This is spectacular. Just spent 30 minutes browsing online for pegboard shelves and it's RIDICULOUS how much they want to charge for these flimsy things! Your tutorial is short, sweet, to the point, well narrated, and super helpful! Can't wait to get building these!

Great idea’s, great, well edited video re: peg board usage. I hate peg board, your idea’s and suggestions open a whole new thought process on how to better use the peg board. Biggest reason for disliking peg board is the junk hangers and hooks designed for peg board use. Thank you for going to the trouble of making and editing your vid. Really enjoyed watching. The basic shelving arrangements are very helpful and concisely explained. I had no idea pegboard was so versatile. I'm just getting started with hand-tool organization and woodworking so this no-nonsense video was a perfect start for me and has allowed me to begin simple and practical projects while actually accomplishing something. What a fantastic video. Basically, you could make all tool holder using L hooks that people are making do french cleats. This is way more easy and simple.
Using L-hooks to make custom pegboard accessories is brilliant. I used this technique to make a great shelf with a vertical support like you showed, then screwed more L-hooks on the front to hang tools from.
Brilliant. My house has pegboard on every wall and tho there are a ton of hooks provided, I wondered if I could make better use of it - and here we are. Thanks for the idea
Thank you so much for the best pegboard idea ever. I have altered your basic idea somewhat by using 2x4 lumber instead of 1X4. I have made 7 modules so far. Hammer holders, screw driver holders, and wrench holders. My original idea that i built so far was using a scrap piece of 2x4 cut off at a 45degree angle mouted to a flat 2x4 with a soup can on it facing 45 deg. Up to hold utility knives and one to hold pencils. Basically I watch french cleat videos and adapt the L hook attachment method to the peg board. There is no limit to the ideas available. WHAT A GREAT IDEA THANKS SO MUCH
I watched this video last night and today I installed a peg board and built some of these shelves. Absolutely brilliant and easy way to get cheap functional shelves!
Just a thought, but a really easy no measure way to line up the pegboard holes would be to use a sacrificial strip of pegboard as a guide for positioning the hardware pilot holes.

Hi Ben, I have an update. I have built my first storage shelf. Like the $8 pegboard tool organizer I bought at Home Depot, it holds screwdrivers. The plastic POS I bought at the store was trying to fall off the pegboard on day one. The shelf I built per the videos instruction is awesome. It's 22 inches long and can hold 24 screwdrivers. I used 6 L hooks, and that is overkill. I probably only needed 4. The shelf is rock solid. I'm now gonna build a shelf for holding rolls of tape. Then, more shelves and more pegboard. These are fun projects.
More efficient use of space for screw drivers over the commercial wire versions, Combination wrenches also benifit from the tighter spacing. I prefer 1 long peg hook for my rolls of tape however. Open up more possibilities for peg wall storage. Thanks for sharing.
I just made my first of many of these shelves and it was very satisfying, the icing on the cake for my new pegboard that should have been in my life 20 years ago. Great vid, thank you.
This could complement French cleats nicely for smaller tools. Could hang pegboard sections on the cleats, though you'd need to space them out a bit to keep the hooks from hitting the cleats.

OK, this is the best pegboard/tool hanger video I've seen yet. I like the pegboard idea but the hangers are pretty much all cheap, look nasty and are too small. This is the way to do it!

I have always hated peg board. I grab a tool, I get a hook. But I am thinking of giving it another try. Your ideas limit the individual hooks! I will definitely give them a try!! Thanks
Fine Video! I have learned now again to do so much better. Metal boards I like better but wooden ones have had to do for long enough. Now French Cleats are on the plan!
Thanks for a good Idea. My first shelve will be straight across the bottom of my pegboard for my growing collection of clamps.... way better than trying hang them on hooks.
I bought a bunch of Talon peg board hooks and while they attach quite well to the pegboard, they don't seem to work well as tool holders. I've now ordered the right angle screws you used and have made screw driver, nut driver holders to use that technique. Thanks for the idea.

This is EXACTLY what I am planning on doing! I am working on a project to use "Lean" principles in my single stall garage to use as an example for my workplace (going to do a video). I've looked all over the big box stores looking for pre made plastic/metal fixtures..but these are EXACTLY what I am looking for! Perfect idea! Got any storage ideas for power tools? I am racking my brain trying to decide how to hang/shelve my circular Saw, a reciprocating saw, and my orbital palm sander....couple drills......
Holy crap Ben, I started to reply to express the same thing. For the larger stuff like a circular saw, nothing beats French cleats! April's videos are some of the best out there for that subject, too.
Go for it! I recently tore out a section of pegboard in my basement that was 3 old pegboard scraps cobbled together, and replaced them with one big new panel... Much nicer :-)
