Garfunkel asked Hal to loosen the skin on his tom, and then play his drum part at _double_ the tempo of the song. Then when they slowed that recording back down to normal tempo, the drum sounded (in the words of Art Garfunkel) "very fat, and cushy, and it becomes what we call the 'explosion drum'.... to me it's the neatest sound!" Cheers.
A very dynamic duo, they complemented one another so well; this song has been covered by some of the finest singers alive or dead, but the full-impact feels are right here. Great choice👏
I cry every single time I hear this. Artie had the most beautiful voice of all time. Simon played the guitar, sang and wrote most of the songs. PS I cried watching this. 🥲
If you truly have not listened to lots of Simon and Garfunel yet... then you should just for your personal listening. I think they are a Beatles band from a different mother. This band was the heart, soul, and conscious mind of New York if not America for a huge demographic. They reflected and spoke to and for generations. The Boxer, Mrs. Robinson, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), The Sounds Of Silence,
S&G best duo in the history of music....they only made five studio albums together...ever....listen to “The Dangling Conversation “ Incredible poetry....Paul Simon wrote 99% of their songs.....try “ My Little Town” by them....a blow away song.
Robert, "My Little Town" for me was always bittersweet, because it showed us what was lost when they broke up at the height of their creativity. My buddy and I, both S&G fans, were blown away by it.
@@TPOrchestra I agree….My Little Town touched me in a profound way…I grew up in a small town where my father was a doctor and known by everyone….I was always “Dr. Hoffman’s son”….the line “… I never meant nothing I was just my fathers son…” always touched a chord deep inside me.
Great production! Paul Simon knew how to write a song and S&G harmonies all right up there with the best! You like harmonies check out Crosby Stills & Nash or Crosby Stills Nash & Young.
Very nice. I have a rather obscure one for you. Esther Satterfield doing "Soft". Very beautiful and delicate song. She doesn't scream and throw it at you, she hands it to you.
Love this song for sure. It’s a great lyric but do check out the Elvis Presley version from 1970 live in Vegas. He takes it to a different level vocally 😀😀
