Epica Forever and Ever!!!! Simone Johanna María Simons Forever and Ever !!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🖤♥️💋🇪🇸
@@cancelled_user She used to sing with a very lowered larynx to make her voice sound deeper and darker, it wasn't her natural though and it can be restraining and unhealthy when overdone, if she hadn't changed her technique her voice might have been damaged over time, also she is a lot more comfortable singing in this more natural lighter placement for sure. Also she have told already a couple of times that she was very much inspired by NW and Tarja in the begining and so she was probably trying to sound darker cause of this, Simone is a Light lyric soprano and Tarja is a Spinto Lyric Soprano, vocal type wich naturally have a heavy darker voice.
@@Marcusrafaelfet Yeah, allegedly one of her early vocal coaches told her she was a mezzo, so she tried to sing like a mezzo. Not sure how much true is in it, but still, I like that young Smoon's voice. Very unique and almost ethereal :)
The two versions are spectacular! Simone is a Goddess, since my experience I think that Simone sang more lyrically in the 2004 version In a way more similar to opera... In the 2020 version Simone doesn't impose so much her voice
Why did she changed her style of singing those old songs? She's not capable of doing this style anymore? I've always asked myself this and didn't come up with an answer.
Apparently she had an infection in 2008 which damaged her voice and her body to a degree that she could not sound like she used to anymore. Source; www.blabbermouth.net/news/epica-singer-infected-with-mrsa-band-cancels-shows/
After her pregnancy, her voice changed a lot,but in a good way in my opinion. It's true that her opera style is lost, but now her voice is stronger than ever. Let me give you an exemple:TIDES OF TIME Well ten years ago,Simone did a good job singing "Tides of Time" but now,in 2020,she sounds magical. Her voice is magical singing Tides of Time. Soo yes,it is true that her old style is lost, but enjoy her new style because it is better :)
Actually, she has improved a lot. In the past, she falsified her voice, 'cause her ex voice teacher had convinced her that she was a mezzosoprano. But, actually, she is a soprano. Now she sing with her real voice, without darken or "intubate" it. In addiction to this, Simone stated that she now prefers to use operatic voice only for some particular passages (mostly high notes and/or with "majestic/epic" vibes) and for choirs, 'cause modern pop-rock style gives her more flexibility and freedom. In fact, the entire Epica's sound now is more modern, without the "medieval gothic" touch. In recent years, in Germany, Simone studied with musical theater vocal coaches. She also loves listening to radio-friendly pop and jazz (about that, she has been talking for years a possibile jazz album with her husband), so this probably influenced her.
To add on to what Michele said, Simone in 2004 had knödel: a technical flaw caused by incorrect tongue positioning, making her sound froggy and darkening her tone artificially due to a depressed larynx. (This is what caused the "mezzo" sound.) Notice how the EE vowel in "memory" at 1:04 sound muffled in 2004 but clearer in 2020? The vowel clarity alone makes her objectively better now compared to before.
