Hey Tom, I am interested in buying this product and the Canon R (based on your suggestions). If I record live video to RU-vid with the Canon R, and podcast audio with my Rode Pro, how do I sync the audio/video together? Would I have to use the SD card upload, and sync it within Adobe Premiere Pro? Your videos come out so nice/clear (even prior to your Rode Pro arrival)... so I'm wondering how to achieve that good clean audio/video. #PleaseHelp
RIGHT!!?? that was the moment that caught my attention and was all eyes wide open, jaw dropped.... like whaaaa??? that is SUCH an Awesome Tip @Tom Buck -- worth the entire subscription to this channel... oh wait... people get to watch you for free! Amazing! you need a subscription mode -- if you don't already have one. i'd join as a member of your channel in a heartbeat! the value you provide in every single episode = on point! (esp the puns. those have become my favorite. I chuckle every time.)
This video solidified to me the need for the right equipment for the job to optimize your workflow over saving some dollars. Thanks to you I made the Rodecaster and a podmic my go to setup for doing podcasts. Thanks so much!!!!
I have had a Rosecaster Pro for 3 years and used it for live Facebook shows on our business page. We now want to move into Podcasting and creating more RU-vid shows, and you just took the fear away by making this look so simple with the hardware I already have. Thank you.
My podcast recording is record the podcast first, after that I edit it which noise reduce, cut the imperfect part etc, and last, adding background music.
I've landed on a few of your videos now and they're a breath of fresh air. Getting started on a theatre podcast and needed to hear 'just make the thing' - it can be endless trying to get every bit of setup right. Nice work.
@@tombuck Yep. Pet project. Listened to yours, very nice! Mine is here: anchor.fm/basicfilmmaker It’s simply made using the Shure SM7B into a Mixpre3, add an intro and end, done. Check out the one on Money. It’s great to piss people off who don’t like to work. 😂 If it becomes a “thing” I’ll definitely be looking into the Rodecaster Pro. It’s in my cart using your link. 😁
I started with the first episode, but I’ll jump to the money one next 😁 I see you interviewed iSpike- he pops up in my comments pretty regularly so that’s cool to see.
Aloha Tom! I’ve learned a lot from you over the past few months. I’m looking forward to closing out my third career and enjoy life as a “senior citizen” RU-vidr/Podcaster. Your RU-vid content and delivery is just my speed - down to earth and understandable. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for this video Tom! This workflow takes the anxiety out of getting started with a Podcast. I am launching a podcast soon, and I am in overload mode. Watching your video on workflow makes me believe I can do this! Thanks again. I really enjoy your videos!
Yes! The RCP really does make things easy, but not having one shouldn't stop you from getting started. There are so many awesome tools and resources out there that you might even already have 👍
Ayo, sir. This tutorial actually helped me so much during my gaming tournament week, the company asked me to set a pair for the shoutcasters. Since i have never used a Rodecaster prior to that event, i was thinking to check on youtube for anything useful and then stumbled upon this quality channel 👍 Thanks a lot! (Sorry for the english, by the way. Greetings from 🇮🇩)
Literally just discovered your channel a few hours ago and have been watching so many vids. Your channel is so helpful! I think I will try podcasting now thanks to you. 😎👍🏼
So happy to hear it! My only regret is not starting sooner, so I definitely recommend it. Even if you do it for a bit and decide it's not for you, at least you'll know.
Man, this configuration is incredible .... but here in Brazil to buy a RodeCaster Pro is a very high price! I will need to wait for a trip to North America or Europe, when the pandemic is over to get one and make a good installation like this. Thanks for the video! Very clear and didactic .... best regards from Brazil Dude!
Props for the immense amount of work to produce these videos. Quick question: do you have a video on your workflow for making these videos?? I’d really love to know how you do it, how everyone is connected,. Editing, sound,. Etc.
Thanks Aaron! My 10,000 thank you video goes over the process and I’m currently working on a workflow video similar to this that covers it in more detail. 👍
WOW!!! I know nothing about Tech and watched 30 videos on the RODECASTER PRO & Podcasting and None of them explained it as simple as you did🏆 You’re the first that showed the PUASE button🏆 I’m a NEW FAN BROTHA 🏆🏆 By the way my 1st Guest on my podcast will be Michael Jordan and I will give a shout-out to you for helping me understand how to podcast🙏🏻 Do I need to buy a $6,000 camera though? Would love more info on how to do video podcast with Guest. Anyway I can help you let me know🏆
I’m glad it helped! I don’t do video podcasting myself, but I know you don’t need to spend that much on a single camera. I have a video about cameras I recommend for streaming, and any of those would be good for podcasting too.
I want to start a podcast too, I dont have any gear yet, I am certainly not going to buy the gear you are using because money. but here i am watching your videos because they are so well made. They way you explain everything, the gear you use and how to use it, the quality of the video and audio. Keep them videos coming!
