A simple isolation amplifier with our new isolator evaluation boards. This is a popular application for NVE's four-channel isolators. A sine wave is reconstructed and isolated for the demonstration.
An Arduino is connected to two four-channel isolators. An R/2R resistor array serves as a digital-to-analog converter for the isolated output. The gain is set by a thumbwheel switch.
Because these isolators have rail-to-rail outputs, an R/2R resistor array is a viable option, and a D-to-A IC may not be necessary. The resistor array only costs about $0.15 in volume.
Important features for analog isolation include:
* best-in-class isolation voltage and the world's highest barrier resistance;
* low power;
* level shifting; and
* rail-to-rail CMOS outputs.
