Simple Minds - Tiffany's Glasgow Scotland 21.12.1982 FM Broadcast 

Please excuse the rant...but I was so very very fortunate to have a special 1982 Gold Dream experience.... had heard Simple Minds 1981 on the ABC (Australia's version of the BBC)...it was a broadcast of a live set of their sensational '81 Australian tour....Love Song & Sons & Fascination roared up the charts..Jim's unforgettable appearance on Countdown with his manbag & sunglasses during Love Song..he was so super chic in those days.......then in 1982 New Gold Dream & another tour. downunder...i was in love with that LP...but to see it performed live was an amazing experience..there was another tier added to their sound...it's very hard to explain...my first show was at Latrobe University Sept 30, 1982, Bundoora, Melbourne Australia....Jim Kerr was ultra cool in those days..Charlie's unique style of guitar playing..Derek, OMG Derek & his thumping bass...Mike on keys..& i want to say that Mike Ogletree was superb on drums.. i think his contribution at this time is underrated..with all due respect to Mel Gaynor..this was my fave simple minds line up...i met Jim after the Latrobe uni gig..the thing that struck me about him was he was happy to talk despite doing a gig..he was a very friendly bloke..a couple of days later i had this amazing chance to see them sound check at Bombay Rock...i hung around one Saturday afternoon in Brunswick Melbourne and the boys turned up...Charlie Burchill had one of his fingers bound as he had cut himself...Derek was really cool and so was Jim..Mike on drums was asking me where he could find a decent cup of tea!..they let me watch them do their soundtrack..they played this incredible instrumental which I cant name but it blew me away..another cool thing was..whoever was at the mixing desk absolutely pounded out a tape of The Dreaming by Kate Bush...Charlie Burchill remarked how he loved it!...their road manager told me to turn up at a certain time later that night..and he got me and my partner in for nothing for a packed sold out show....they were superb...i went backstage that night and chatted again with Jim Kerr as we looked out from a window looking out onto Sydney rd....Simple Minds returned in 1984 to play with the Eurythmics..again i turned up to a sound check..I was behind a fence and Jim came over and said hello....he managed to get me two backstage passes and i saw them yet again..it was such a generous act..i can imagine there are many stories of Jim's kindness...i wasn't as big a fan of Sparkle like the Rain...it didn't have the ambience of NGD...not a put down..just an opinion..but it's great to hear a live tape of Simple Minds in 1982 in their absolute prime & weeks after I had seen them live..so blessed to have that golden, glittering memory..brilliant days indeed..thank you Craig Floyd..

I wish I'd been there. Believe it or not, and I just don't understand how, but I just found Simple Minds in 21; WOW, I really wish I'd been there! Just awesome!!!!! :)

I was there, aged 18. One of the nights I will never forget - 'I travelled' best song of the night for me. Pity they went all stadium rock after this - but I can forgive them - they were great in 1982.

Sound is great, mix is spot on. Keys and bass sound lush

This takes you back to the real sound of the Minds, on the edge stuff. When Kerr's voice was at it's best. The start of king is white is awesome, come on Jim bring this old style back for your fan's their waiting. Keyboards amazing, from the one and only Mick Mcneil. Bring back Mcneil and Forbes your lost without them.

Was this broadcast on BBC Radio One? If not - what was the FM source. Thanks for the posting. I was so disappointed that a NGD concert wasn't featured in the recently released NEW GOLD DREAM box set.
