My first watercolor teacher back in 1996 taught negative painting... to those of us who really were interested. She was fabulous! So many of the students were not, and she quit. BUT she was perfect for me! We did trees and hers were similar to yours. Mine, still have it. I think if I had a photo of what she was doing, I could have figured it out better. Thank you!
@@lorrainerimmelinwatercolor I is very helpful! I have a short short-term memory and if I cannot replay things, I am left wondering what I missed. You have a great way of explaining it.
I've started with some negative painting recently and I love your videos you teach very well, can you advise the Watersoluble pencil that you use as most of the ones I've looked at seem to get darker when you add water not lift away. 😍
Hi Sandra, You are absolutely correct when you say the graphite 'bleeds' out a grayish color. When I'm using the graphite pencils or sticks during a video I am purposely leaving a dark line so the viewer can see the shapes. But when I'm drawing with them off camera I use a light touch so I'm not leaving as much graphite on my paper. Once it's wet I use a tissue or paper towel to lift away the excess gray from the paper. I may have to reapply clean water and repeat this a few times but it usually comes off the paper I really love using them to draw animals. I add only water to the drawing and start the contour of the face or the shape of the eyes. I'm so glad you got me talking about this because I thinks this subject would be useful in a video...thanks for the idea! I added a link so you can check out the Lyra sticks I use. It's an affiliate link to Amazon which means I may receive a small commission but most important is that you do not have to purchase anything. So feel free to check out this product amzn.to/30R3YE7 Thanks for your kind words and I'm so glad you enjoyed my videos Lorraine
@@lorrainerimmelinwatercolor Thank you.....I'm not sure these would be useful in my case as I just want something fine for outlining florals etc.....I seem to always be a bit heavy handed with the drawing because I end up not being able to see the lines if I go to light....I am having a little experiment with my watercolour pencils and outlining in matching colours that I'm painting in. I will look forward to more of your videos. Sandra
