Simon Scott - How Carp Feed

Long time Baitworks user and fish biologist Simon Scott gives us an insightful and fascinating breakdown of how carp detect food and what happens once those food items enter a carps mouth.
I'm sure this brief, yet educational video will get the old grey matter working in terms of rig machanics alone.

@@BaitworksTV I bet! As a fishery owner of a very spotty estate lake in France it's been incredible to watch how the lake bottom has evolved over the 8 years. The carp have excavated huge holes in the lake bed in their ceaseless search for food. I describe carp as mini JCB's with fins! It's also ridiculous that amount of food they'll get through in a night. I've seen mine do 15kg of 24mm boilies in a night off one spot.

wheat is a great addition and micronised maize, both lower costs than pellets. Hope that helps

So why do they wash out the boilies for the biggest catches ? With no aromas no colours, how do they find the food ? Just by luck ? Because many PRO fishermen say that for big carpa you should put a minimum aroma
@ukadventurecycling2740
@ukadventurecycling2740 5 лет назад
Just one problem with that video.. he forgot to mention that carp use their eyes first to find food.. then what he said after.
@BaitworksTV
@BaitworksTV 5 лет назад
They can't use there eyes to find food from ten metres away, the eyes help for sure but only when up close.

@@MrJ-ro1yr We've tried loads of fancy bait in recent years. Didn't work for us. Bait we catch on is spam, various types of pellet, method mix or dog biscuit on the top.
@thecarpcrew5556
@thecarpcrew5556 5 лет назад
Never had much luck with boilies either. Recently read that soaking them (rainwater is best due to the lack of chlorine & fluoride) for a day or so before you go helps release the flavours when they're out as bait. Maybe give that a go? Baits that go well for us are spam covered in curry powder, halibut pellets, Sonubaits "oozing" pellets, or dog biscuits/ wholemeal bread floating on the top. You can also try sweetcorn but for some reason the fish round our way aren't interested in it. Chickpeas are also worth a go. If boilies are what you really want to get into check out Starmer Baits. They have a good range (not just boilies either) aren't too expensive & don't give it the hard sell. Boilies can be good, but buying loads of them gets expensive & some of the bait companies are so commercial they hype their baits up so they can shift as much as possible. Same with tackle, they invent these things so need to see a quick return on the development & marketing so they hype it up & make people think they need these things, but really they don't. Last time we were out we were catching all day using stale dog biscuit I bought about 3 years ago & a rod we've had since 1985 🤷‍♂️

The Carp Crew thank you so much for the tips and information I’m going on the 8th just got a cc more session pack £23 with 2kg of pellet mixed and 1kg of boilies and pop ups was gonna chop boilies up hemp and corn with the pellets and spod that out use pop up on my hook tipped with a bit of corn u think that would do the trick as I’m a beginner and my pb is 17lb hope to beat it Monday but thanks again mate
