There's always been women drummers. I think Karen Carpenter was the first one to become super famous....but there were really popular female drummers before her, like Viola Smith. I don't think they've 'taken over' though. They're still a small percentage of drummers in the world. Personally, I don't care man or woman - a great drummer is a great drummer!
@@TheHigherVoltage let's say historically drums and in particular the trap set has been played predominantly by males. Many great females though I certainly agree. Karen Carpenter caught my attention in the 70s and was a tremendous musician. Still a favorite. In the 80s there was Terri Lynn Carrington and Sheila E, and the girl who played with Lenny Kravitz (name escapes me) were excellent. But in the past ten years its exploded. Hundreds of girls on social media just ripping. And many very young. Amazing stuff. So my point is just that its great to see this paradigm shift. Just my opinion. And I also agree a great musician is a great musician and I admire them because male or female it takes dedication and practice to be great.

No one close to Buddy. Everyone a distant second.... although I do love Keith Carlock. She's not bad though. Sounds like probably 5000 other drummers in rock bands all over the country.
A lot of people getting their panties in a twist on this thread-is she Gene Krupa? Is she Bernard Purdie? No, but she’s an accomplished drummer on a successful band, playing in front of thousands. The amount of old farts haters on here proves that there’s a LOT of shattered dreams out there. Well played young lady, and continued success
Personally I wouldn't describe her as brilliant. To me, that is a description reserved for only a few renowned drummers. Very good, yes. Mel Gaynor is the only real Simple Minds
Firstly, Mel Gaynor...is not the only Simple Minds drummer because in this concert plays someone else (as in many many others). Secondly MG is not the best drummer in the world just because Jim have said so. However, MG was certainly the most suitable drummer for this super group and his playing in Live in the City of Light was monumental.
Keith Moon had many flaws, but his "Live at LEEDS" performance and recording along w/"the WHO's Next" both were recorded works of Brit HARD-ROCK and "the WHO" Band, true works of HARD ROCK ART
It’s alright . I’ve travelled all over the globe and seen hundreds better than her and way more technical . I still stick to my comment …”I’m not impressed “
Yeah agreed but……I don’t know the context but it sounded like she was playing an extended riff from Mel Gaynors part for Don’t you forget about me…If that’s the case it’s less about the technical anyway, just crowd pleasing and 95% of the audience aren’t going to care if she’s not as choppy as Brian Blade or whoever…she sounds tight and it’s just a bit of fun isn’t it?
Her kit always sounds like shit!! Live or studio … learn how to tune your drums!! … sound man’s nightmare!! Just go back to some live video/audio of Mel … so nice!
Why is a barely competant drummer so celebrated? Gender? Race? For a band who's original drummer was so technically good to appoint a mediocre, at best, replacement is surely suspect? Must have been a very small pool of auditionees.
