I built two new beds in my old caravan during the renovation, one which was a single and the other a double bed. The way i built them was so quick and easy as well as being light weight, strong and inexpensive!
I used a 20mm aluminium box section from Ulrich Aluminium that is simple to cut and join with plastic joining pieces. That was what i used for the bases anyway. For the bed frame with slats i actually just jumped on Gumtree & Facebook Market Place and found beds people were giving away cheap or free. I hinged those tops to the frames I made, added some gas struts and bobs your uncle!
