Drain flies can be removed by putting 1/4 cup of salt, 1/4 cup of baking soda (mix these two) in your drain, then add 1 cup of vinegar. Stopper the drain and flush with boiling water the next day. You may need to repeat this a couple of days. I usually add a squirt of Dawn or Lysol to the drain, after the dry ingredients, before the vinegar.
I'm no engineer nor water person thing, but can't you just put window mosquito blockers net thing inside the drain? Or will it block the water in a way?
@@LeoBoxGaming I don't know what window mosquitoe blockers are...so you mean a screen? In theory a small enough screen would work, but household drains have drain stoppers in the middle. So you can fill the sink with water. So I don't know how you would adfix the screen securely.
Made a cup of coffee with sweet creamer and didn't know I had a couple drops of my coffee on the counter. I went back to the sink and there's was a bunch apparently drinking the coffee. They'll eat it drink anything apparently. I know they are hungry because I've been depriving them of food.
Thank you so much Rebecca! I had what it seemed like an infestation in my kitchen. I placed 3 of the bottles around my kitchen. As soon as I placed them I saw the flies starting to get attracted to it. After 2 hours I check the bottom of the bottles and half of them were already there! I left it during the night and I just woke up and we are flies free. Thank you ❤
what part of the video is that? The only song I hear is used at the beginning of the package and that's "tubular bells" from The Exorcist soundtrack (Exorcist theme)
Crazy how well it worked. As some others said leave space between the bottle top and the amount of apple cide you put in. Also I happend to add allot of soap so you’d have to wait for bubbles to go down before and flys start going in so use the amount of soap recomended. All in all it cleared my room of fruit flies
Thank you so much!! I had a ton of fruit flies because I put old bananas in the bin, stupid I know, but literally all of them are gone! For what it's worth, I actually had more success without the "trap" element. I just used bowl and it worked much better than the cut bottle
@@RHathemomentcan you use regular vinegar? I have literally EVERY kind of vinegar BUT apple cider I have rice vinegar red wine , balsamic, and white do you know if I could sub with any of those? I might just try plain but I did get rid of the whole container of cuties there was one bad one and they just came out of nowhere gross 😂😂
@@emilystubbs5650 thank you so much!! I’ve been doing other stuff and I got rid of ALL the bananas I had that helped but I’m going to try the rice one tonight, I appreciate your response ♥️
I tried this & it worked! The first day it caught one…then day two I checked my trap and saw several…so happy I tried this very simple, yet effective method!
*Dont use this methode anymore! You should not Kill!!!!* There is a better wy, get a cup or something and put in a fruit like a apple or cherry or some other fruit, make sure fruit is juicy, and put it in, then above aluminium foil, close it and make some holes, you can also use another foil than aluminium, then put it to the kitchen, dont add any soap or so, you dont need soap, and then use paper or something for the next day, be fast and put it on top of the cup when there is no fruif fly above and bring them outside and let them go fly away!!!*
@@BelieveInJesusChrist. Come on, fruit flies are literally household pests, and they barely live for two months. Their own insignificant lives dont even mean anything to them, get over yourself and your soppy behaviour
OK, just finished making this and setting it out....well see. However, I don't see how it's any different than those little traps with the holes on the top with apple cider inside? I use those but it only catches a few everyday, not even close to all of them
If I don't have a dishwash liquid...can I use liquid detergent

If you do that and it do not help so much, it may not be fruit-flies but a similar looking insect with a similar life cycle living in and around indoor plants, they lay their eggs in the soil and can be very hard to get rid of, but you can buy maggots that you but in the plant soil that eat those eggs and stop the cycle.
This did nothing for me. But what did wonders and got rid of all of them was this sticky trap that you put on your windows. They are clear so it doesn't look ugly or noticeable but man they really work! Ive caught all my fruit flies and some moths and flies
I use paper or plastic cups and put in apple juice and a little alcohol. Then a stretch Saran Wrap over the top and secure with an elastic band. I'll poke 4 or 5 holes with a toothpick. Or use any small amount of fruit of any kind alone in the cup..
Needs to be some sort of fruit or sugar based liquid. Apple is a fruit and rice is not so they will not be attracted to rice vinegar. You can also do fruit juice if available
It's supposed to be above the fluid level, otherwise the flies can't fly in. She just wasn't paying attention to what she was doing because she was making a video for TV.
@@destinyandpurpose The Dunning-Kruger is strong with this one. You make it into funnel so they won't be able to get out. She even says that in the video. Something tells me that your "destiny and purpose" is trolling people.
