I'm no big fan of Anthony Taylor, but anyone who watched the Europa League final last year will know the players for both teams by the end were at each other, very aggressive and it became a stop/start match. It was incredibly difficult to manage and I thought he did well under those conditions
James Taylor, I appreciate that but good referees don't let things escalate. Your namesake lost control of the game. Having had the misfortune to have had him several times this season refereeing my club, I would hope we formally request he's not given the job again. The standard of PL referees is currently very poor and from what I've witnessed recently Taylor is one, if not the worst.
2 European finals but Simon is incorrect, he won the first one, conference lg 2 seasons ago. The next year he took them to the Europa lg final. A great achievement for a Roma manager.
But the league form should be better. 6th place in last 2 seasons, 9th now. Roma have a good squad, Champions League spot is what the owners want. Now they're are looking at Daniele Due Rossi, former player who is from Rome. Inexperienced, but passionate for the club.
@@nigelxavier883 I agree they are 9th just now but still in the running for top 6. I just think its crazy for a club like Roma to sack a manage who, in last 2 seasons has finished 6th and got to a European final. That surely is a good return for Roma. Too quick these days to get rid
@@stevenellis5574 I like Mourinho, I'm Portuguese also. He got 2 consecutive red cards and last week he said he's not Harry Porter. Lost 4 Rome derbies inc last week 1-0 to Lazio, one draw and one win. Lost to Jive and last weekend to AC Milan. His contract would end in June. Owners wanted to get new coach now for next season. Daniele Due Rossi maybe.
Roma hired him to get them back into the UCL. He hasn't achieved this either by winning the Europa league or getting into the top 4, so this is no surprise.
@@tevildo45- Lukaku - The guy that the British Press called a busted flush and has scored 14 goals in 17 games under Mourinho 😂😂😂 I see you. You're too transparent.
I don't think there are many people who could have done a better job at Roma than Mourinho. The Roma project was meant to be one where he was backed financially to bring in players and build a team who could compete. After Tammy came in, that didn't really happen. The reality is they didn't give him the money they promised and instead he had to use loans and free transfers to try and build a team. Back to back top 6 finishes whilst also getting to European finals, losing the latter to Sevilla who have won 5 of the last 10 finals, is a great achievement for such a weak squad. If Aston Villa or Newcastle did this, they would be praised non stop. Although they only won 1 of the last 6 Serie A games, they were all against teams above them in the league and the win was against Napoli. When you look at the red cards Mourinho has had, some are justified, some are ridiculous. Arteta and Klopp would get sent off every few weeks in Serie A. I really hope Mourinho takes a break for a few months and then takes over a club who will actually back him and sign players he wants. He is still one of the elite managers in world football and I have no doubt he will continue to have success in future.
@@Flipmode1900 they are 5 points behind 4th spot and if Serie A is given an extra spot in the Champions League then they only only 4 points off, having just played games against the teams above them. So it would be very easy to go on a run against the lower teams and get the points needed to climb into the European places.
In the past. His league form recently speaks for itself. He concentrates on cup competitions, could not get into top 4 even with Juventus being deducted points, gets into tiff with refs and has a mountain sized ego.
Great coach and motivator, but he's in decline. Mourinho won Champions League with Porto in 2004, so he's done very well for 20 years. Saudi, MLS or international side for him now. He said his last job would be coaching Portugal.
Yes but thatis long time ago...class is forever but be realistic what he have done in England after Chelsea and Italy......he is not adapting to new standards in football....he is old in that sense to...behavior at sideline is embarrising with cards all the time....
Mourinho was the best thing to happen to Roma in decades. He made them relevant again on the world stage. He did well at Utd and no worse then Conte at Spurs. He is nowhere near finished and is still elite.
@@jasonreid6791 neither will appoint him. The top table - man city, Liverpool, real Madrid, barca, bayern, psg. Maybe PSG would appoint him. It would be the sort of desperate move they would make. Other than that none of the current top clubs would go near him. International management or a similar job to spurs/roma is next for him.
