This project is exactly what I needed. We’re adding new groves of lavender and needed a way to water them until they’re established. Thanks for sharing.

Great project! I had a similar idea a few years ago and after about 3 improvement cycles, I have a 55 gal barrel on a skid with the pump mounted to the skid. This is in the bed of my Kubota RTV and I have a switch on my dash with a 2 pin connection at the rear of my cab. I also carry a 15 gallon sprayer and I can switch back and forth easily. My discharge hose terminates in a 3 ft pc “wand” that I stay in the seat and hand hold and extend to the trees/plants I am watering.

I recommend flipping the pump over that way your motor is above the water connections, that way if there is a leak the waterfalls down to the ground rather than running into your electric motor.
@PineyGroveHomestead

That would be a best practice and not too hard to change....thanks!

Thanks for sharing this project. I didn’t realize there were adapters for the totes. I have two, one I want to fill from shop gutter and use for a garden.

Greta video! That is going to be my first project next spring! I fill water tanks and water fruit trees on my 40 acres here in West Michigan, right now I use a 35 gallon tank and it takes along time! Thank you!

Couple of notes: my pump is similar and those rubber foot bushings will wiggle out of the pump’s feet fairly quickly. 2nd note: a smaller hose will not impede the flow of discharge water from a pump; the pump is still pushing 5.5 gpm but the smaller discharge hose serves to increases the water pressure. Visualize putting your thumb over the end of your hose; the flow doesn’t decrease, rather the water pressure increases through the smaller opening as evidenced by the spray coming past your thumb going further ( and possibly spraying Miss Piney Grove!). And you may notice that the fittings going into the pump have a smaller id than the hose. 3rd point: I grew up in the well pump business. I don’t think I would worry about the submersible pump cycling; generally those pumps have a 20-25 year plus lifespan. Think about how many cycles a household with 4 kids is going to generate. The pumps are designed for that. With a lot of water usage, you could also install a larger capacity tank to reduce the amount of pump cycles through the day. I am due for a replacement sprayer pump, though; thanks for the link to the 5.5 gpm.

Great vlog. On your ATV/UTV dumb question, could you have tied/wired into the rear lights. Like would have on the back of a car or truck. As a back up to your pump, there is a transfer pump attachment for portable electric drills. Many RV'ers have this when bringing water to the RV. Those totes are nice I am planning to get several and hookup in series for rainwater collection. The only problem with white totes, you will need to cover or paint black to prevent algae growth.

Yes, definitely could have hard wired onto the UTV. In fact, I may run this SAE 2 pin to an outlet in the bed. Would be easier access than the battery under the seat!

Just grab a 12V bilge pump and drop it through the lid. Those valves on IBCs are designed for a few uses and then they crap out and leak. Bilge pumps are simple and rugged and more than adequate for your purpose. There is virtually nothing holding your pump on that IBC, those label holders can be easily ripped off by hand. To get the most out of your pump, get a non collapsable hose for your pump inlet, you're wasting a lot of the pumps energy collapsing that hose.