How many fruit flies have you caught? My point is that cutting the bottle is not absolutely necessary for it to work. And as for "something tells me" you really should not listen to that voice, it has caused you to make a false statement that appears to be ignorance at its finest.@@GrantSR
Any dishwashing liquid will work. Just don't overdo it. The idea is to break the surface tension so that once landing on the surface the little bugs sink at once before they have a chance to escape drowning by flying away.
I have traps with apple cider vinegar and dish soap and the fruit fly doesn't get near it the fruit fly has been living longer than fifty days four months I tried spraying it with my bleach cleaner and it didn't work and it has been growing I'm worried because I have a baby guinea pig scratching his ear there is no way it could be laying eggs because there is no other fruit flys just one so I don't why the fruit fly would be bothering him
I think maybe you should Google "fruit fly" images. Fruit flies don't show up one at a time; it's usually 100 or more. These guys look like gnats; only 2 or 3 millimeters long. You might be looking at a house fly.
@@curiouscharacter1 there was a infestation in my house and I was spraying a bunch of them with bleach cleaner and it was killing them the female was the only one left and I knew it was a female because it kept laying eggs in my guinea pigs ears my boyfriend started cleaning my guinea pigs ears with peroxide and cotton swabs and she was flying above the cage watching him and then it started flying around my house from room to room I saw it inside my bathroom one day on the wall above my toilet and I sprayed with the bleach cleaner and it didn't die that guinea pig died that is why it wasn't flying around the cage anymore we got a new guinea pig and it wasn't bothering this one because it was the only one inside my house three weeks ago it started flying in my boyfriends face and he killed it and I do know what fruit flies look like I had a big infestation going on in my house
Didn't work AT ALL! Frikin flies where sitting right above it and didn't even think of going near it.. I gave up on this after 3 days.. Not a single one :((
Don't let the neck of the inverted bottle touch the liquid as in the video! as the fruit flys can't get in past the liquid leave at least 10 centimeters gap 👍😊
Ok, so for the past 3 years every summer I get the pleasure of going to war with these little bastards. The apple cider vinegar method does work but there are some important things to understand. 1) Flies only go into these traps if they have no other choice. No other option for food. Gotta keep kitchen, trash can, and drains crazy clean. 2) Clean the trap daily and put fresh vinegar in it. Otherwise, it will stop working. Also, not a bad idea to swap out baits from time to time. I found fruit juice to also perform exceptionally well. 3) Try to avoid putting loose food in your trash can if you can. Stuff things that are likely to draw flies into large air tight storage bags and then toss in the trash can. Makes starving them out much easier if you're already keeping the kitchen clean. If you can't keep loose food out of the trash can, double bagging your trash so any that may have started breeding in your trash can get trapped inside and can't get out to infest the outside trash can. This is important because if they infest the outside can they will just come into the house from outside. Especially when the trash is collected weekly. Hope this helps.
You're wrong. I left some vinegar (no water) with a drop of soap out on my counter, the next day I counted 30 dead fruit flies. Out of maybe one to two hundred that formed when I went on vacation and left fruit in my garbage can. I started leaving out 2 traps and they were all gone in a few days.
Those flies eat meat as well! I forget to put some leftover fried chicken in the refrigerator and several days later those things laid eggs all over my leftover fried chicken as I saw their little maggots wriggled all over the leftover fried chicken! Those things eat anything!
Exactlyyy dude. I lost my patience when i ate a cereal and one of those fckrs flew insidee. Since then i've been hunting them using a broom and baygon spray if u know what that is. but there were still alot of them, so i've been searching on how to make a trap for them😅😂
Dude fill your sink up with cider vinegar water. Dish soap drops and put a lamp over the sink where it’s directed to illuminate sink. Do it at night turn all your lights out, except for that one lamp. They will come to it
You don't have to kill them. You can put a slice of lemon inside a tall glass (the taller the better) and lean a piece of card (to block them from seeing you when you catch them) on one side of the glass. When they are in the glass, slowly surreptitiously cover the glass with them inside while standing behind the card / from their blind spot and then release them outside your home. it helps to have a narrow top of the glass and to partially cover so there's less time used to cover the glass and for them to notice you. Try not to have them notice you otherwise of course they will learn the dangers. Try to take as many of your fruit flies in each evacuation for the same reason of less of them seeing the trap strategy. Clean your bin! Easy win. Do this at the beginning of the season so it doesn't become a problem.
Guess what doesn't work? No, come on...guess. I've tried every method for this including store-bought traps using soap and vinegar (didn't know that's all it was). NOPE! Tomorrow, I'm buying fly paper.
Humans dont be fools: *Dont use this methode anymore! They will fly right back into your house. No house is tight enough to keep fruit flies out! The only thing that keeps them out is to change the conditions that brought them in in the first place.