Roma 2nd lowest spenders in serie A, having to sign Free agents anď then having those free agents getting constantly injured while being in back to back European cup finals, winning one of them. Wtf is jim white on about
@@tevildo45 the highest wage bill doesnt correlate to the money he was allowed to spend. You're trying to conflate the 2 to minimize his achievements. He got 6th with a squad that were top 6 quality and then won them a European trophy against all odds. Then the following season he gets them into a Europa league final having being the lowest spenders, having half his team struck with injuries as well
They weren't tipped to win the competition at all, it was spurs. He comes in and wins them the trophy then next season he gets them to another European cup final. Like I said bringing up the wage bill is irrelevant because it doesnt apply to Jose, so I don't know what you're getting with that. You're trying to avoid the fact that Roma have spent just 15mill in the last 2 years but you expect him to compete right? Dont expect a response from me if you bring up an irrelevant wage bill while ignoring the transfer spend, FFP restrictions and constant injuries he had to deal with
Back to Back European Finals including winning one, loved by the fans and hampered by injuries this season. Typical 3rd year departure for Jose, his managerial style take sits toll but he leaves another club a winner. Onto the next one...the man is a legend despite Jim Whites Bitterness.
I watch every Roma match... they a re just 5 points off the top 4. We are now kick starting the second round. A lot can change only if he has time... players and fans are not too happy with this decision because this roma side he has built is not bad side at all... A few challenges here and there ,converting chances into goals has been a struggle,, with player injuiries , Ivan indicka left for AFCON forcing him to introduce another loan player to set up a new back three, dybalas injuries, introducing academy players like Bove and Nicolai etc is a great feat for Jose Give Jose the financial backing and the players he wants just like pep, klopp and co and he will deliver
Jim white would absolutely keck his pants in a face to face interview with Jose, this is what I hate about pundits most so easy to spew these posinious narratives when you havent got anywhere near the same credentials.
Anthony Taylor deserved to be called out after that game. Even if Mourinho didn't have a go at the ref the fans were always going to confront Taylor if they saw him
As a roma fan jose done amazing got roma to 2 finals in 3 years won a cup something roma aint used too i think he earned the right to finish this season. The Italian league has been the most competitive in the last 5 years as i can ever remember plus roma have had transfer nonsense which ment they reslly could only get loan or free players anyway thanks jose m 😊
When Jose first joined Spurs he was happy and light-hearted. That was the great side of him. He stopped smiling, he became surly and non communicative. As soon as that happened I thought Spurs need to get rid of him.
He just like to challenge himself, picking up the nasty choices. Spurs reputation was similar to Man U back then. Kane & Son, deadliest duo under his mantle. Both clubs took so many cycles to finally 'stabilize' their club mentality, Ange & ETH are really lucky they were at the end of those cycles.
he had no other options mate spurs level was the best he could get at that stage. what you think barca madrid or city gave him offers?@@vincineratev9183
Everyone remembers jose shouting at Anthony Taylor, but let's remember this is the same Anthony Taylor that everyone is currently against for his multiple bad calls in alot of matches... Even to the point that he was demoted to the championship 😂😂😂😂😂 But jose is a disgrace because he said it to his face, while they're all saints because they said it on live tv away from him and his family... Anyhow let's see how roma will end up...sacking a manager who won you your first trophy in years and also took you to another final the next year...a manager you gave only 100m and he didn't use up to 70m and was never given anything again... They're forgetting that there's a big gap in quality between roma and other top teams in Italy and this isn't because of jose.. Comparing yourself with inter,ac Milan, Napoli, who have been spending big in transfers for years... Just because you spent only 100m, you think you can measure up... Napoli alone spent 70m on victor osimhen... Jose always getting the stick for bad ownership, Manchester united, spurs, now roma... All teams who forget they're way behind and want to over achieve from spending nothing... Go and check how much pep spends on transfers... Or klopp before he won his first trophy
The attempts to discredit Mourinho as a manager because he's been fired multiple times is always hilarious to me because you can't erase his legacy, Some win UCLs with Porto some need £3 Billion to win them,. If England have any ambition they'd sack Southgate RIGHT NOW and get Mourinho in!
@@tevildo45 im not particularly 'his fan' , i don't even support any of his ex clubs, im just nott unbias enough to not see his legacy and everything he has achieved.
