Hello :) I got some live Kefir Grains almost 5 years now, feed it every day with only milk & we got fresh & healthy yoghurt & kefir daily. Are you interested to get some live kefir grains?

I started years ago with a yogurt maker. That works fine, but of course isn’t actually necessary, as Anje show us. Just to provide yet one more way to incubate fo anyone interested: I put my milk + starter that I’ve mixed together into a couple thermal containers (a YETI drink container, a Stanley thermos, a no-name plastic thermal container). Then I put those into a thermal picnic bag I have. It seems to maintain the necessary heat for as long as I need it to. It may be overkill to have both the containers AND the bag, but I don’t want to mess with success! It’s a simple solution if you have those items available.

I just started making raw yogurt at home. I use a heirloom mesophilic yogurt culture, and activated it with raw milk (no heating). Then all I do is add raw milk to a jar, and mix in a tablespoon of starter or raw yogurt from the previous yogurt batch per cup of raw milk straight from the fridge. It sits on the counter and turns into yogurt in a day or less! I often use my old yogurt jar, and it ferments faster. Just need to make sure it’s not contaminated. I often alternate between cow’s milk and goat’s milk, and both works!

When I grew up we used milk fresh from the cows and set it in an open window for an hour or so to catch wild cultures, it only worked in the summer months and it was 'hit and miss' but when it did work it was always a special treat. We called it Dicke Milch. We now use the Instant Pot to get the same result every time.

It is great to make that kind of video about simple things! Most people don't even know how little work it represents 😊. I have started making my own yogurts last summer, after years thinking about it! In France, yogurth makers is really easy to find. So I brought one back home ! All I have to do is warm up my milk, mix my ferment in (I do find it too sour for my taste to reuse a previous yogurt) and program the machine. My kids love it! Making my own yoghurt also makes my live easier... I only need to have milk and ferment on hand... Which I can stock upon 😊

Bleib gesund! Beste Grüße von einer Dänin am Niederrhein in NRW 🇩🇪🇩🇰

What are your thoughts about using raw cows milk for this. I keep hearing its very different difficult to find success with it. I am very worried about " wasting" it, as its very expensive where I live. Thank you!
@OurGabledHome
@OurGabledHome 2 года назад
Hi Sher, raw cow's milk is all we have.You can either gently heat your raw milk or let it ferment it a bit longer, not expecting it to set as much as yogurt from pasteurized milk. Hope this helps 💛 ~ Anja

I made yogurt from 1 gallon of whole milk and 1 cup of my homeade yogurt.( Which was almost like Greek yogurt .) following your recipe. And poured it into 8 jars .placed it iny oven with only the light on.. waited 6hrs. It came out soupy. Tastes delicious. But why is it soupy. Instead of almost like Greek yogurt, Like my last batch. 1 qt.milk to 1/4 cup greek yogurt . Did I bring it out too soon? Did the store bought greek yogurt make that much difference ?
@OurGabledHome
@OurGabledHome 10 месяцев назад
Greek yogurt is oftentimes just strained regular yogurt. You may have to let it sit longer before it properly sets ~ Anja

i see you put it in the oven with plastic lids on the jars, is that safe to do so, does not harm the lids?
@OurGabledHome
@OurGabledHome 3 года назад
Good question! First of all, the lids don't touch the yogurt but more importantly, the oven is only set to 100˚-110˚F degrees which is not enough to harm the lids 💛 ~ Anja

Anja, I have a bit of a problem. My Joghurt didn't ferment. It stated the same constisency as before Hand. Just the Cream Rose to the top. I don't know what happened I am also not sure if I could try again. Did you have any ideas what I could do with my half joghurt/half milk product? It doesn't Taste like milk but it's also too runny to be called jogurt.
