Join Alex in Houston for an exclusive interview with gold medalist Simone Biles. Simone is here to share her side of the story and what really happened at the infamous Tokyo Olympics when she withdrew from the team competition and shocked the world. She opens up about the trauma that led to that decision, what nobody knew was happening behind the scenes, and how she thought her gymnastics career was over. Simone gets real about how the nation’s backlash affected her mentally and what it’s taken to get back into the gym. She also discusses her decision to come forward about the abuse she endured under the former USA Gymnastics physician and how she’s working to heal. Simone talks about her early years in foster care and how being adopted completely changed the trajectory of her life. Then, Alex asks the question we’re all dying to know… Is Simone going to Paris? Finally, Simone gushes about her marriage, responds to Jonathan Owens’ controversial viral interview, and talks about how she’s leaning into WAG life. Get ready to know Simone Biles like never before. Enjoy!

Compare Simone walking off the floor to Kerri Strug being forced to vault on a broken ankle makes me so proud of these women finding their voice
@user-vd4mn3lu9e
@user-vd4mn3lu9e День назад
She did not have a broken ankle. Kerri was also from a different time when people knew the stakes they were at and winning gold was everything. The US team at that games had a myriad of issues as several teammates fell or had issues of their own. Kerri KNEW she was the only hope to secure the win. SHE DID WHAT SHE WANTED TO DO IN THE END AND HAS ZERO REGRETS IN DOING SO.

Great interview. It’s mind blowing 🤯 to think she was thinking of twitter when us actual gymnastics fans were thinking of former gymnasts like Sang Lan or Elena Mukhina. The people who knew anything about gymnastics knew what had happened. It's interesting to learn what the lead up had been during warm-ups but that makes sense. I just wish the twisties would have been explained at the time. And now she just explained that it had to be categorized as an injury of some sort so that the lineup could be changed. Some people fortunately understood after the twisties were explained to them but I still know people who refuse to understand the reality of what was going on. Of course the discussion has come up again since the Olympics are coming around again.

Simone made the best decision at the time to keep herself safe. As for nationalism for the team she was competing for, no duh! Despite the fact she made the best decision for her safety, the media exploited Simone's market for drama. I remember outlets questioning her prowess to compete for "USA." Meanwhile, their channels NEEDED her, a black woman breaking records, to help their channels get viewers. Point blank, Simone is an industry who created a market for those complaining about herself. Give her all the time and space.

She shouldn't regret anything. She knew something was wrong, She used her voice and said I can't do this anymore and this is what's happening. For the first time she was able to use her voice and advocate for herself and say "I am not on my game, I'm not mentally where I need to be." Then she still showed up for her teammates but in a different way. She was the biggest cheerleader. She was there supporting them. She has nothing to feel guilty about. When that happened I felt it was a testament to her physical conditioning that she was able to land on her feet. I felt so happy that she was able to have the freedom to say, I need to stop. I guarantee you that prior to that, she wouldn't have had that freedom. People did the same thing to Mikeala Shiffrin when she kept skiing out of her races in Beijing. They blamed her for the camera being on her acting like she wanted all that attention on her when she was sitting on the side of the course. These athletes might do things that are out of this world but they are human.

@joyfuljaj
@joyfuljaj Месяц назад
The way she described that was confusing because Jordan had already vaulted. I think maybe she meant that if she had tried to force the more difficult vault then she could have gotten hurt and yet that score would have had to have counted. What I was thinking that she meant even though she referred to vault was that if she tried to continue and compete any other event she would have risked injury - with a low score that would have to count. Maybe that was a response to people saying that she shouldn't have withdrawn but if she wouldn't have withdrawn they couldn't have put Jordan in any of the other lineups. Maybe?

Okay so let me break it down for you: The team finals at the Tokyo Olympics were 3 up 3 count. This meant that EVERY ATTEMPT counted. In older formats, it was 5-5-4, meaning that all five gymnasts competed, and the top four scores were counted towards the team total. Simone is saying that her name was listed under EVERY apparatus and that they had to sub her for Jordan for bars and beam, who was the team's weakest on those events. If they didn't sub Jordan, the US team was risking medal contention because Simone messing up in another event would knock them off the podium. It 100% would have been much worse if she didn't withdraw.

It doesn't make sense in this context. If she "took one for the team", the team would not have won a medal at all. If she had stuck it out, her scores would've been low and they would've counted towards the total thereby bringing it down. From a purely competitive standpoint, her withdrawing was the best thing for the team. Her vault score alone was more than 1 point lower than it should've been meanwhile Russia was RIGHT BEHIND them. If she had put up low scores like that in the rest, there would've been no hope of them winning. Try to understand.

@@dontbabyme Do you realise that this sport exists outside of the Olympics? And that the Tokyo Olympics was 3 years ago.. now China has 2 7.0+ SV routines on bars and beam this year and US' only 7.0+ routine is Simone's floor. Since you're so simple minded, let me break it down for you. Other than the US, the gold medal contenders have changed literally every quad (we're in the 2022-2024 quad since you're so un-knowledgeable). In 2008 it was China vs US, 2012 Russia vs US, 2016 no competition really and 2021 Russia vs US. Competition changes with time and the CURRENT state of gymnastics in Russia isn't as strong as it was.

Simone had said she was experiencing the twisties WEEKS leading up to the olympics. But she refused to step down and give up her spot to another athlete who could have performed better (for the team). Why? ENDORSEMENT MONEY. She put her own monetary benefit over the team. And now to make it seem like she's the victim is laughable. Let's keep it real this was all about her endorsements and that Wheaties box cover. I dont blame her for having the twisties. But i blame her for not removing herself from the Olympics team. She put herself and her endorsements over the team. No one should feel sorry for her.

She never said that and that wouldn’t even make sense considering she was performing well domestically and in the Tokyo QF bffr.

Ugh she is such a bratty diva. Her success got to her head and she changed so much. She dropped out and then had.the audacity to tell MyKayla Skimmer that she has to be committed if she wanted to join her tour post Olympics.

@@vagirl19 OMG ok I get that you don't really understand gymnastics so I'll be patient: Yes, Simone was their best player. The team was ENTIRELY dependent on Simone putting up her usual high scores. Even before the Olympics, folks on Gymnastics twitter were criticizing team USA for its overreliance on Simone. At this meet, they had her up on ALL FOUR apparatuses which underscores the point. It's not "BS" by any stretch of the imagination please try to understand and stop wearing your heart on your sleeve about it