@@civildiscourse7626Mourinho's not just one of the goats because of Chelsea though is he mate. What's Ranieri done outside of Leicester? Nowt. What's Mourinho done outside of the premier league? Won in multiple other top leagues. It's a stupid comparison bringing Ranieri into it
@@sammybeck4855 I brought up Leicester because the lead comment mentioned Porto- well by that logic Leicester is 10x the harder achievement but that doesn’t put ranieri anywhere near the goat leagues. Jose has done great… in the past. But much like a players career you balance the highs and lows before ab overall judgment and he has many many lows.
Jose is a legend and always will be. I do feel the game has moved on a bit and (as Simon points out) a lot of that is to do with ‘player power’ and lack of respect. Many of these young guys are getting more money than they know what to do with and as footballers, the fame and fortune goes right to their heads. I don’t think he has anything left to prove at club level and I think the perfect role for him would be the Portugal job.
Brought a European title to Roma and another final. The man wins things. Unfortunately he falls out with people all too often and cannot keep his mouth shut
@@1980sebm It is objectively a third tier trophy but I agree it can be a relative goal for some clubs. But for most of the top clubs or their supporters if you offered them a guaranteed conference league trophy in the next 3 years they would still turn it down without even thinking.
NUFC can't ask for a better opportunity to sign Jose Mourinho, that too on a free, NUFC will welcome him with arms wide open, this would be signing of the decade, the Special One is back, NUFC
For context, he has a negative net spend (profit) of 17 million over 3 years, led them to two European finals. Lost one on PK’a after 2 shocking decisions by the referee a blatant penalty & red card. Was sacked when he was 5 points from top 4 & in the UEL knockouts
I heard so much credit given to him which is of course only just based on his achievement but the game has moved on and looks like he didnt. Carlo Ancelotti way above JM, his achievements are even more remarkable (how many champions league!) while his genius doesn't need any combustible character or provocative style. He can work in cycle, he can work longer as he did in AC Milan. Above all, he has evolved and managed to stay relevant in the elite club keep smashing records. Mourinho's tenure was ended for me On 17 December 2015, after losing nine of 16 Premier League matches at Chelsea. At the end of all this he leaves with Millions in his pocket, having made a name for himself in history and probably wouldnt care less what people think of him :D
No its not in his dreams its always been planned, unfortunately Eddie Howe is not an elite manager and like Man City the A rabs, will want one because Man city have got one, Howes day were always numbered tbh unless he won the prem or Champions league the moment he couldn't do either he was doomed. unfortunately really as he hasn't done a bad job.
He achieved maximum with that limited squad. What brought him down was Dybala's injuries issues, cos he is literally the only decent player they have in that squad. He had to cope with Belotti who's finishing is worse then Werner's, and Lukaku who got ditched by everyone cos he moves like a tank and dissapears against a half decent opposition. Most coaches would not go near a club like Roma, let alone reach 2 european finals.
José Mouhrino is the next manager of Brazilian national team. He is Portuguese, speaks English and Spanish. Roma has just solved the problem at Brazilian national team after Ancelloti decided to renew his contract at Real Madrid.
Mourinho, no matter what happen anytime in the future Roma and Roma fans will never ever forget you, You were Mr. Special, You are Mr. Special and you will stay Mr. Special, despite your absence, we truly ❤ U from bottom of our hearts ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
People hate success when its not there own you know your successful when you get hate i absolutely love jose his one of the best of all time he won trophies at every club accept spurs the man won a champions league with porto for god sake yes it was in 2004 but im not sure even pep could do that
Well, Simon said it himself, "You might like it, you might not like it". Let's stick to football, did Mourinho revolutionise football, did he stamp his mark in football ? Appart from leading some top spending clubs to win titles, did he produce any kind of football that makes you go, wow ...
Jose Mourhino did unquestionably revolutionise football, especially in the English speaking world. When you talk about football you talk about Jose Mourhino. The very language we speak today, is the language of Jose. One of the greatest managers of all time. Thay treble with inter Milan, at that time, is itself enough for immortality but he has done so much more as well.
