@Ilfordphoto
@Ilfordphoto 3 года назад
I often wonder if people shot by street photographers ever see their images printed and what they make of them. I'll mention to Simone to have a look at the comments on here and see if he responds. Do you shoot much film yourself Stefano?

Thank you a lot! And i noticed that the praktica is german just afther that video, like a lot of people sayed. Im happy to know now. About the autorization i dont do that, but regulary people stop me and ask me what i am doing, and say that is not polide what im doing, especially the people of the bus i shooted stop me. Than i try to explane to them what i am doing and i do with a lot of patience and show to them some pictures i printed in a small small format that i have always with me, and in the 90% of the cases the people love what i am doing and they aske me for prints and smile to me. I think is very important to explane what we do as photographers, and see what the people have to say about our work. I love the people and speack with them.

What bothered me the most about the use of flash in the video is the risk of triggering seizures if someone on the bus has epilepsy, especially since the flash as used here is so in-your-face. The risk of a seizure is small, but it is present and potentially deadly if someone chokes. It's not a risk I'd take as a matter of common courtesy.

Thanks for the feedback Trevor. Street photography has always been a genre that people approach in different ways. What one person is comfortable with, another won't be.

All of the videos I see of these kids shooting film, there seems so much grain and reticulation. It's almost like they're destroying the film to emulate Robert Capa who was late for the D Day landings.

I find this kind of gawking incredibly offfnsive. Fair game if it’s journalism and you’re photographing someone who should account for themselves, but this is intrusive and disrespectful. Street photographers: throw a stick and you’ll hit ten of them.
@Ilfordphoto
@Ilfordphoto 3 года назад
Interesting opinion. I know that some people find street photography to be intrusive but it is a genre that has always been around in some form and is important for documenting our social history.

What a unpleasant and disturbing way to literally flash into other people’s privacy. Impertinent. Disturbing. If someone would try to photograph me in such an aggressive way I actually would disrupt his privacy as well…
@Bartuul
@Bartuul 3 года назад
I'm torn. On one hand his work is amazing. You can clearly see he's inspired by the masters from the old days and one can easily assume any of his photos was taken by one of them. But what put me off was the bus portraits project. The idea is interesting, but I find the approach a little bit to "gotcha!". Getting hit by a flash without any chance of at least asking the photographer "dude, what's up" must feel rather weird. But then again there are street photographers who based their entire career on flashing people in the face point blank, so what do I know. No offence intended though.

@Bartuul 3 года назад
Sure have. As You said - it's always nice to see a different approach, even when it's not the one that speaks to us. I would love to get better at street photos, but I love medium format too much, and being spontaneous with a clunky Hasselblad is not easy. But I keep trying. Keep making videos and keep producing film for us. :)
