I thought Tuchels comments so far have been very revealing. He's taken the job for one reason and with one (pretty short term) objective: To win the world cup. Not to develop English talent, not to act as the face of English football in the media, not to be the centre of the England coaching set-up across all the age ranges. It's quite different to the role Southgate was playing, and it's a testament to the work he and his team did that Tuchel will not need to focus on that stuff. I expect Tuchel to make ruthless, short term decisions to deliver that and not to care too much if there's any collateral damage.

I don't understand the title. How would Tuchel's success be separate from that of England's? Either both are or they are not. If you don't want him, I'm sure Norway would be very happy to hire him and save you from his . . . . success. I would have thought that after Sven Eriksson, English fans would have been more receptive to coaches from other countries.
