All I can think watchung this was just how badly off she must have been in Tokyo with those damn twisties. Girl had been dropping perfect Amanars out of the sky for six years by that point; could probably do one if you pulled her out of bed and put her in a gym at 3AM. To see this and then look at her TF vault is both terrifying and heartbreaking. Anyone who says she "quit" in Tokyo can kiss it. She stopped before she broke her neck, is what happened.
True, but at the same time she brought a lot of pressure on herself by hopping along the goat bs media campaign. She was under an insane amount of pressure and her and her team should have known better.
@@redraids5394 sure, if you think the attention and pressure of being (objectively and obviously) the best of all time is what got to her. I do not. I think that, because she's so good, USAG put the whole team on her back. Their strategy was "Simone will get a million, and then we'll win by a mile." And even more than that, to return to the Olympics, carrying your team, also having experienced trauma in the context of your sport, *and* to be the only survivor still competing? *Those* are the pressures I think led to the twisties for Simone. Of course we'll never know, but that's what I think.
@@redraids5394 Wendy said it well. Trauma/PTSD seems like a much more likely explanation to me. The Larry Nassar lawsuit was still pending, and Simone testified before Congress shortly after the Olympics. The last time she was at the Olympics was with her abuser. This occurred in the middle of a pandemic with no crowd and no family, which added to the stress. She said it was the first time she competed without her parents there. Everyone else was already calling her the GOAT. All she did was embrace that in a fun, cute way. I really don't think that her acknowledging the status she /already earned/ was particularly damaging in this context.
Who can possibly gather more than 10 years of awesome vaults in 11minutes besides Simone Biles ? And only one fall, on one of the most difficult vaults ever, that she has been the only lady to perform so far :) This is quite outstanding, a super nice video for sure !
It is hard to explain, but compared to everyone else, she just looks so much cleaner on her vaults, like no leg seperations, pike downs or bent knees at all
The wear on his face over the years is visible, especially in the two years before Tokyo. Strength, health and faith Simone Biles, because you are forever in the history of gymnastics!! Kisses from Brazil!! ;)
simone definitely had power and could get some distance, but vault isn't about distance. mckayla's technique, height off the vault and execution are unparalleled. mckayla's vaults make my mouth drop. simone's are impressive, but not jaw-dropping
Simones technique is definitely better than maroney, I don’t think there was any other gymnast in the history to perform and upgrade as simone biles does
Don't you know you're not allowed to critique Biles in any way? If you're not gonna fall in line with the 🐐 "goat OMG QUEEN BEST EVER YASSSS NOBODY EVER WILL EVER BE GOOD AS HER" groupthink, the stans come for your head. There are plenty of people who share your opinion, but the blind worship is so strong. I got called a "hateful racist bitch" and got literal death threats because I said Simone lacked the grace of classic gymnasts. I didn't say she wasn't amazing- just that she wasn't super graceful. The gym "community" is effed.
@@JennaLeigh Stop complaining, you just jelly because she is winning everything. She still scores higher than the second one even on her bad day. The current Code goes by difficulty and execution, which she is a league better than the rest of the field and that's why she wins.
I love Maroney but I feel like everyone only remembers her TF AMAZING Amanar and thinks that was her every time but that's not the case. She usually had uncontrolled landings although her form in the air and height were to die for. I wouldn't say Simone gets less height, it's probably about the same on average, the execution on their Amanar pre-flight and in the air is pretty Similar too. On execution, if you go by the numbers, you'll notice Simone gets better execution scores on her Amanar than Mckayla did (most of the time). Mykayla simply had a more lean and long body type which I guess people take as prettier. I think it's more Mckayla had a way to make her vaults LOOK like she did the most amazing thing ever while Simone makes them look like she did the simples thing ever.
Her posture is what I find most remarkable. I know nothing about gymnastics but it seems like no matter the position her body is in, whether she’s running at full speed or in mid-air, her back and legs and neck are somehow perfectly aligned - almost like watching an educational animation.
Whenever I saw her vault at 10:37 I knew she could TTY but I think she’s too scared to do it (but she does the double pike so like????) anyway I wish she would do it too. I also think she was able to get that height because she had been training the double pike
Although the double pike is definitely very risky and difficult, the TTY has the higher likelihood of causing more injuries since it requires a lot of twisting and many gymnasts are still twisting by the time they hit the ground. Aliya mustafina injured herself performing an amanar so I imagine a TTY is just as risky even though it doesn't have a blind landing. Simone has actually practiced the TTY and even landed on a mat so see could definitely do it but it may not have been consistent enough at the time