Wow, thanks so much! I definitely have a lot of money invested in gear, but it's really taken something like 15 years to accumulate it all, so don't feel pressured to have everything before you can get started. Start with what you have and upgrade when you can and only if it'll actually help.
thank you so much for this amazing video. it is one of the best that I have found on RU-vid. I love it because not only you have showcase the key function, but giving newbie like me a context on how you actually use to fit your busy life and as well giving us the courage to start. Thank you so much!!
I really appreciate that and I'm SUPER excited to hear that it helped give you the push to get started! There are so many awesome tools out there to help make a podcast workflow simple and easy, which is really important when it comes to sustainability. Good luck!
I'm using a Yamaha MG166cx into a Audio Interface then into my computer. I record in Audacity. I am going to save for the Rode Podcaster! I love that piece of equipment. I use Anchor as well. I love how simple it is.
It’s so much fun! I also discovered yesterday that it can be connected to an iPad for recording into GarageBand...and now I have some experimenting to do! 🤯
@@tombuck oh gosh you need to stop! it really is an amazing piece of kit. I will definitely get one and maybe even an EOSR. I really need to stop watching your vids😂😂
Fantastic video! I know it’s several years old by now, but it still pertains to today. My uncle and I just started a podcast about Arizona basketball and decided to just start it. Enough talking about it. We don’t have amazing equipment but we are working up to it. A Rodecaster Pro 2 is in my near future. We also use Anchor
It’s clear you are a teacher. Just discovered you. Love it. Although I DID think you might be a middle school teacher when you said it always made you laugh to say “ Big Bottom” YOU know what I mean. I taught high school art, design, and theater 15 years but I also taught elementary age kids and now teach that age again so I giggle at penis drawings, right? I’m new to podcasting and only in the planning stage. AI feel very lucky to have found you! THANK YOU!!
I'd like to blame my sense of humor on the grade levels I teach, but it's really just me haha. Good luck with your show! I don't have the Q2, but all of the Samson mics I've used in the past have been terrific. I think they're an awesome value!
Wow! I hope you really like it! Be sure and update the firmware if needed. There are a ton of little features in there so take your time exploring everything 👍
Ok... NOW, I've spent the whole day trying to figure out why there's too much noise with the SM7B. It's driving me nuts trying to figure out why. But with the Procaster it's just working well. I followed your same settings (even the one you did with the Live stream with the other RU-vidr) and I still get the same noise/hissing sound even when not recording.
I ordered one of these last night with dual podmics! It’s on backorder but I figure it’s worth the wait. Apparently mid/late summer I will have it all. Hyped!
This is awesome, buddy. Thanks. I’m starting a podcast in about a month so I’m going to be re-going over all of your vids now that they’re relevant to me 😂 instead of just watching you because I like you ha ha 😉
Awesome video! I’ve been using Anchor for a couple years now as I’ve switched my sports talk show from TV to radio and now to podcast form. Anchor is a great platform and I’ve been looking into the benefits of a Rodecaster Pro. Might have to pick one up after seeing this video! Definitely subscribing for more content.
Hey Tom! I'd love to see if you have an updated process since you recorded this video! I have a small podcast that's growing quickly, so I'm looking at every way possible to improve efficiency. Thanks man
Hey Tom, just found your channel. I teach college psych classes online, have done ‘podcast’ audio lectures for years, but started over this year with a new channel on anchor. I’m glad you like anchor as well, and am learning more about how to improve my podcasts, with regards to technique, goals, hardware, etc., so thanks for your great videos! -Jack
So glad it's helpful! I did recently move my shows to Buzzsprout, but that had less to do with Anchor and more to do with me not liking Spotify's strategy to dominate the podcasting space. Anchor is a terrific tool, and should the time ever come that you want to switch, it's incredibly easy.
@@tombuck i agree, I believe podcasts should be open and platform agnostic. One shouldn't need to have a Spotify account to listen to certain titles. I agree, Anchor is great for newbies. Cheers!
Hi Tom. Thanks for your outstanding videos. Your studio set up and look is simply perfect as well as your skill to communicate. I am preparing my Podcast , so thank you very much . U R my inspiration! Pavel
Thank you👍! Tom, I am just missing which kinda SW you use for podcast prep b4 you sent it to Anchor. Thanx for your reply. Any your reccomended video? P.
Dude you just got a subscriber, thanks for all the details you put into your tutorials. Props to you! woud love to have a teacher like you while i was studying communications Keep uo the good work :)
Loving your videos. Two things are glimpsed in this episode that are not on your list - the cover you put on your Rodecaster and what you use for your back up third copy of everything. Would you mind sharing?
The cover is from a company called Decksaver based in the UK. I really like it and it works great! As for backups- once I'm done with everything, I save the podcasts to a folder on an external Samsung T5 hard drive.
Awesome video...I want a Rodecaster Pro as I believe you usually benefit based cost. This seems to be the undisputed winner. Am I nuit's to purchase this when I am not sure of a video channel or podcast theme? Fishing or general or what? Should I start with a maonocaster am100-k1? In any case awesome. I find it an amazing product.
