In this video, you will learn... how to wire simple automatic changeover switch,
it is suitable for both generator and inverter power.
Components
1) 2 contactor
2) pin relay
3) timer(on delay)
4) 2 control mcb
The Generator contactor is being controlled by a TIMER(on delay) through normally closed of the RELAY(controlled by the main), through normally closed off the main contactor to the coil (generator)
THE STATMENT ABOVE GIVES US DOUBLE INTERLOCK.... which is good if your contactors are not INTERLOCKED MECHANICALLY

Thanks for the video sir but pls, could you be more delibrate in mentioning the NO or NC terminals of your connections. Just mentioning or seeing the device alone can be very confusing cos unlike an image, we cant zoom in on the connections . Again, could you change the timing positions of those images cover the screen or kinda pause while they are still on screen sir? Its still a great video ,thanks

this is a great tutorial, if only it was more clear on mentioning NC/NO of both contactor. Can you have a setup with both contactors (maybe with NC Aux on both) mechanical interlock and electrical interlock with a delay timer "ON" for the main. I am wondering when the main source is on and delay timer is activated, during the delay time (say 5 sec) which NC AUX would open or close even when the contactors are locked mechanically? during the delay time would there be electricity coming out from either source or would it be complete cut off on both ends of the two contactors?

Nothing, you can do without it, but if you need more capabilities Like panel indications, generator signal, mains as priority, more interlocks then you need a relay.

The chances are really low for a component to fail under normal working condition, Most component fail if they work under strain example extrem tempereture,short circuit, contacts overload,overvoltage,undervoltage etc.

The wire that passes through the relay that is supplying to the main contactor, is it passing through the auxiliary contact of the main contactor? Or the coil?

No, through the relay, through the auxiliary contact NC of generator or backup contactor to Main contactor coil.

My generator is set on auto but it won't switch off when mains supply returns but the mechanical interlock is working fine

First try this, put your generator in off mode disconnect the auto cable from the change over switch(ATS), put generator back to auto mode and short the auto cables, in this case your gen should be running. If yes disconnect the cables which will put you gen in cooldown for 3 minutes before the engine shuts completely. Now if everything said above is true, then there is a problem with the changeover.

You mean analogue timers?....... yes why not. so long as it's function supports your curcuit.

Sir sorry does it mean when you interlock the contactors mechanically you don't need to makes use of Aux and relay.

Mechanical interlock is good and strong But they can fail. For safety reasons use all interlocking mechanisms available. so yes you need to use your AUX and RELAY

A generator has a signal cable that connects through the Main power relay. There are 2 types of signal closed and open......when the main power goes off the relay sends a signal to the generator by either closing or opening the circuit.
