Television in the 80's was the best. Great shows with great theme music. The Dukes of Hazzard, Magnum P.I., The A-Team, Knight Rider, Chips, Hardcastle & McCormick, The Greatest American Hero, Miami Vice, MacGyver and Simon & Simon.
And Riptide, Remington Steel, Moonlighting Edit: ok the song from riptide the others are good shows but the songs not. But „the streets of San Francisco“ good song
Jesus Christ the sovereign God loves you, I hope you can have a loving obedient and trusting relationship with the Holy Trinity who miraculously healed me :" )
@@user-cr8dq7sc6h There have always been those counterculture, communist (latent, obscured) themes in shows... between the theme song ("Diff'rent Strokes", listen to it, among others), the themes of shows, etc. It just wasn't as overt as it is now.
What memories THIS brings back! Newly married, building our young family, I was living at probably my favorite duty station ever, Reagan was President, and all was right with the world. Back then my wife and I made a _point_ of watching shows like _Simon & Simon, Magnum PI, The A Team, Hill Street Blues, The Fall Guy, Knight Rider,_ the list was endless. And it might as well have been 10 days ago, that's how fresh the memories are.
Man... those are my absolute earliest (concrete) memories... about '84-'85. Remember a few things before that, but as far as truly remembering the lineup... that Thursday night was it.
Funny you say that because look at the last frames of the end of this episode. Does that guy on the left and the guy on the right look familiar? Hint (Higgins and Thomas Magnum) respectively.
Oh man, you remember the 80s? Remember the waterbeds, and the clothes that would change colors when you touched them? I had my own version of those at the time. I could fall asleep in a regular bed, only to wake up in my own waterbed. Then, I could put on my magic white shorts that could change colors: The front would be yellow, and the back would be brown!
Couldn't have said it any better. I came on here after reminiscing about old shows, and thinking, would I ever find anything about the 2000s I might one day consider nostalgic? And my answer is no. Nothing. The 80s were just plain fun and cool. Everything was popping suddenly. Home computers became a thing. We had great music plus still a bit of 50s, 60s & 70s music being played commonly because ppl of those decades were still very active. TV almost always ended on a fun positive even though at times unrealistic note. It was just so much more fun. The perfect time to be a kid and young adult.
@@bill4786 I think it will take time before people get nostalgic for the 2000s. It takes a while before people forget all the bad parts. We're nostalgic for the 80s today and gloss over how it wasn't perfect then. I don't know about you, but as much as I liked the 80s, I'd still rather live in the 2020s.
Yep. Almost a full decade of watching that show. Went from an unemployed student to just starting a supervisory position. It was an interesting time. Good shows though.
@@TheCashmanwins I literally can't sing the Fall Guy theme song without my eyes welling up on the line, "I die for living in the movies and TV...". You have taste and class sir. I commend you. BTW, I also love the other lesser known version of the Simon & Simon theme song. I'm sure you've heard it, but wanted to mention it just in case. Be well friend!
@@justafanofnerdculture7602 Oh man! I don't know if I remember it or if I just want to so badly that I'm mixing up that with the Episode of C.H.I.P.S when Erik Estrada / Officer Frank Poncherello performed on Solid Gold. Thank you for sending me down a rabbit hole! Haha
Nothing like being alive in the 80’s. Watching this show was the greatest as a kid. To make it that much better, I was born & raised in San Diego so you can imagine the pride. They don’t make them like they used to. I miss these days. Can we please go back?
christopher chandler I live in San Diego nowadays and even for as many TV shows are set in California, SD always gets overlooked. I recognised that Coronado bridge 💕
Almost EVERY single 80's opening theme song was 🔥🔥🔥! A-Team, Knight Rider, MagnumPI, Hillstreet Blues, Threes Company, Whats Happening, Dallas, Fallguy etc.
this is why the 80s will never be beat for tv. it was fun, didn't take itself seriously and had kick ass intro themes like this. TV is too serious today and uses violence and sex to sell shows
I agree, Simon & Simon was GREAT!! It didn't need sex & violence to sell the show. Jeannie Wilson (who played Janet) was sexy as hell. She didn't have to walk around half naked to get you to watch the show.
completely agree.....until it started to take a moral hand to the show, like macgyver did too. rather than keeping it as a zany detective show which was fun and light hearted, it became a moral story trying to demonstrate some moral value each episode, thats when i lost interest in both simon and simon and macgyver.
