The reason people feel entitled to comment on their relationship is because Simone’s husband discussed it on a podcast, and did so in an extremely disrespectful manner. At this rate I do wish people would leave the subject alone because their good intentions are now disrespecting her wishes all over again. Two wrongs don’t make a right. That being said, if she wants to point blame, her husband owes her more respect than the general public.
I think honestly it was more his choice of words rather than what he was actually trying to say. He wasn’t in the gymnastics space so of course he wouldn’t really know who Simone is the way a lot of people do. All he knows is football. I think he was joking when he said he was a catch, but he’s talked about how he hadn’t watched gymnastics before they met. He’s been very supportive of her career and he seems like a genuinely good guy, I just think the way he said his statement at the time was not necessarily how he meant for it to come across.

He literally said that she wasn’t his type and that she drove 45 minutes to see him for his first date. He lied about not knowing who she was. Tweets showed later he’s watched her compete in the past. All of his comments together in addition to him saying “men are always the catch” emphasized making her look desperate to be with him. He could have kept a lot of those details to himself, if they are true at all. It very much looked to Many people that he was puffing himself up and putting her down. That’s why people became so upset about it.

I feel like there should be some boundaries when discussing celebrities online but Simone and her husband opened their marriage up to public scrutiny. We knew nothing about them until they wanted to market themselves as a professional athlete celebrity power couple and tried to give relationship advice. Her husband gave a distasteful interview, he doubled down on his views even when the host’s were trying to give him an out to play it as a joke and save face. Simone and her husband exacerbated the situation further online which is why people still talk about them. It’s kinda sad that one of Simone’s past partners went viral for cheering her on at a 2019 Olympics and her husband is on camera diminishing her cultural impact several years later. Simone saying soon she’ll only be known as “___’s wife” in the future is concerning as well.

It’s ok to address a situation and correct it, if you choose to be baited, but do so by leading by example and speaking respectful and set your boundary and then stick to it and live you life. Acting nasty in return only confuses the issue by not distinguishing you as different than the original aggressor.
People need to remember that Simone has been in the public eye since she was 12. She has been coached on how to approach interviews and she has been doing them for so long that she’s much better at navigating them. Jonathan did not get famous until very recently, and he has not benefited from the same training and experience of being interviewed a lot. That podcast was his first big interview, and he was nervous as could be! He was in a room with some of his idols, and his adoring wife, and he made a JOKE. Simone laughed at it, and the interviewers dragged him hilariously for it! People who continue to attack him are bullies. It’s gross.
When people have no life of their own significant relationships, they have a tendency to focus on other people and try to make them as miserable as they are. Misery enjoys company you are outstanding and you have a great support system, so don’t worry about them considered a source and keep moving.

I tried to humble her aka negging her (which is a form of mental abuse) so his reward of his emotional abuse is that Mr. Bile will be forever be reminded of who is: an average athlete and a minor celebrity.
