Do you remember "quillows"? They were quilts that folded into a pillow -- the back side of the "quilt" had a pocket the size of a pillow, sewn on three sides. When you held your mouth just right, and remembered the steps to folding the quilt, it became a pillow ...... these were very popular when my niece (who is now 55+) was small. She loved it because she could take it with her to sleep overs at her Nana's house! Your "quilanket" or "qualanket" reminded me of the "controversy" of what to call a quilt with a pocket on the back!
I do remember those I love those That might have to make a comeback Just saying! Lol Thanks for watching and taking me back to the 90’s (my fav era) April
Love your qulanket! ❤❤❤ Really loved seeing your assistant show off his/her skills...🤣😂🤣😂🐈🐈🐈! Welcome to your new assistant. ❤ Thank you for sharing. 😊🍁🍃🍂🌻🎃
The Quilankets turned out so cute. Love what you used and how you put them together...my kinda Quilting. Of course Oliver is the real star, he was fluffing his bed, so sweet. Maxine is sweet too, she will get used to everyone and everything. You are the sweetest April for caring. Thank you for another fun and great tutorial.
These are great. I love binding like you did in the final two Quilt/blanket! Thanks for the tips about cutting the corners! I didn't know that!!! Glad I know now!!!
Really great quilts! The fabric is darling, and so busy, you don’t see the seam. I will try this technique when I need a fast gift. I also make the self binding blanket, which is also fast. It would be fun to see you teach this method. Like your method, you can use any backing you wish, as well as the top. Again, thanks for your tutorials. You are so wonderful to make us see that perfect is overrated, and that there are so many ways to quilt.
Thank you. My husband teases that since he and I are in the first stage of dementia, we need to travel now before someone has to lead us around. LOL April
I made one of these last month. I made mine using one of the Fabric Cafe designs. It is made with three yards of Christmas design fabric and the back was green fleece. No binding and no batting needed. I did self binding. I'm. not an experienced quilter but it came out pretty darn good. It was quick and fun. First time I ever worked with fleece. Love all your videos. And I eat chocolate.
A new kitty. I'm sure it won't take long before she figures out where the best room in the house is your sewing room. I loved your blooper reel. As soon as I saw the paws kneading the fabric it wouldn't be long befire it was nap time. My old kitty Moody somehow always knew when I was ready to sew and woud run in and do the same thing ftom the other end of the house.
Maxine is coming around. Now if I could just keep the dogs from chasing her. Although she's put Gracie the yorkie in her place. Grace only chases her when Agnes and Pumpkin chase her. Oliver will even come from catting around outside to 'help' me quilt. LOL. Thank you for watching. April
Hi April, glad to see you!!! There sweet Mr oliver😍 Ok girl start your engines and get them done lol 🎄😍. Don't you just love that binding technique I sure do🌠
It automatically brightens my day when I see that you have a new video uploaded. I love your positive attitude and beautiful smile and you're not afraid to be yourself and make mistakes and poke fun at yourself unlike most people nowadays, (especially on RU-vid or any kind of social media for that matter), who try to portray themselves and their lives as absolutely perfect. You're energy and vibes are so wonderful and I can't help but smile the entire time I'm watching your videos except the times I'm laughing 😂. If we had more sincere, caring, and hilarious people in this world like you it would be such an easier, happier, and all around better place to be in. Thanks again for brightening my day😉🌞
Well let me tell you - you just made my day! Thank you for those wonderful words of kindness. If we had more people like you in the world, it would also be a much better place to be! Here's to a world filled with us's. LOL. Thank you so much - BIG HUGS. April
@@aprilscraftroom i also buy throws as the backing, cheaper than fabric. For kids i like the chenille throws, so cozy. For some denim blankets i used worn wool blankets as the fill, incredibly warm blanket.
Thought you had a new resident as I noticed 2 different cats. Love them. I just finished making my grandcat, Loki, a kicker toy. I think he likes it. And of course had to make granddog, Freya, a fleece rope toy!
Awww That’s awesome! Yes Maxine is a rescue! Her owner passed away and the family was looking for a good home for her I’m happy to have her -- she’s shy but spunky Lol April
Aha! Is _that_ what they're called, grandcat and granddog! So much less of a mouthful than "My daughter's cats/dogs"! I'll be using grandpets and grandcats in future! 🐈🐈🐕🐕
These are my favorite way to make cozy blankies for little ones!! It’s not heavy- it can be warm or cool , depends on how tight I make quilt rows!! Great job April!!
Beautiful quilanket! Lovely kitty too…they just love fleece. I took two yards of fleece and turned it into four small reversible blankets/mats for our kitties. Helps contain the fur and they love to snuggle on them.
I love the name Quilanket! I've been trying to figure out what to call my quilts/blankets. Thank you for making me laugh while learning great tips. Oh, love the binding ideas.
Awe April how adorable they all are 😊 The kids are gonna love them. And your new kitty has the same name as my Daughter Maxine 😄 she is cute. I don't know how you quilt that spiderweb so good with Oliver on it that whole time haha. But fantastic Quilankets!
Thank you! Maxine is adjusting well She belonged to an older lady that just passed away and she has adjusted so well Oliver has a girlfriend 😻 Thanks for watching April
I never thought of matching two of the same fabrics together. I see more lighter weight quilblanks in my future sewing. Did I miss you had NO CHOCOLATE ?? 🥹👍👍
I don't know how those turn out so cute with your kitty helping 😂 too cute. I hate working with minky it moves so much. I did one for my son and it's so soft but bunchy. Maybe I'll try again but I think fleece is so much easier to work with. Thank you for always keeping it real.
I actually rescued her kinda! Her owner (a friends mother) passed away and the family needed to find a good home for her so here she is! Besides Oliver needed a girlfriend 😃 Thanks for watching April
Ok first off I'm so glad I'm not the only one that has a cat laying on the fabric when I'm sewing. Secondly how do you use that Minky and not have it all over the place??? I've had the worst time with Minky and I've sworn it off because of it. But, if you have a trick for cutting it with no mess I would love to hear it.
I worry about quilting a tail in there by mistake! But Oliver seems to keep his tucked in safely, he knows what he's doing - and what you're doing. Cats are smart! 🐈🧡🐈
These blankets are adorable but WAY too intensive for us. My mom made Quillows for our family when my sister started having her 5 kids. She even made 3 out of kids' sheet sets, DON'T DO IT, IT'LL DRIVE YOU BANANAS! We just bought 2 yards of 3 different fabrics, 42"-45" wide. Also 2 yards of batting. There are instructions online somewhere I'm sure. She just sewed 2 straight seams, to sew down the pillow part, straight from top to bottom. She did flip style so no binding needed. She figured that she made at least 30 Quillows in about 20 years. If you decide to make one, ALWAYS buy 2 yards each of THREE fabrics. You won't need 2 yards for the pillow but it's insurance in case you decide on switching up which fabric should be front, back, and pillow. Save yourself the trip back to the store for more fabric. Trust me I know 😂
