as im beginning to learn on my turkish oud mr. shaheen has been one of my favorites to listen too a magnificent artist with a truly amazing command of this ancient and beautiful instrument
@@Sam-gn6og I don't see how this is relevant and how it would change the fact that it's an amazing instrument?! Either it was developed by the Arabs or Turks or the people of Mesopotamia. Why you think this is important to mention, especially in this context. I just don't get it!
at 7:56 the textural quality of the Oud, and Simon's impeccable technique, permits an almost percursive quality to the back melody, you can almost hear the Flamenco castanets and claps, which is very fitting for a song inspired by the city of Qantara. Genius composition and playing.
@@2021kyoto Yes, but only partially true! The dance mostly. Flamenco is an amalgamation of several cultures that made it's home in southern spain, including, and very evidently so, arabs! I recommend this video if you're interested and haven't watched, it's as deep as a 10min video can be but it's very good ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XYgTkW4WK80.html
The album was called "Dance Mediterranea" here is the long live version, superb solo with ney=flute ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wpAT94SGNtI.html. it'll make your day if u never listened to it ;)
I wouldnt say the best of all time or the current time my vote goes to another great master oud player... but Simmon Shaheen has defiantly helped middle eastern music and especially the Oud to grow in North America I wish him all the best his work is the greatest in North America and hope he goes on and makes greater things I am a great supporter for these great musicians anywhere they are.
@@deathhunter6628 no such thing as best oud player or musician, this is not a competition but an art.... I respect and admire any great musician when he carries his work to the future and help others
This man cannot say Israel. He uses Palistine which is the name of Israel,Judea, and Sumaria given by the ancient Greeks, and revived by the Romans in the 2nd century..
