Love how this had an actual name. My mum used to draw these for me a child to colour, we called it “taking your pen for a walk” x

Reminds me of the artwork we did in 3rd grade back in 1963. We would fold a piece of paper lengthwise and write our name fairly large right on the fold and open and copy it along the fold on the other side and then color in all the spaces. I taught my children how to do this in the 80's. It was fun for children. Interesting!

This reminded me of art classes in the 60s too, where we started with a scribble over the whole page then coloured in. This one here by Lindsay is more imaginative, and a great way to practice shadows.

I know that as a working artist, I forget about how much simple creations can heal. Not struggling with or for perfection. Getting anatomy correct or a true likeness is cast aside during this kind of artwork! I am glad that you continue to show and expose your viewers to so many different ways of creating art! Thank you Lindsay, you are truly amazing and such a generous person. I hope you have a lovely day! Be safe out there.

I really enjoyed this. I think this style would make a great warmup to start an art session. They can be big or small - but it's also a good way to learn about colour theory as well. Thanks & I don't think you were late to the Party....LOL

Here's a link to a beginner video from a RU-vid'r who teaches Neurographica in depth and has several tutorials on it and explains the benefits of it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8Gp2b0LbgjY.html I like to make my beginning line/scribble a word I want to incorporate into my subconscious like: Courage, or Perseverance, or even something I want to "smooth" like Grief. When you finish with all the neuro (wiggly) lines and smoothing out all the crossed lines you can barely tell that the word is there, if at all, and it has soaked into your reality. Positive affirmations are a favorite.

Oh, this type of drawing has an actual scientific name? This is what I like to do sometimes when I get a new set of paints, or when I get out an old set that I have not worked with in a long time and I want to just do something with it to try out the colors and see what it feels like.

Oh now I might have to add intense blocks to my art supplies! I sure do like the fact that they don’t move once you put them down and let them dry. And I love the way you shaded and highlighted. What I see when I look at your painting is mommy and daddy ant with baby ant viewing them from the top down. 🤣

I’ve played with this using colored pencils on long boring conference calls. I know that’s not the intent but it really helps me focus on what’s being said on the call because unfortunately I just can’t seem to do one thing at a time anymore. If I doodle or draw simple shapes or do something like this, it helps me listen to the discussion. Otherwise I’m reading and answering the 300 emails I get a day. Hopeful when I retire I can learn to SINGLE TASK again!

I came across this neurographic art a few months back and thought it was a cool concept. Adding the shadows as you did really pumped up the impact of your piece. You used the perfect adjective “puffed up” because that is exactly what I observed. It totally makes me think of a quilted design. Really cool Lindsay. Love 💕 it Thank you.

This was a fun exercise. Since I didn’t have the bars I used the Inktense Pencils and Caran d’Ache 2 Crayons. When I was getting ready to add shading I looked at mine drawing and I discovered I had an exotic bird in a vest and tie, a toy that hides treats, the kind I used to use when playing with my dogs. There was a creature hiding behind a rock or a branch with eyes peeking out, and big jagged tooth saw. Until recently I only drawn in pencil. I am just now learning watercolor. I did sign up for your watercolor class and recently took your other class you taught using Chromaflow. Plan to go to Blick’s tomorrow to get supplies for the Michael’s class your teaching in May. I will say that’s an extensive list. Looks like I’ll need to purchase the colorfast pencils separately because none of the pencil sets contain more than two or three of the pencils that you’re using. Love this exercise.

You can use the pencils you have, just grab similar colors as you go. Any highly pigmented opaque pencil is fine:)

When I went to rehab clinic due to my illness I pack a big bag of art and craft materials but I ended up doing this style of drawings over and over again. I came up with a zendoodle version where I added lines in the „bubbles“ and made a lot of those, in color or black and white.

I've heard about this but never tried it. Seems like a good way to use some of my art mediums that I rarely use. Also a good way to do art without pressure over a result. Lately everything I try I hate--so this could be a way to break this trend. I particularly like adding the shadows. Thanks so much for sharing! I might even dedicate a separate sketchbook for this work.

I fell upon some you tube videos on neurographic art about 6 months ago. At the time I was very frustrated, trying to work with alcohol markers, colored pencils and waterbrush markers that I had picked up during lock-down. I just had trouble shading and blending to my liking with all 3 mediums. I had a great time "playing" with all 3. It removed the pressure of trying to do a realistic composition and allowed me to just play with the colors and shading. I still need to work more in these mediums but the frustration is gone. This artform is so relaxing I now use this to get my art mojo back when needed.

I tried this recently. The only problem I really had was my black felt marker bled through the paper. I did a neurographic drawing of Australia, painting the various states with pearlescent watercolors, and the surrounding areas with normal watercolors. PS I painted before I drew the lines.
@teebee9735
@teebee9735 2 года назад
Definitely need to use a waterproof permanent marker for the lines and do them first or they will bleed for sure. Found that out the hard way. 🥺

Cool. First time I’ve seen this technique/style. I could see this being very relaxing. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my crafting and designing. I can see this as a style that I wouldn’t need to feel like it would have to be perfect but more random and therefore more relaxing- if that makes sense.

I recommend also doing this as a "sampler" for each individual set of watercolor paints, or pencils, inktense, pastels, etc. that you own, using every color in the set. Apply the colors randomly, in no particular order. For me, it was amazing to really see that overall "look" of each set or brand. I am better able to get the "feeling" of each set this way, better than regular swatching squares.
