For me, at 52, you give the most realistic and practical advice for styling my wardrobe, in comparison to the multitude of RU-vidrs doing this type of video. I've learned a lot.
I totally agree. I’m 53 and work from home but still have kids in middle and high school. I start my day with the school run, then walk the dog, then at my desk for some work and often never make it out of my morning clothes before picking up the kids and moving into the afternoon / evening activities. I love the idea of elevated basics / smart athletic wear that looks like effort went into the outfit but is still comfy enough for the dog walk and working from home. ❤❤❤

I have recently gone back to watch a few of your Masterclass body shapes videos because my mom has to wear a colostomy bag and has given in to very loose and oversized clothing, and additionally it is embarrassing (emotional) for her. I have been able to find ways to help her create more shape and yet not be uncomfortable per some of your hourglass style theories. Thank you for your expertise, you never know what type of physical or emotional situation you are appealing to!
Hello and hello to your mum too! I help a lot of people with stoma bags, in fact we used a lady who has kidney failure in our styling course and she has to wrap a 2 metre tube around her waist so she can plug in to her machine ever night so similar comfy clothing needed there too. It can be done. Yoga pants with the fold over waist band work really well. Best wishes to you both x

Fabulous design information! Thank you♥️ I especially appreciate that you explain that black isn’t for everyone. Neither is white. I’m enjoying chocolate brown and burgundy for my basics. Love golden highlights as well. Textures and angles can elevate anyone’s wardrobe. I do still wear my skinny high waisted jeans with western boots. You nailed it in this video!
Ah yes, my last pairs of skinny jeans have been demoted to dog walks in wellies as well. Best way to transition them out 😂 Love that you pointed out the “black and white always works” myth. Both colors don’t suit me at all, so whenever I come across videos telling people black and white are easy everyday wardrobe staples I immediately stop watching. I noticed I think a lot more about combinations and changeable outfits lately, so your videos do have a positive effect on me. Thanks for that! 😊
Your videos are really next level compared to what else is out there. And here's why: The detail that you put into them really sets them apart. Not only to you thoroughly explain the rationale for the advice that's being given but you also explain how to properly execute it - no one does that. For example, in a different video you were talking about pairing gym tights with a sweatshirt, you then went on to say make sure the sweatshirt is oversized and to go up a few sizes if needed - that's the stuff I need to hear! Otherwise, I'm just pulling any old sweatshirt out of my closet and wondering why it doesn't look right, lol. AND the advice is always practical, which I appreciate. I would love to see a video on fit - I know that may seems very basic but I think many of us buy clothes that we fit into versus clothes that fit us properly (if it buttons, it fits right?). Big thanks to you and your team for putting these videos together!!

Dear dear Melissa ~ thank you for always considering the everyday woman. I'm a short post-menopause apple, so I truly appreciate your guidance. Finding flattering clothes is a challenge, but even moreso having any spare $$ in the budget is a greater challenge for me, thanks to 2 years of unemployment during Covid ~ still recovering financially from that. Perhaps this summer the budget will finally allow me to slowly implement all of these great fashion suggestions! So many brilliant tips but it's hard to know where to start when there's rarely any extra money in the monthly budget. I know that replacing unflattering pieces is necessary to feel better about our appearance. Maybe that's a great idea for a short video ~ "how to slowly rebuild or create your capsule wardrobe ~ where to start." God bless you. May 2024 be your best year yet! (for me too!!) :)
I hope this summer brings some financial relief for you. In terms of where to start, i'd suggest lightening up your wardrobe with a good white/ neutral top - it can make HUGE differences to your outfits. x

Brilliant video! I really missed a video like this where you show tips and tweaks 🤩 More of these please! There are a lot of videos on your channel for plus size women and few for slim women because it is supposedly easier for them to dress but we slim girls still need your knowledge and these tricks 😊

YES! We're finally ditching the skinny jeans!! I am wearing them for years now, because there basically wasn't anything else to buy. But I always found them so unflattering for me. I'm 41 and only now I'm learning what suits me and what doesn't. Mainly thanks to you Melissa!

Short, sweet, and efficient - I give the new format a thumbs up! I'd love to learn more about pairing different styles of jeans with different shoes. In other words, "I want to wear my wide legs today, what can I wear on my feet?" Or "I want to wear my Chelsea boots, what should I wear with them?"
I learned something new- structured versus curve absolutely applies to me and now I know why some pieces work better than others I’m small and round, so having the more angular pieces including jewelry helps give a more elegant look! Great videos! I am desperately trying to not reach for black when I shop, I’ve always used black to minimize my bust and arms but when I see your looks put together I realize my outfits look drab. I also am trying to get away from printed tops, I loved them when I worked but I do feel they make me look a bit matronly now. I am still very active and love clothes so I do want to look as stylish as possible even in my everyday simple life of retirement. Thank you for all your videos and expertise!

