That's part of being an athlete. You sacrifice your body to achieve in whatever sport you do. I have had over 6 concussions playing football and I don't regret any of it. It's part of being there for your team.

Exactly. She definitely is not in the form of doing insanely difficult elements, and that could've easily resulted in injuries and probably would have cost her team a medal. She made the right choice.

It IS misleading but could turn out to be true. I don't trust yet that all is well with her PHYSICALLY either. I have not felt comfortable with the explanations given to the heavily wrapped ankles SINCE Classics especially since she stated that she would have don the DYP at Trials but was told by coach Landi not to. She said they were bothering BEFORE comps began and I think there was enough evidence at quals to suggest they were indeed. The next couple of days would reveal more I believe. I want what is best for her and if that means withdrawing from all other comps then I fully support and admire her because I KNOW that would be as hard a decision to make (f not more) as the one to withdraw from the team comp. Either way I wish her nothing but the best going forward.

She wasn’t feeling right. What she does is extremely dangerous especially being the greatest in the world. She’s so gorgeous and amazing and there’s no shame in this. She’s as heroic as they come. She didn’t want to compromise her team. People twist and spin the story like crazy. She hit her head in a bad way. Thank god she is alive. I wish people would be gracious. She knows what’s best.

If you rewatch her vault routine you can see that she froze in mid air which is extremely dangerous. If she had continued to compete she could’ve injured herself. That’s a lot more important than staying in a competition that will come again in a few years.

I think 14 hour jet lag plus the weight of the team and expectations from the world on your shoulders would make anyone with common sense would sit out.

Fenced on a collage team. Fought on torres karate fighting team, Volunteered years on a suicide hotline. Yes i lost myself lots of times cas of all this. Im 58 now and left all that behind. Im happy and free.

yup, usa gymnastics has gone through hell these past 3-4 years with the sexual assault AND getting rid of the karolyis. there's going to be some growing pains while everyone adjusts. those girls were going through extreme mental/physical abuse, the media shouldn't have put so much pressure on them. they did great with everything considered

I’m an advocate for mental health, as I’ve dealt with my own my entire life. I feel that if her mental state has been as bad as she’s stated in prior articles, she should’ve stayed behind this time and allowed someone else who’s worked just as hard to have the opportunity at the Olympics. As you said, no one forced her to go and they were all aware of the rules/guidelines for this year due to the pandemic prior to going. No one would’ve faulted her for missing this years and taking care of herself. Just my opinion

Maybe she thought that was ready and fine to compete and during the competition she developed more struggles. One of my best friends has mental issues and there are some things that triggers her, she can seem to be completely fine and out of the blue, in a matter of seconds or minues, she just breaks, and is so hard to help her and make her come back to a better state. I think that is unfair to said that she robbed someone elses possibility to compete like she did it on purpose, like she wanted to let down every single person that was rooting for her. She made that decision and everyone needs to respect it, she already competed in the previous Olympics and we all need to believe that she made the best decision, for her and for her team

I’m sure her teammates don’t feel that way. What matters is winning gold and if Biles felt like she wasn’t at her best mentally then she did the right thing leaving team finals. If she continued on she might’ve scored very badly and gotten very injured for not being in the right headspace.

Have you read about Phelps' issue? He literally said he didn't want to be alive anymore because of the pressure and the expectations people put on him, he wasn't "him", he was what others wanted him to be, he lost his true goals just to satisfy the public needs. Mental health is real.

If Simone continued competing while not being in the right headspace, then she could’ve seriously injured herself. Blaming the her for the team winning silver is ridiculous. She shouldn’t have all the pressure on herself. I’m sure if she was also scored fairly then she would be in a better headspace.

@@xbookwormqueenx she could have easily down graded her more difficult skills just like she did vault (except do it purposefully) or taken some more time to decide before quitting the whole competition? It seems very odd to me that after just a few minutes she quits everything when there is an incredible amount of pressure on the three other girls and they are forced to continue on and compete events that they may not have even been prepared to compete. It's not HER that had the pressure of winning, it's all four of the girls. When one fourth of a team quits, no matter who it is, I think it is safe to say it's pretty devastating to the entire team score-wise. Also I'm tired of hearing comments about her not being scored fairly. It is highly unlikely that has anything to do with it, but even if it does she knew damn well how her routines would be scored before she accepted a spot on the team. It is VERY unfair, I'm not arguing that. But if it really affects her so much, she shouldn't have accepted the spot and quit when we all know how much some other USA girls deserved and wanted to be there

@@xbookwormqueenx I just said it's not about relying on one person, it's a four man team. Each country gets an opportunity to put in four gymnasts who excel at different events. When you remove one of those gymnasts, it puts a team at a disadvantage - no matter who the gymnast is. Idk why you're trying to argue it doesn't

@@brittanymorrow2283 I think she has the ‘twisties’ it’s where you get lost in the air when flipping, it’s obviously extremely dangerous and scary. She can’t just downgrade her routines mid-competition, it’s all about muscle memory. At the end of the day she knows herself and her gymnastics better than anyone else.Her and her coaches made the best decision for her health and for the team (her staying in and falling would be really bad for the team score). She didn’t ‘quit’ on her team, she took herself out so she wouldn’t make more mistakes and then she showed fantastic sportsmanship by supporting them for every step of the way for the rest of the competition. Also she probably didn’t anticipate these issues so that’s why she didn’t give up her spot that she worked so hard to earn.

Her coach said it was mental health issues and not a physical injury right after she exited the competition. That is why people are saying that.

Karoli basically forced that girl to keep going. They were terrified of him and Nassar. She might be a better “Olympian” but Simone is the goat. No one can touch her talent.

Elena Mukhina was a TRUE Olympian too. After she broke her leg, her coaches and trainers dismissed her concerns and pressured her to return to training. Had they listened to her she might have avoided underrotating, landing on her chin and breaking her neck. Athletes know when they aren't 100% and shouldn't face scrutiny when they know better than to risk serious injury. So, for those who believe that Simone is soft, or just pouting because her G.O.A.T. status is in jeopardy, nobody will convince you otherwise. She is still the best though. It takes incredible physical awareness to be a gymnast, and given the high level of difficulty and danger of the skills she performs, thank goodness the headline didn't read Simone Biles exits Tokyo games a quadriplegic.

Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history who pushed herself to do things no one else could do! She has 3 gymnastics moves named after her dipshit! She's out there doing vaults that only men attempt and not being given the proper difficulty increase simply because no one else can do it! Get all the way the fuck out of here! Yes Gabby was treated horribly unfair but Gabby didn't have an ounce of performance pressure on her. Everyone was talking about the failure of Jordyn Weiber to make the individual all around. She's fine. She just cracked under pressure, is all. Had to make it look like a "medical" issue so she got her leg bandaged up. But if that was truly the issue she would have withdrawn from all the individual events but she didn't. At this point having competed in so many world stage events I expected more mental toughness from her. So that's disappointing.
