This song is so beautyful.......i am happy that i was born in the 70ths and see all those concerts in the 80ths and 90ths....the best time ever.....!!!
Jealous as hell😶🌫️ Was born in 85 and was 11 when Bowie had his best live performance (1. Outside album)… Missed out not only Simple Minds but It kicks to smarts to realize I was alive but missed it.. I would have even settled for the Hours album tour. Talk about feeling ignorant and foolish..
I was never more impressed by a live performance than when I saw Danny Elfman, Bowie or Simple Minds. Jim Kerr doesn’t have the passion/charisma etc that he did back in the day. So although he is alive, sigh.. Bowie was better live but obviously can’t see that. Danny Elfman is 75, so, better get some tickets ; )
This band was so ahead of its time. And this song broke all the barriers. Timeless and Magnificent. So many bands come and go because they don't have what it takes. But Simple Minds will be played decades from now.
Well said. The cacophony that is touted as "music" these days makes me count my blessings that I grew up when Bob Marley, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond were at their best. Sting was great too, with The Police and when they, as a unit, called it a day. These days I see no creativity -- not in the rendition and not in the lyrics.
IIRC, this performance in Wembley Stadium was in either June or July of 1989. Mel Gaynor quit the band (but he came back a couple of times later, of course) at the end of that summer.
So lucky I got to see this tour at the old Wembley.. Watching this again in 2021.. great memories and what a live performance of a great song.. Personally this was my favourite line up of the band.. How about getting this lot back together.. just one last time..
Saw Motley Crue live this year and just saw one of the last live videos from SM. Jim Kerr has all my respect. Probably the best vocalist out there. Most of the others either cash in worldwide tours when they can not even sing their songs anymore. No respect from their fans really. Going to see SM in Dublin in March 2024. I am looking forward to that.
This is so good! The whole record is an absolute masterpiece. So out-of-the-box, so brave, so creative... And it was the time where you always got something extra (special live versions) from the great bands, when you heard them live. Nowadays, 90% of the bands invest a lot of time and money to make it sound exactly like the record.
Love the intro of"Soul crying out"😍"Belfast Child",beau-ti-ful song...great video, amazing performance,best line up!see you 20/04/'21 in Antwerp,Belgium guys!❤❤🎵🎶🎤🎸🎹🥁🎻🔝
From gigging in the Mars Bar club in Glasgow, I saw them play in Dundee, just after Chelsea Girl. Then met them in St Andrews Uni. Always knew they were going to be big! Understatement.
Went to my first Simple Minds concert in Glasgow in 1985, have been to too many to remember in between a dream coming true in seeing them in Verona in 2022, lucky enough to have met Jim and he said to come to Verona. A great man and an awesome band, true visionaries and a class act.
And at 7.25 the man goes yer A crashing beat and the translike reworked melody from the 1900's begin Strings, drums, guitars, piano, bass - on one knows what it is like unless you are there. Rooted to the floor but dancing in fear that you miss something. Senses energized. Jimmy Page? Jimmy Hendrix? No it's Charlie Burchill with the most rock-star unlike rockstar guitar solo. It could go on and on like endless heaven People in their own little world have their eyes shut, next to them others magnetised by the music sucking in every moment with eyes wide open. Simple Minds are a paradox of everything paradoxical As Micks keyboards come in (8.45) this is the point I have seen grown men cry to the power of music. So come back Billy. The REAL emotion starts now. And the girls are crying and Mel's off beat drum is sends you wild. Then it gets epic as the man sings Flesh and Blood. 10.06 it happens. Brian Clough said it only takes a second to score a goal. In one second a note on the keyboard changes you, others hear it and feel it the same with echoes of another off a drum beat, the endless Burchill and Germano rhythmn. Standing in front of the stage it is like a thunderbolt from a beautiful explosion of sound. The streets are cold, tearts run down yet another German's face in the summer sun. And your fathers calling. The man sings you into the end of the trance. Everything good and bad in your life is now lost. You are gone. The streets ARE empty, Its like an alien abduction with everyone knowing they are leaving the planet without a care for their world. And then its over - until the next concert. My life started when I heard Love Song at the age of 10. Eight years later life didnt stop in 89 for music, travel and exploration - life started - it opened doors and sewed seeds for the future. Life listening to the radio is nothing compared to being there, getting lost in a strange city for the purpose of getting lost in music.
Sorry guys, the start of the video is not Belfast Child; it is from Soul Crying Out, one of the most overlooked songs by Simple Minds. But Belfast Child is really stunning!! However, Belfast Child is the Simple Minds' version of the ancient, gaelic tune from Ireland "She moved through the fair" (which is absolutely brilliant, especially when played with Middle-Ages instruments, as in the case of Loreena McKennitt, or sung by wonderful voices like Sinead O'Connor). Jarkaruus M: unfortunately, you're quite right!!
Soul crying out is appropriate because I am sure victims/ and their families of " the troubles " would want to ensure no other family goes through what they went though
Un groupe mythique comme il n' y en excitera plus, tout ma jeunesse, toute ma colère, ils avaient tout pour me plaire, je ne les oublierai jamais! don't forget Belgium, which opened its arms to you from the start! please :(
❤ easily one of the better snag/renditions of She Moves through The Fair. It's such an old song and melody, but they did make ot their own. Respect. 😊❤😊