You are a genius with style. It is so difficult for me to figure out how to style or upscale an outfit and you make it so effortless. These videos are so great. I'm going to take a picture of every outfit and put on my phone for inspiration which is a new idea for me but I'm getting my act together again at 59 after ignoring how I've been dressing the last 10 years. Part of the reason I have been ignoring style was due to getting a major medical diagnosis however this year I decided it would help to care about my styling again because it makes me feel so much better. My career before diagnosis was business so it was a contrast change not dressing up. I gave away or donated all my suits and dress clothes so they would be used and have another home. Thank you again for providing this advice on RU-vid

You have really made me get out of my comfort zone. I NEVER wear skirts, and purchased a midi skirt to pair with a white t shirt and white tennis shoes you recommended. I LOVE it! I never would have done it without your help!
I would really like to see a video like this but for really cold weather. I live in Canada and there is no way I can go outside with sneakers or opened coats in winter. Even the majority off cute boots you see in theses types of videos are not appropriate for our weather, that is, if you dont want to freeze your toes off. The only skin peaking outside for months is my face and even that sometimes gets almost all covered up depending on the weather. I have seen fashion influencers suggest putting thermal pants under you pants, but that is not realistic for going to work. Thank you for the great content, even if I can’t apply it most of the year, it is still inspirational!
I use to live in Canada so I do know what you mean. Simply make sure your coat, shoes, gloves and hat co-ordinate and are of substantial quality that you can wear 'normal' clothes underneath. I've just got back skiing and all I needed in the minus 12 weather (I know you guys can get a lot lower than that though!) is one merino wool base layer because my jacket was good to begin with. Start with the jacket and organise your outfit around it - the jacket should be the starting point, not the after thought.
I have finished your personal styling course, and I enjoy watching your videos. My husband (who is a very sharp dresser) said he has noticed that my outfits have really improved! What I like about your videos, are the tips that go with the outfits; the do’s and the don’t s. So videos like these are very helpful. I have lots of clothes, I just couldn’t figure out how to put them together. I will keep watching and keep learning. So, thank you! PS - I too, am a dog walker, and even my dog walking outfits have improved!

I’ve been following for a year and you have absolutely changed my life and my approach to shopping. I live in Colorado so the attire is much more casual here, although I wish people dressed up a bit more. I now shop of quality pieces more neutrals and have a variety of neutral shoes. So much easier to put together outfits.

It’s actually incredibly labour intensive and took twice as long to edit and voice over!!! Which is a shame but we’re working on ways to improve the process.

Love your videos and have shared with my friends. I have "trouble" with neutral basics due to that I look better in cool muted colors (Mid Toned Summer in the House of Color system). Greys and taupes are much harder to find than camel and cream but I keep looking! Thanks again.
I really enjoyed your video and tips. Love the light neutral colours. I always dress in dark colours as the light clothes get dirty and stained so easily. My dog and cat unfortunately always leave their traces on me. I love the look though ❤

I'm wearing my usual navy/navy combo so your tip on pairing lighter colors to break up the monotony is one for me! Following your strategies, I now have a functional, balanced wardrobe with neutrals, varied necklines, pants, cardigans. It's time for me to lovingly donate the most gently worn pieces and I am tossing things that are not worthy of donations. This was really useful, particularly the angular verses rounded shapes. I have just booked tickets to the Hay Literary Festival in May and now obsessed with looking my best while basically in a field in Wales! This gives me some layering ideas, navy is by base colour but need to add some neutral pieces to make it pop I think
Just discovered this channel and am borderline OBSESSED! lol. One of my goals this year is to figure out how to style my body and build a capsule wardrobe. I’m going through my closet and trying to be really diligent about getting rid of anything that doesn’t work for my body (I’m a “pear” shape with small upper and big bum and thighs. I also have a bit of a tummy so lots of a pain points). One thing I’m struggling with is how to broaden the shoulder area to balance my bottom half aside from using shoulder pads. I don’t love shoulder pads but can obviously see the benefit. What about tops that don’t have them or in the summer if I want to wear sleeveless tops or dresses? Thanks!!
Boot cuts would help balance your proportions. I would avoid cardigans as they will tend to cling. V-necks, jewelry, scarves and prints will tend to draw attention to your upper half, which is what you want.
