SIMPLE SET - Eight Coyotes - Same Location - in Thirty Days!

This is a simple set we use year round to take coyotes. However, the weather in the East usually creates poor trapping conditions during January and February due to colder temps and high amounts of precipitation, so make some tweaks to the set during those months. We trapped eight coyotes at the same location in a thirty day period using this set. If you'll use this set, we guarantee it will increases your coyote catch numbers.

Good set and cannot argue with your success! What are your thoughts on scent control? I noticed bare hands when using the "dipper" and then leaving it at the site. Gloves back on for remake, and then spit on ground by set. Are the gloves and kneeling pads for keeping YOU clean, or scent control? I myself think scent control is overrated as the coyote is going to know "something" has been there. Good job on catching those yodel dogs!
@biggstimetrapping9323
@biggstimetrapping9323 3 года назад
Lonnie - there are plenty of myths out there. I don’t wear gloves to set traps when it isn’t cold out either. Took a leak many years ago in the snow where I parked my truck. Came back the next day and the coyotes had been all over that exact spot scratching and urinating (most folks wouldn’t believe you can catch coyotes at a set using your own urine 😉). Made me immediately realize that if those coyotes knew that was human urine and they were afraid of it they never would have been scratching around in it. I knew then that people blow the whole scent containment ordeal way out of proportion. There’s no way in a million years that we could ever fool a coyotes nose when it comes to its ability to detect human scent initially left at the set. I know some excellent trappers that smoke the entire time they’re setting with bare hands who often leave their ashes at the set. I also know excellent trappers who religiously dip snuff and spit at the set the whole time they’re there (they say coyotes prefer Copenhagen lol). Now, to the folks who disagree, I am perfectly okay with that. If they feel like gloves and a hazmat suit will increase their catch rate then go for it. Oh, and the kneeling pad is simply to keep myself out of the muck. At the end of the day, I just like to see folks trapping, regardless of what they look like doing it. Just my two cents, but I don’t ever have problems trapping coyotes. Hope this helps.

@@biggstimetrapping9323 you are correct Coyotes are not isolated to the deep forest they are urban dwellers the amount of sents of humans and everything else they smell on a daily basis would not make them shy , if that was the case they wouldn't come within 10 miles of anywhere a human was at at some point , I hunt them a lot and they are the big eastern coy wolfs 45 lbs ave . they are not dumb , I hunt the closest I can to urban areas with legal distances because thats where they are , they are oppritunists ,

Great video sir! I use waxed dirt up here in Canada as our temps get really cold at the end of October. What is the salt you use and the purpose of the dowel on top of your pan while making the set? I do like the idea of the 3 holes vs just one. Is that fox or coyote urine? No bait, just lure?
@biggstimetrapping9323
@biggstimetrapping9323 3 года назад
Waxed dirt is definitely a necessity in certain places. I have some but seldom use it here. I run regular table salt as an anti freezing agent in place of flake antifreeze. Also run stock salt at times. I like to use the trappers cap bc I don’t want anything in my trap bed but the trap and peat. I’ve had different issues over the years with pan covers, underalls, and poly fill. I run mainly fox urine. This set has no bait in it. I like a couple gland lures and a curiosity lure this time of the season.
@loneranger8293
@loneranger8293 3 года назад
@@biggstimetrapping9323 thanks for the reply. I find waxed dirt a real pain and very time consuming and not easy to find fine/dry dirt to begin with. Wax also pricey compared to table/pickling salt. Good luck!!
