you noticing his style of bass is great because it is wonderful and very much a part of their sound playing just the bass line is the song glad someone out here has done a video on this thank you.
Great stuff! Simon Raymonde is a big inspiration to me too. And I love that bass-it sounds amazing! I used to have one similar to that, and I'm still kicking myself for having sold it years ago. "Sugar Hiccup" is actually all Robin, though. Simon didn't join the band until 1984.
jaja! you know what? you are right!! and its not like i didnt look before, but then i saw a video with him playing that song and i forgot. jaja. the big question to me, and maybe you know the answer, is why he didnt play on victorialand..
@@diegobanjocontrabajo You know, Simon seems to have picked up on what Robin was doing on bass in _Head Over Heels_ , because (and I only just noticed this after watching your video) "Pearly Dewdrops' Drops" and "Heaven or Las Vegas" both use the same C#/C turnaround in the chorus as "Sugar Hiccup," not to mention the same sort of double-stops on the D and G strings. I think at the time _Victorialand_ was being recorded, Simon was busy with This Mortal Coil; he was heavily involved in the _Filigree & Shadow_ album.
@@diegobanjocontrabajo hi, thanks! it's nothing sinister. I was recording the This Mortal Coil album It'll End In Tears and cos they were a couple at that time, R & L wanted to do something. It wasn't initially meant to be a cocteaus album but....hey ho, that's what happened. R&L were big fans of my band The Drowning Craze and the way i played. I had an 8 string ibanez and the first song i wrote with them was on that bass, it was called Millimillenary and i suppose that shows the kinda chords and rhythms i was into at the time.

diegobanjocontrabajo indeed an 8 string bass. Weird isn’t it!? It was so tough to play cos it was strung like a 12 string guitar ie so a bass string and then a guitar string for the first note an octave between them of course. Tough for young fingers to hold down chords on all those strings! You have done a great job with this video. Lovely sound too. Glad you have enjoyed my playing.

Youre Right its like they used the bass for rythm and guitars for licks and riffs and small parts with effects with pedals. I was just listening to primitive heart by ctc and while the bass was playing more in single note style and not rythm i found the bass sound so mesmerising. i was just looking for bass prices some minutes ago lol. While every part of the band obviously has their own place in the bands sound i tend to find mysef liking simon justa bit more than the rest lol. Not that it matters... cool vid man
