Thanks. Got back in the habit due to it being a nice past time and test of my brain's empty space thanks for showing the variations. The anchor points are a good tip so my drawings feel like they have more depth and a bit more realism in it.

I’m preparing to do a HUGE drawing of a murmuration. I want to use toroidal shapes formed by the individual birds--I plan on applying this tutorial to those shapes, with the individual birds arranged as the substitute vertical, horizontal and diagonal cross hatches--you have helped me visualize this process and how to go about preparing the shapes and applying the proper bird values to accentuate them …..thanks!!!!

This was really helpful I tend to shade rather haphazardly and wondered why some of my shading looked better for some forms and worse for others.

I'm teaching cross-hatching shading to my art students on Wednesday. This is a great visual of what I want to show them!

This is perfect. I was looking for the examples on the curvatures. I do have a question though. If we are hatching say a finger that is curved, or in a fist. the direction changes. I find my hatching looking very strange when the direction changes. How do I hatch elegantly or seamlessly? I need to look through your videos on building values too. I'm pretty bad at it now

Q: if you’re converging Horizontal strokes toward the vanishing point, shouldn’t you also make the vertical strokes get closer to each other (denser) as they go back in space on a plane? Similar to how light posts look like they get closer to each other as they go away in space. Superior video, as always!

Mr Dunn, I have been struggling with contour lines, of actually getting the intended curve in them, even though I am practicing exercises and drills. So I am digging through your videos in hopes of finding some help with that - and come across this video. Which isn't actually the answer to my issue, but wow it addresses another issue I have also been grappling with. If I work in ink and watercolor, and I like to have the watercolor quite strong in terms of value and saturation, do you think I should use less ink lines? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I love your art and tutorials man but... I'm sorry to say that this one is quite, I don't know how to put it in the nicest way... not usefull much... These days I've been practicing inking while following your tutorials, as a warm up to help me get me back into it, since it's been a while for me... I'm not saying that they aren't helpful, just not teaching much... You kept explaining the same concept over and over and over again ... That damn square and ABCD... It's something simple, most of us I believe got it from the get go... I was hopeful to watch this "second part" and see a more in depth explanation but it's the same lesson/simple concept. Not that it isn't important to practice these simple exercises, but I don't believe that they needed a two part, over twenty minutes each video of in depth explanation... I think it would've been much more interesting if you took it a step further and continued on just like you did with the pear exercise at the end. Show us the order in wich you put the hatching :horizontal, vertical, diagonal at times. I believe that that's where it gets confusing for us: when we have to choose the direction in which to add the lines, because shading squares, planes, cubes and cylinders is quite straight-forward, especially small, quick scribbly ones... I hope that what I wrote doesn't come off as rude, I'm just dissapointed that I followed two long tutorials that taught me nothing much...It didn't go anywhere, if I'm being honest the second part and some 10 minutes from the last tutorial can be skipped entirely... I love your art and hope that the quality of the tutorials could be improved! If not, I guess the book you published is more than enough and should be the reference material to go to next!
