44:47 ❤️ Perhaps their best tour ever , 3 hour concerts with a mix of drama , love , politics and rock and roll music . The songs were performed extensively by the great band (with Micheal MacNeil on keys ❤️ 😢 ) and external musicians ( as Lisa on violin ) while Jim was at his best in every way what all made this tour so speciale. 2 nights before this concert Jim fell off stage and the night before this concert i saw them in Brussels. Beautiful memories !
What a treasured recording. Better sound than the Roundhay Park recording. And it has the songs that were missing from the SFY Verona release. Thank you so much for posting.
Regardless the set list (10 from SFY) that was the first SM tour I saw (in Rome) and its in my memory forever. I shall check at my parents house as I made a spot tape recording at that time of the May gig in Rome! was 16, great days! Tks for sharing Dave. Enrico
No worries Enrico, It didn't bother me 10 songs from SFY, it was the SFY tour afterall. I saw 10 shows that tour each one was great. I have a few Italian gigs, I'll put the decent ones on here when I can.
I find that this moment in their extensive career is incredibly good and incredibly underrated. They'd carved an identity out for themselves though many albums of experimentation and then with that under their belt they, with their grounding in a certain identity, throw themselves back into that experimentation again. The song "Kick it In" is such a great example of that.
Love the comment Alan. Massive fan of SM and I'm in the process of going all the way back to see how the journey unfolded and currently at this era. I love it. I'm listening to albums and also live recordings from each subsequent tour. I think it's all about context with SM. It's certainly a fascinating journey and when they get to this era, they are a different beast. I totally love their journey as a creative entity if nothing else. Very inspiring.
Hi Dave…I know I could ask a hard question…but I always hoped to find the recording of Simple Minds gig in Locarno on 9.7.1986 where I was front row!! An unbelievable extraordinary gig in my hometown…to say, the pic in the middle of LITCOL it’s from that gig in Piazza Grande. Maybe…I say maybe…you could find it or know where I can find it! It would be a long living memory of mine to live again with big big emotion. Thank you anyway mate👍🏼
I've been collecting bootlegs for 30 odd years Gianluca, but never seen one for Locarno. If I have it would have been poor quality. But you never know! I tracked down the full Amsterdam 1980 gig on the old sm.com forum which is now in circulation.
Great recording, I saw the boys on this tour at Cardiff Arms Park. HOWEVER I think playing TEN songs from SFY was a bit indulgent tbh! Bearing in mind most of these songs were down tempo in nature it didn’t make for the most uplifting concert experience. Milton Keynes Bowl in 86 which I attended was a much better gig
No need for the sarcasm, I kind of do get the concept that tours tend to promote new product and the likelihood of a fair number of the songs being from that record in the set. Thanks for putting me straight though.