I concur! I used to watch this when I was a kid! Loved the light-hearted, joking parody of this show! So many cop and detective shows (such as Law and Order) take things So seriously that it is Downright Depressing! I for one simply want to escape and get away from the heavy hardships of real life after a hard day!
I rarely ever missed an episode, I was fortunate enough to meet Gerald Mcraney (? On spelling) he was signing autographs at the World Of Wheels in Atlanta. He was very good with the fans.
Such an abundance of good series in the 80s! "Simon & Simon", "The Fall Guy", "The A-Team" and "Scarecrow and Mrs King" were my personal favourites as a kid growing up in Germany in the 80s. Plus "The Cosby Show". And all of them had such great theme songs. This surely is one of the best theme songs ever.
Certainly makes me miss my late wife, and my little babies who ain't babies no more. Man I wouldn't trade the 80s for _anything_ and would give my right arm to rack it up and do it again.
@@InformationIsTheEdge T/y and yes, unquestionably the best decade of my life. The 60s were cool as a kid, and we lived a comfortable lifestyle (my dad was a developer in LA at the time); but there was so much social tumult at the time it was also a neurotic decade for us. 80s were a different story and nobody had it better than my wife and me and our kids.
Best theme song out there with the electric guitar and sax. Kids today have no clue. Theme songs are what made the shows. You get hooked in by a good ol boy, or talk about solders of fortune. They now have you and reeling you in............
we need "MORE COWBELL!" :D :D :D this Simon & Simon Theme is an all time favorite. together with Magnum P.I. these guitar riffs are epic. simple cool original american style.
Great series! Never missed an episode. Both Mr. Parker and Mr. McRaney had great chemistry as fictional brothers on this show. Mr. Parker is now a novelist and Mr. McRaney is still acting.
I'm going to watch the whole series soon. I love going back to the 80s and watching these old series' - I watched Moonlighting last year, and after each episode, I would follow it with a full episode of Johnny Carson. Then I would watch a classic boxing match, like Leonard, Hearns, Hagler or Duran and it was like living back in the day. So awesome!
The cop shows in the 80s were so good with the most memorable themes. Its so crazy (but maybe not so crazy) that many of us remember watching these shows with our parents or grandparents. My favorites were, of course, Simon & Simon, Hunter, Night Heat, 21 Jump Street & Magnum P.I.
This is one of the best shows ever on t.v. I actually think it got better and better the longer it was on. The later seasons are really good and funny.
Simon & Simon was a very well developed, and thought out TV program. Beats most “Reality” TV to hell, which just celebrates bad behavior, ignorance, and unnecessary drama all for the sake of ratings. Other than some of the programming on the “History Channel”, Reality Tv has no discernible plot or purpose. Just sugary brain swill for the simple masses.
@@FLYSUBS89 reruns, my man, reruns. My parents watched MASH, Magnum PI, Rockford Files, Hawaii 5-0, Simon and SImon and Hunter. I use to watch them with them as a kid.
When you remember the opening theme music from Lou Grant (1977-1982) AND Steve McGarratt's favourite expression ''Book him Danno, murder one'', nothing made today will ever beat the old classics.🙂🙂🙂
I used to come home from school and watched the reruns while I made my lunch since the school lunch was lame so reruns and lunch was my thing back in the 80s
This is my favorite tv show of all time. Brings back good memories for me. Used to watch this with my mom on Thur nights than went to bed after for school in the morning.
As a young kid I remember fighting with my mom to stay up an extra hour late to watch this it was always on right at bedtime. I won most of the time..lol Great show...
I used to love this show back when I was a kid in the 80s. I always wanted to play sax in this theme song live for a bar band! Rick and A J were undoubtedly the coolest 80s show characters!
Simon & Simon, Magnum P.I., The A-Team. Riptide, Miami Vice, Street Hawk, Stingray, Knight Rider, Misfits of Science... these are the shows that defined the 80s for me. Always fun! Back then and today as well!
Watching opening themes was part of watching the show. There was this build up of excitement. Now shows start and credits begin during the actual show. Such a shame.
@@philipzamora4259 But opening sequences are much shorter than they were in the 60s-90s. Sequences like this one, Magnum P.I., Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, Quantum Leap, The Prisoner, etc all had opening sequences that were 1 minute or longer. Nowadays, a _long_ opening title sequence is about 30 seconds. Most modern televised programs have sequences of no more than 10 seconds.