Porto were a Europa league team, finishing 3rd, hadn’t won the league for awhile. Mourinho came in won everything he could his first season, dominated the league and led them to the biggest underdog win in the champions league. Best defensive premier league team of all time, unbeatable at home, dominated Alex Ferguson United, arsenal invincibles and Liverpool champions league winners for 2 years. Greatest season ever in Italy with inter Milan, look how long it took them to have success after he left. Real Madrid were losers when he took over, couldn’t make it past the last 16 in the champions league, no cups, constantly second place in the league. Mourinho came in had the greatest season in laliga history with most points, most goals and took down that Barcelona team. Had immediate success on his return to Chelsea, sacked during 1 bad season Only United manager that can come second, win multiple trophies, including in Europe, look at United before him, look at them since him. Had spurs in a cup final, was better than conte there is conte finished? Back to back European finals, 5 points off top 4 only able to sign loan players and free transfers nobody else wanted for the last 2 years and gets sacked. He’s realistically had 2 maybe 3 poor seasons in almost a quarter of a century
Clearly an agenda against Jose like there is against Ronaldo. It’s not hard to see, it’s not even worth entertaining someone so ignorant and silly to have an agenda of those 2. It’s just like arguing with a child or an invalid
Mourinho brings hate on himself. Assaulting a manager on the touchline, verbally abusing rival managers. Jim has said nothing wrong. Learn English people
The bottom line is Jose should call it a day in football management. Whether all of us and I mean all of us like it or not our orra fades, especially in those whose light shone the brightest. A time when you entered any gathering and turned heads, a time when most of your ideas and put-in-place plans were extremely successful a time when the people around you who worked and supported you bought into you fully which was underlined by repeated success. It's not always just about the above, some people emit such positive energy mere mortals are attracted to. Success breeds success. From having that mischievous smiling twinkle in his eye and being the special one he's become gray and not special anymore, it happens in all walks of life, a bittersweet pill for all those who've had it and lost it after time, Jose showed exactly that tendency when defending himself by trying to remind the media how successful he is, was/has been, which they all, of course, knew, which in his world he can't comprehend why anyone would? Regrettably, Jose, it happens to all alphas eventually, the young may remember and sort of respect you, but are not totally listening or inspired by you as once were. If you still want the love you once had, lay low for a while, and let the dust settle, later returning as a pundit, where every media outlet would want you, without the pressure, so again showing who you truly are and can be again. Just a thought Jose.
The problem is that the "isolated incidents" became ever more frequent whilst the performance of his teams became less impressive. His behaviour in the dugout at Roma has been disgraceful.
You dont know what you are talking about. Roma is a small club with a big fanbase. They are not a big club nor have a big budget. Still what Mou did for them that is bringing them their first european cup and europa final is massive. The club did Jose wrong. I just hoped we get to see Jose soon in a major league.
How quick tables can turn. He called Wenger a specialist in failure, now he's a specialist in sacking. Called himself a Special one, now he's the sacked one.
Bias abounds. Brian Clough punched a young Roy Keane in the stomach after a game once among a litany of other controversial things he said or did. Still fondly remembered for what he did in the game. Mourinho is not for everyone. He either got on your nerves or inspired devout loyalty. Look at his departure from Inter after the treble. Players are crying and hugging him as he leaves. Zlatan, one of the most opinionated men in the history of the game travels to England in his mid 30’s to have a chance to be coached by him again. His record and trophy haul is something to be admired.
Jose is one of the best managers in world football. Unfortunately, he's lost his mojo. That magic is gone. He's too negative. His playing style sulks. How can a coach have more red cards than some of his players? He has to go back to his former self
Why wouldn't you want a winner at your football club? He's. Loose cannon but also very passionate and cares about the job he's doing. I'd like to see him given a few tournaments for England.
@@joegugg4129 in 4 years. Let the sink! He didn't spend it in one window, so what do you expect? Do you even know where he started from? The club was in a mess and he needed to fix it slowly. That's a tough job. Maybe get tht kinda job first then you can judge someone like Arteta. Don't come here just to write numbers like you gave him the money to spend.
What's crazy to me is how people talk about how far they were from UCL qualification (which was only 5 points by the way) and they forget that when he got there they were happy to get into and win the Europa Conference league. They next season he was cheated out of a Europa league by incompetent Anthony Taylor but he still made the final. And now they are talking about UCL as if failure to make the UCL is a failure for Roma. If that's not progress I don't know what is.