That's a good question. If you have basic equipment ot get started with, that's what I would stick with (a simple USB mic setup or something along those lines). IF you need to purchase gear from scratch and you're pretty sure that you'll be sticking with some form of podcasting/audio production, the RCP is the way to go. I would avoid buying a cheaper option only to end up buying the more expensive one later, as that will end up costing more money in the long run. Good luck!
Hi Tom, having watched a number of your Videos, one particular crucial piece is that you explain as part of your workflow, you save your Audio file from the Rodecaster Pro 2 to the Buzzsprout option which sets the LUFs to -16, then you simply upload it to Buzzsprout. I have tried this, but what I notice is that my Podcast Audio is still lower in volume than other popular Podcasts, including yours (I use yours as a reference loudness). I started using Adobe Audition, and took a flat WAV file out of the Rodecaster Pro 2 (instead of the Buzzsprout MP3) and then used the Match Loudness option in Audition again to -16 and it is STILL lower than all the other Podcasts out there (including yours). I must be missing something, but I am thinking it's helpful for your Audience to know why this is, as I am sure I am not the only one having this issue?! I have a music background, and use Waves LUFs meter all of the time and that always works perfectly to match my Music tracks to the loudness of everything else out there, but for Podcasts and with the guide being -16 LUFs, is there something I missing as to why my Audio is still too low? Your help is appreciated as always and I think like I say, this would be excellent information for anyone else on your Channel and this is my final step to get my Podcasts sounding right !
HI Tom, if you put soft carriage returns into your notes app (press SHIFT/RETURN) then I think Anchor will not put in the hard CR's - I've not tried it on Anchor but it works in other applications
Thanks man. Loving your videos and tutorials. I'm a truck driver and a YT creator as well as a podcaster with a co-host that lives in California while I travel for work. Just pick up the Rodecaster Pro and recorded our 12th episode (In Motion Podcast if you want to check it out 😁) on it for the 1st time. Loving so far. Congrats on the marriage and following both of you as well now. Hope we can talk one day maybe...thx again
Oh, one question... does rodecaster etc work if you have multiple hosts in different locations? I’m doing mine with 2 other athletes in the UK (and potentially even guests as well)
Any reason you don't use the USB cable to do pipe the computer audio in, instead of the TRS cable? Or is that something that was added later in the firmware? I just got my Rodecaster Pro yesterday, and getting the sound via the USB channel works great!
I do use the USB channel more often, but the 3.5mm cable works well if you are also in a situation where you need USB mix minus (like a remote interview where you still want to play music or a sound clip or something).
@@tombuck Oh right, that makes perfect sense! You're right, it's quite likely to have some sound of your computer you don't want to send into the recording - using the 3.5mm channel instead to pipe music is a bit more flexible. Thanks! 🙏
Hello Tom, thank you for this outstanding video covering your Podcast workflow. I appreciate all your work and content that has been helpful in the setup for my new Rodecaster, take care.
Enjoy the tutorials on the Rodecaster and I have a question in regards to how you treat the audio in post if at all. Do you, or anyone else feel free to add to this conversation, feel that it is necessary to normalize the audio tracks in, say in Audition or in any NLE? I'm curious about that because I feel that perhaps it's a step I may be missing.
I have two answers for this one: 1. Yes, I do think it's a good idea for getting the best quality 2. I'm still learning the best way to do it, so I don't always normalize because I feel that my clips end up sounding worse afterwards. That's user error though.
@@tombuck thanks for your input on this. I've read somewhere that it isn't necessary to normalize out of the Rodecaster but I've wondered if some are doing it.
But what about all the 'overthinking', stressing over content, second-guessing everything and changing directions mid-flow, the hours spent removing all vocal irregularities, padding average content with technically cute segues, and 'spot' re-recording in places where you hate the way you sound? LOL. Just kidding. That's me...😏 Great job, Tom! You always make it seem so direct and easy!
Your videos are awesome, new subscriber here. I've already done 50+ episodes but now I want to take it more seriously and am looking to get a set up properly to film too.
Great videos and I love your relaxed and humorous approach. Question: Do you ever play your podcast back to check the quality or look to correct anything? If it needs a little fix somewhere how do you do that.
I do a quick skim to make sure the levels are decent and it sounds good. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to edit and polish and do all that, but I just don’t have the time for it currently.
I've updated to 2.1 it's awesome. When you go to podcast transfer mode and do the transfer do you get the progress % build to 100% twice? Thanks so much for these tips Tom! We're going to modify our process a bit to save about 20 minutes a day! Whoooooohhhhoooo
Hello, you explain everything really well - unfortunately I don't know how to connect the two headphones. I mistakenly bought a USB+ from rode, but only a usb c works on the Rodecaster Duo. So I have to buy other microphones, but the PodMic don't have a connection. I hope that you know the solution and thank you very much!!
